I love this place. Duplex Boba Tea Station in Tempe is way more than just a regular boba shop. Their drink menu is HUGE. They have all the classics like Hong Kong milk tea, jasmine milk tea, taro, matcha, etc., but they also have some really unique options like chestnut milk tea with cream and pecans and sweet fermented-rice osmanthus milk tea. If you like fruity drinks, they have lychee strawberry oolong, white peach oolong, passionfruit blends, and even sparkling lemonades. I also love that you can adjust the sugar and ice levels so it's not overly sweet. The desserts are honestly one of my favorite parts. They have so many cheesecake flavors -- matcha, cookies & cream, banana with pistachio, original, and even yuzu. They also carry Japanese jiggly cheesecake, sweet coconut buns, and the Dubai chocolate cup that's been trending. But what really makes this place fun is the snack section. They have imported chips and candy (Lay's flavors and KitKats you don't normally see here), bottled Asian drinks in the fridge, and cute little toys and trinkets around the shop. It feels like a mini snack market inside a boba café. It's always fun to go in because there's something new to try every time. Even in the best the market is still crazy but there was no wait at all and the girl working was quick to prepare my drink! I got a coconut water matcha which was good for a hot August morning! This shop is close to my work, so I decided to give it a try, but I ended up pretty disappointed. I ordered the Mashed Real Taro & Oat with Fresh Milk, and unfortunately it just wasn't good. I've had taro fresh milk at plenty of other boba spots, and this didn't come close to what I expected. The drink tasted like exactly what it looked like: mashed taro and oats with plain gallon milk poured over it. You might think that I asked for it because that's what the drink is called, but there was literally no flavor at all, so it felt like I was just drinking milk with some crushed taro mixed in. I usually love taro drinks, but this one really missed the mark. There's usually some flavor to the taro but this was like goo. I have been going since 2021/22 and I always think about the bubbly worker who recommended getting the hong kong style tea with sea salt foam and boba. It's a guilty pleasure! I have been a customer of Duplex for quite a few years now, and over the years I have been satisfied with my experience here. The drink menu is always expanding, and has unique options in my opinion. Compared to other boba spots in the Valley, I really enjoy the Hong Kong-inspired menu and the dedication to sharing that culture through the dessert options. I typically order the HK-style milk tea with boba, but this time I was feeling a fruit tea so I went for the green grape lemon tea with boba and I was VERY impressed! The grape flavor was very fresh, and not like American artificial grape. It is very similar to those korean muscat grape candies/jellies, which was honestly exactly what I was looking for! The crystal boba was a nice bounciness and paired delightfully with the drink. All my friends enjoyed their boba drinks as well. Duplex Boba Tea Station offers a lot of fun drinks that other boba shops do not. It's always a treat for my partner and I to go after getting some Old Town Taste next door. Service is pretty lukewarm. You won't necessarily feel welcomed, but you won't be antagonized either. They have a digital kiosk labeled with "for introverts," which I think is super funny. It's even located further away from the cashier. We often use the kiosk because we are introverts and it's a little easier to see all of the drinks and customize. Sweetness levels here lean towards not as sweet, which is perfect for me! I've personally enjoyed the milk tea type drinks here, but fruit teas can be hit or miss depending on your tastes. It's usually clean inside with a good amount of seating, but I don't typically see people hanging out here. read more

I have to admit I don't think i would have felt comfortable hanging here I think I'm too old for this place ha ha. It is a cute little cage with lots of tables where you can sit and enjoy. Their Donuts are Mochidonuts so the consistency is a little different. They are not light and fluffy throughout.... they are light with the initial bite then have the mochi chewy denser consistency.. you have to try it. It's not bad it's just different. Just a few other people there on a weekday afternoon and I ordered the Hong Kong style milk tea with honey boba, less ice and half sugar level. It was prepared pretty quickly in a few minutes and customer service was friendly. I should've heeded the warning from my boba sistah's review that they don't seal their lids and that my drink would spill (which it did). The drink was just okay. If you want a cool drink for a summer day this may be the place. It is a tradition boba tea place. They don't have fancy boba drinks like other places in the valley. They do have a lot of tea options to choose from. In my opinion this place is quite expensive for what you get. It won't be my first place to choose when I'm craving boba, but it is close by for me. I've been wanting to try this place out, but unfortunately, I left with disappointment. We walked in, the employees were on the phone and didn't even bother to greet us. That was not a great first impression. We ordered our drinks at the kiosk and waited more than 10 minutes to get our drinks. The employee just put our drinks on the counter, didn't acknowledge us at all. The drinks were watered down and didn't taste like anything. I don't like the ambiance at all, not very pleasant. We were craving boba today and wanted to come back to duplex tea. I got the osmanthus tea with cheese foam and boba. I liked the flavor and the sweetness level I chose. The amount of boba in the drink is nice too. The only downsides were the menu said +$0.50 for the cheese foam but the receipt showed $1.50 my drink ended up being $8.50 which is a lot. I wasn't expecting that. This is the most expensive cheese foam I've had anywhere so far. The other issue was some of the boba pearls in mine and my boyfriend's drink were hard. Starting price for a SMALL was 7.75. Add the size up(0.75), boba (0.75), and no ice (0.50) options and you get basically a $10 drink. Oh yeah, they also charge extra for sugar, like what???? And the drink was just a basic black milk tea with cream and pecan on top and roasted chestnuts inside. The drink was just mediocre at best, especially given the premium price. Although I shared a drink with my gf, we didn't finish it because we didn't think it was that good. Their boba is just okay, with it having a decent chew but lacking overall flavor. They weren't very sweet, and I would not recommend adding their boba to your drinks. The service is okay at best; the lady at the front seemed like she couldn't wait to go home. Although the interior is nice and reminiscent of HK/China, I honestly cannot justify any reason to drop double digits on a boba milk tea, when there are so many other places in Phoenix that offer the same quality drinks at a fraction of the price. read more

