The original footprint of the kitchen was not functional and our original designer sat down and listened to what worked and didn't. The end result reflected just that. Keeping in mind that we decided to start this remodel during the pandemic, we had to manage our expectations when it came to timelines and availability of materials. The supply chain issues were no joke. We ran into that with our first choice of flooring, as well as the delivery dates for our new appliances - none of which rested on FA. In fact, we are much, much happier with our second choice flooring, so that worked out! We absolutely loved working with Rocky. He was an amazing resource and someone we counted on as first timers. This project wasn't without issues. We were looking for a running timeline and could never quite get one. We created our own punch-list and shared it at regular intervals to ensure that nothing fell through the proverbial cracks. Towards the end of the project, we experienced a blackout in communication, where emails, calls and texts to our POC went unanswered. We were understandably frustrated, but were eventually able to get our punch list items resolved. We learned plenty of lessons from this experience and know what to expect the next time. What matters most is that we are happy with the end result. Our kitchen is now an amazing space that brings us a lot of joy every single time.

The subcontractors were dependable, professional, competent , friendly, and hard working. John R

Overall, I think Executive Improvements did a good job. I was happy with the final outcome of the…read moreproject in terms of functionality and look. Pros: - PM Jonathan was very communicative and easy to work with - Final work quality was overall good with no major functional issues - Speed to start and finish the project was very fast - Ease of working through Executive Improvements via Home Depot Cons: - Design process was arduous, requiring two very lengthy screenshare phone calls that I would've preferred be more turnkey or asynchronous - Lots of points of contact involved from the initial estimator, to the designer, to the PM, to the day-to-day crew chief - On the ground team did not speak English and was difficult to communicate preferences to without going through the PM - Minor flaws with fixtures were not noticed by the onsite crew and required followup; even upon replacement the materials from the supplier were not totally free of deficiencies, which is more of a supplier issue but still somewhat frustrating - Cost was competitive but seemed like more efficiencies in cost could be found; for example, there were several days where one of the crew members spent most of the day on his cell phone sitting in the corner of the room, and there were also a lot of leftover materials - Team did not put up dust protection, which led to a LOT of construction dust throughout my home - Team could have done a better job with cleaning up debris and dust from my garage and driveway

My dad suffered a massive stroke in Oct. and spent 3 weeks in rehab. We needed to find a company who could give my dad an accessible living area on the bottom floor of his 2 story house. Ryan and his crew turned a SMALL I mean tiny bathroom (the door was only 22 inch wide!) into a bathroom that not only looks bigger but somehow has more space, and looks like it should be in a magazine! They had creative ideas of how to make it work for my dad. My mom wanted CHEAP. (I wanted safe). EI delivered on all aspects. Well, they weren't cheap- it was a big job. BUT they totally worked with my mom and stayed in the budget she needed. My dad's bathroom is amazing. The attention to detail in the tile work was nothing short of stellar! The paint job in the bedroom and bathroom also meticulous and flawless. The guys from EI did a bunch of other odd jobs around the house for my mom including installing stair rails, replacing faucets and mounting tvs. They were so great to work with! Even if there was an issue that came up they were easy to talk to about it and they resolved it quickly. Example: Ryan my mom hates the kitchen faucet. ryan: ok no problem we will get a different on. That's how easy it was. I trusted them in my parents house and with my parents house!

Do NOT hire Graves Design. What should have taken 3 months took over a year! From start to finish…read morethere was nothing but problems. We signed a contract in August and went to his show room on Traford Ln. in Springfield which had recently been updated with some beautiful cabinets. His assistant drew up plans for us and we chose cabinets. The drawings were sent to us and upon review, I noticed several discrepancies in measurements. I brought these to the attention of the team and they made some changes, but I would later find out not all issues were remedied. Come October we inquired when the cabinets would arrive and to our surprise it sounded like they hadn't even been ordered. After all that, the cabinets still arrived in the wrong sizes. This set us back several more months as we ended up having to reorder several. On top of that, no trim was ordered. There were no kickplates, island trim or anything for moulding. Once the second order arrived, there were still problems with the island cabinets being too tall on one side. Doug suggested we just rig them and make the island an inch taller than the rest of the kitchen. I said absolutely not. I then sat up for hours one evening trying to think of ways to make it work so we didn't have to wait yet another few months for more cabinets. I came up with a plan and we ended up doing a two level island with a bar on one side to accommodate stools. As a customer, I should never have had to be this involved in correcting the contractor's constant mistakes. Along with this, throughout the process Doug was hard to get ahold of and would never come to the home to check on things unless I insisted he did. Even then, he came once or twice over the course of 3-4 months of construction. Working with all of his subcontractors was ok, but they were not well coordinated. For instance, the countertop company showed up before the cabinets were installed. They said Doug told them that the kitchen was ready with cabinets. They came from a long ways away, so they measured what they thought would work. Of course they were wrong and we had to have new countertops cut adding more time to the process. Beyond this, we had wood flooring in our living room that came up to our kitchen tile. I told the contractors countless times we only had a few pieces of wood to replace what they might need to move, so they should be extra carful to keep anything they could. On the day they removed flooring, a large part of the wood floors were removed without care. In the end we waited another month for them to go find something similar and make it right. As the tile flooring went in, it was fine, but within a few weeks the grout started to crumble. After speaking with Doug and his assistants several times, we finally got one of his contractors to fix it. Unfortunately several months later grout started breaking out again and after months of trying to contact Doug again, we are still without a reply.

Fairfax County missed it as well but I already knew they were useless. So if you want to hire a company and roll the dice that you pass final inspection this is your company.
