Finally got to try this place out! I'm a huge Hong Kong milk tea person and I was so excited to try this place out. Got to try original hong kong milk tea and grape milk tea- one of their special drinks, hong kong milk tea was ok, and boba was a bit hard. I liked grape milk tea better.
I have been a customer of Duplex for quite a few years now, and over the years I have been satisfied with my experience here. The drink menu is always expanding, and has unique options in my opinion. Compared to other boba spots in the Valley, I really enjoy the Hong Kong-inspired menu and the dedication to sharing that culture through the dessert options. I typically order the HK-style milk tea with boba, but this time I was feeling a fruit tea so I went for the green grape lemon tea with boba and I was VERY impressed! The grape flavor was very fresh, and not like American artificial grape. It is very similar to those korean muscat grape candies/jellies, which was honestly exactly what I was looking for! The crystal boba was a nice bounciness and paired delightfully with the drink. All my friends enjoyed their boba drinks as well. I will definitely be back for this specific drink, or to try their other fun options!!
Was in the mood for a boba drinks and this spot was nearby. Just a few other people there on a weekday afternoon and I ordered the Hong Kong style milk tea with honey boba, less ice and half sugar level. It was prepared pretty quickly in a few minutes and customer service was friendly. I should've heeded the warning from my boba sistah's review that they don't seal their lids and that my drink would spill (which it did). The drink was just okay. The tea tasted watered down and the boba texture was inconsistent with there being a few tougher balls. Overall an okay experience here but wouldn't rush back.
I wanted something sweet and I love trying new Boba places because they do offer different flavors and varieties of what's already out there. I have to admit I don't think i would have felt comfortable hanging here I think I'm too old for this place ha ha. It is a cute little cage with lots of tables where you can sit and enjoy. Their Donuts are Mochidonuts so the consistency is a little different. They are not light and fluffy throughout.... they are light with the initial bite then have the mochi chewy denser consistency.. you have to try it. It's not bad it's just different. But the sweetness level was spot on for this sugar addict!! The staff was friendly and u enjoyed watching them work their magic in the kitchen area.
I love this place. Duplex Boba Tea Station in Tempe is way more than just a regular boba shop. Their drink menu is HUGE. They have all the classics like Hong Kong milk tea, jasmine milk tea, taro, matcha, etc., but they also have some really unique options like chestnut milk tea with cream and pecans and sweet fermented-rice osmanthus milk tea. If you like fruity drinks, they have lychee strawberry oolong, white peach oolong, passionfruit blends, and even sparkling lemonades. I also love that you can adjust the sugar and ice levels so it's not overly sweet. The desserts are honestly one of my favorite parts. They have so many cheesecake flavors -- matcha, cookies & cream, banana with pistachio, original, and even yuzu. They also carry Japanese jiggly cheesecake, sweet coconut buns, and the Dubai chocolate cup that's been trending. But what really makes this place fun is the snack section. They have imported chips and candy (Lay's flavors and KitKats you don't normally see here), bottled Asian drinks in the fridge, and cute little toys and trinkets around the shop. It feels like a mini snack market inside a boba café. It's always fun to go in because there's something new to try every time. Definitely recommend if you're in Tempe and want something different from the typical boba spot.
Just a couple stores down from Kung Fu Noodles, you will find this un expecting boba tea place. Name derived from owners that came from China where one lived in the north and the owner from the south thus called duplex. This unassuming shop makes excellent mango drinks with coconut milk on top: the drink tasted on so real and yummy. What a treat! Great drinks to take on the go!
If you want a cool drink for a summer day this may be the place. It is a tradition boba tea place. They don't have fancy boba drinks like other places in the valley. They do have a lot of tea options to choose from. In my opinion this place is quite expensive for what you get. It won't be my first place to choose when I'm craving boba, but it is close by for me. I recommend trying it in case it's your cup of tea. ENJOY!
One of my favorite milk tea places! I like the jasmine milk tea 75% sugar. It has a decently strong tea flavor + nice creaminess to it. Also has two convenient machines that you can place your order with w/o having to talk to anyone haha . Drinks come out pretty fast too.
this was the worst boba experience in az thus far for me, the "brown sugar" boba just tasted like normal boba, idk where the drink went wrong but the whipped coffee drink tasted like burnt coffee beans i was very disappointed, my boyfriend got the oreo boba and it just tasted like cereal milk when you let it set for a while and then gets soggy, we waited a long time for our drinks too, 12 mins for 2 drinks, i've never had that happen to me before, needless to say i wouldn't come back
We were craving boba today and wanted to come back to duplex tea. I got the osmanthus tea with cheese foam and boba. I liked the flavor and the sweetness level I chose. The amount of boba in the drink is nice too. The only downsides were the menu said +$0.50 for the cheese foam but the receipt showed $1.50 my drink ended up being $8.50 which is a lot. I wasn't expecting that. This is the most expensive cheese foam I've had anywhere so far. The other issue was some of the boba pearls in mine and my boyfriend's drink were hard. I like supporting local and I hope next time is better and the menu prices are updated.
I'm not sure how much inflation has increased in Phoenix since COVID, but I refuse to believe paying $10 for a milk tea is the norm. Yes, I ordered a drink on the expensive side, but with an average SMALL drink being $6.00+, I do not think this place is worth going to. I ordered the chestnut milk tea with cream and pecan. Starting price for a SMALL was 7.75. Add the size up(0.75), boba (0.75), and no ice (0.50) options and you get basically a $10 drink. Oh yeah, they also charge extra for sugar, like what???? And the drink was just a basic black milk tea with cream and pecan on top and roasted chestnuts inside. The drink was just mediocre at best, especially given the premium price. Although I shared a drink with my gf, we didn't finish it because we didn't think it was that good. Their boba is just okay, with it having a decent chew but lacking overall flavor. They weren't very sweet, and I would not recommend adding their boba to your drinks. The service is okay at best; the lady at the front seemed like she couldn't wait to go home. Although the interior is nice and reminiscent of HK/China, I honestly cannot justify any reason to drop double digits on a boba milk tea, when there are so many other places in Phoenix that offer the same quality drinks at a fraction of the price.
I got the White Peach Oolong Tea. I was impressed that the drink had real ripe white peach chunks! The drink itself honestly just tasted like fresh juice. -2 stars for the expensive prices and the light tea flavor. The oolong wasn't very strong and $8 for a drink is crazy!! They also put a lot of ice despite me asking for 25%.
Pro-tip: They don't actually serve everything on the menu. Highlights: I really like the ambience because it resembles Hong Kong cafés. They had a really extensive drink list. Lowlights: The menu is confusing as they don't offer everything they have a picture of. The service is really slow especially for the egg waffle - even though there were only two other tables when we were there the waffle came out well after the drinks.
Reviews are generally positive. Many highlight the creative drink menu, authentic milk tea, and cozy retro ambiance.

