"Do you like my nose ring?", said the girl, while looking at herself in the round mirror above the counter.
"What?" I asked
"Do you like my nose ring?", she said again smiling, pointing to her nose.
"Yes, it looks cute".
She gave herself another good look in the mirror, beamed another smile at me, and left the shop, happy about her new nose ring.
How did I end up in this body jewelry, lingerie, watch repair, tattoo, pawn broker shop on Fulton?
I needed a new watch battery, and I stopped at the first shop with a "Watch batteries" sign I could find on Nostrand. Mr. Roman, the owner of Papunus Jewelry[1], didn't have the battery I needed, but told me to go to the shop near Dunkin Donuts, around the corner, and tell the Chinese lady that Mr. Roman sent me. "She will give you a good price!", he said.
I ended up buying 3 batteries at Dylan Jewelry. At $4 each. I am not sure this is a good price for a watch battery, but sure the fun was worth the price of this little adventure through the jewelry shops of Bed-Stuy.