Delicious jasmine milk tea with a strong tea flavor!! Not super milky but just right, how I like it. Regular sized cups are smaller than other boba places but I believe the price is adjusted for that. Came out to $4.86 whereas other places are $5-6 these days. Definitely want to return to try their other drinks and desserts! Can get busy and a bit slow to get your drink but worth the wait. Big space with board games! read more

Took kinda long to make the drinks...and the drinks tasted too milky for my liking personally. There were a lot of tables inside but not aesthetic or Instagrammable in my opinion. read more

This is a great place to get some new kind of Boba. They have a good variety of different teas with different flavors. I've never tried Boba like this before. It was fresh and soft. The tea had a good flavor not too strong, not too sweet. There is white parking out front, so that wouldn't be an issue whenever you're driving by. You can just stop parking. Service was very fast and helpful. If you probably are trying to get a healthier side of teas. I think that is definitely an option. read more

Very friendly and enthusiastic staff. We were not sure what to order, so they walked us through a few suggestions. We really appreciated how nice and clean the place was as well. Lots of delicious options. Another cool thing is that you can adjust your sweetness and ice level on the drinks. We will be back for more! We had the Hong Kong Style Milk Tea with brûlée!! Yummm!!! read more

In an Arizona with a million boba shops, duplex stands out. The quality is Hong Kong style. You can taste the homemade flavor, from the strawberry jam. The coconut shake is a whole young coconut! They have ovaltine shakes! Plus CROFFLES! They're that spot! read more

I am a sucker for boba tea. We saw this place a couple months ago on our way elsewhere & after learning they had been open for 1.5 yrs we were both thinking "how did we not know about this place?!" We have been back a few times since and every time the staff has been very courteous and patient as we drool over the menu items, trying to decide which drink to try next. Every time one of them has always asked "is it good?" and they always make sure one of them says goodbye as we walk out the door. We stopped in today and ordered different items than previous visits; both of us were very happy with the items. The wait was longer than normal but they had a pretty good crowd going - and quite a few carry-out orders. I enjoy that their menu is so diverse from other boba places we have been to. I have never seen or heard of their Croffle before, and their bowls are so damn good. A couple weeks ago I had the coconut milk mixed taro bowl and it was an excellent cold meal for the hot day. Today I opted for the heavy milk oat bowl. Two bowls down, one more to try. We are totally returning numerous times to Duplex - we have to work through all of their menu items. LOL! read more
This place is sooo good! It's the best one in Arizona and closest to the ones I would frequent in Taiwan. They have so many toppings, including taro balls! If you love boba, try taro balls. They're even better, trust me! read more
If u're indecisive like me, get the fresh mango coconut!!! Talk about winning on a 1st try!!! It's mango-ey coconutty just right sweetness gives u a refreshing jolt after a long hard day of work! If u're thinking about adding a topping, don't do i! It comes with a jelly like topping (tastes like aloe, said the hub) that pairs perfectly with the drink!! U deserve a refreshing jolt! Go get it here & give them ur support!!! read more
Duplex is the newest addition to the Valley milk tea scene... and it's a good one! We ordered both the Hong Kong Style Milk Tea and the Mango Coconut. My wife was very happy with the Mango Coconut... and I tried it and it is AMAZING! My milk tea was very good too - just needed a little extra sugar for my sweet tooth! I could be totally wrong about this, but I think the duplex name comes from there being two sides with different looks and feels to them... but it's a cool vibe and seems like a great place to chill with friends or study/work! I'm a fan and will definitely be back! *****FIVE STARS***** read more

With all of the new Asian tea/boba spots opening up around the valley and especially Tempe, I was intrigued to see a new Hong Kong style milk tea business. I grew up visiting Hong Kong a lot since I have family there, and the flavors of the lemon ice tea and HK milk tea here are very authentic! The iced lemon tea was refreshing and had a perfect balance of tea/lemon/sugar. The milk tea had that nostalgic robust malty tea flavor unique to HK, and it was the perfect sweetness. Both drinks transported me back to Asia, and I can't wait to try all of the other drinks like Ovaltine (very popular in HK), and some of their street food type snacks. Definitely will be adding this place to my regular lineup of boba tea shops! read more

Went there today for the first time and got their HK Milk Tea with boba and loved it! I've been looking for a good milk tea w/boba in Tempe since moving back from California. I can't say I'm an expert on HK-style cafes and the sort, but I can say that I've had a lot of milk tea in my 21 years of life. I ordered the HK-style Large Milk Tea with tapioca boba and the Sparkling Rose Lemonade (also large), and both had 100% sweetness. It didn't take too long to get the items at all, I would say that it only took like 7 minutes (also keep in mind that there are only two people working there. It felt very homey). I feel like a lot of asian people understand where I'm coming from when I say that an asian person saying "Not too sweet" is a big compliment (cause we freaking hate things that are too sugary). If you come to this place, please get 100% sweetness, because it's just the right amount. As my mother would say, it's "good, not too sweet." The tea flavor in the milk tea was very prominent, and I could really taste the rose in the lemonade :D !! I look forward to coming here again. read more

I ordered a dessert. Expecting it to at least some ice snow but it turns out to be all soupy. I told the lady that's not what I expect and ask if I could get a different drink and she out right said no. I post both the advertised photo and the actual photo of the dish for your reference. read more

I'm not usually one to write reviews, but my experience at Duplex was too sweet not to share. I had read some other reviews about the Hong Kong style milk tea and decided to give it a go! Since it was my first try, the man working the counter let me taste some to make sure I would like it which I found very caring and superb compared to service I've experienced at other places. The milk tea was delicious- I ordered mine 75% sugar with brown sugar boba and cannot recommend it enough. I will definitely be back with friends to try their free board games as well! read more
Some of the best boba/ tea i have had in a long time. We got the matcha latte with boba and then a matcha oreo latte (it had pudding, cheese foam). typically wouldn't like something like the latter drink but it was heavenly. will be back again!! read more