We were visiting from out-of-town and were craving cold desserts. We ordered the following: Fresh Mango Coconut Drink - I am lactose-intolerant so I requested to have this dairy-free; apparently, the coconut creme that tops this drink is mixed with dairy. As such, the employee omitted the coconut crème portion. However, the mango portion tasted like actual puréed mango and the aloe vero chunks complimented the mango pretty well. I'm sure it would have tasted better with the coconut crème. I give this a 4.5/5 stars. Oreo Brûlée Matcha - My husband ordered this without making any alterations. He said the Oreo crumbles mixed in with the matcha tasted so good and that it added a nice touch to the drink. He gives this a 5/5 stars. Honey Butter Croffle - This one took the longest to make but my husband loved it. They put a small piece of butter and one scoop of vanilla ice cream atop the warm Croffle. Texture was like biting into a semi-crunchy waffle with a moist interior. I give this a 4/5 stars. Coconut Milk Mixed Taro Ball Bowl - Unfortunately, they are unable to make this a dairy-free version as milk is mixed in with coconut milk, so I just had the toppings and ate small sips of the coconut slush. The toppings were chewy and wholesome, though I wish they put more inside the bowl. I would give this a 3/5 stars. The employee was kind enough to make me a free iced lemon tea for me since they couldn't give me a dairy-free option of the Taro Ball Bowl after I had ordered it. It was very sweet of her. Hopefully they can add more dairy-free options for desserts in the future or at least be able to substitute some of the ingredients in case some customers request it. read more

We were looking for another boba spot and found this place. There was nobody here when we arrived around 7:30pm. The interior was interesting since half of it was darker and resembled what could pass for a downtown street in Hong Kong while the other side was pretty bright. The menu had a lot of drinks that sounded good to me. We ordered the large Hong Kong Style Milk Tea with boba ($5) and the large Jasmine Milk Tea with boba ($4.75). The workers made the drinks fairly quick so we didn't really wait a long time. The Hong Kong Style Milk Tea was delicious and I believe was the only one that I was aware of that had this kind of style milk tea. The boba was also soft and chewy. The Jasmine Milk Tea was slightly on the thicker side but tasted good to me as well. I would recommend either one of those drinks. We came back a few other times and tried other drinks. We wandered into Duplex one afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by the cute interior and the scale (yes, the kind you weigh yourself on!!) in the corner LOL. The kiwi drink was freshly made and as such, took ~5-10 minutes to make although ours was the only order. My jasmine green tea with cheese foam was good and had a good, strong tea flavor. I asked bf to pick up a HK Milk Tea Coffee (with cheese foam) as I read it was similar to a Cafe Su Da which I LOVE. Bf ordered a milk tea with boba. The little eye stickers on my cup were a cute touch. I was very disappointed with the milk tea coffee- it was very diluted and had neither a strong tea nor coffee taste. Not resembling a cafe su da at all. Bf's milk tea tasted just as diluted as mine. I'm hoping it was a fluke as most Yelpers report the tea is strong. I was expecting Duplex to suplex me. After seeing both Linda W.'s and Karen W.'s check-ins, I practically hauled ass down to Duplex on Halloween night last year. I'm so backlogged with my reviews! Eeks! But a Hong Kong style cafe? Yaaas! That's exactly what Arizona needed! I got a HK Milk Tea with boba, HK Lemon Tea, and an egg puff. While I went in with no expectation, I was generally pleased with my drinks and the egg puff was cooked pretty nicely (still custardy in the middle). I dig the Cantonese music that they play but was thrown by the Mandarin-speaking staff. I also like how the inside is all vintage Hong Kong decor with signs and trolley cars. Very cute. read more

I went to Duplex because I saw those egg puff/waffle items in someone's review and wanted to try them. Unfortunately the machine was broken so they weren't able to make any! This location seems very brand new. They don't have a permanent outdoor sign, only a banner up. The inside is nice and large. It looks like the decor is not finished because they have some signs and things that still need to be hung. When it's finished I think it will be a nice spot to hang out and there is wi-fi available. The milk tea was very strong, I am used to a weaker milk tea. If you are looking for a caffeine jolt, this is a good option! The boba was nice and chewy and soft. It tasted freshly made. I was a little sad there were not more dairy-free items. The only drinks I could order were fruit teas because the coconut shake and mango shake contain dairy. The pineapple tea was tasty but i wish there had been less pulp and foam inside my cup because I wasn't able to drink that stuff with the straw. After looking at the menu posted on the door though I knew I had to try it! The mango coconut and HK milk tea are so good. The mango drink is made with fresh fruit and is a wonderful tropical drink. The HK milk tea has a great balance of tea, milk and I love how it is not super sweet. For me this allows the robust flavor of the tea to stand out. I wasn't as impressed with the salty lemon tea drink. It's basically chopped up preserved lemon in 7-Up. The preserved lemon itself tasted good but for me it needed a touch more sweetness and adding a bit more sweetener at home made it better tasting for me. Service has been friendly and the staff speak both English and Mandarin. *Downgraded from 4.5 to 4 due to lack of heat sealed lids and cup holders that easily topple over. It might be hard to spot at night since it only has a banner sign. It's next to Old Town Taste same plaza as Burger King. I was impressed to see a true HK-style drinks and street snacks place. They just opened in October. A journey back in time with cute vintage Hong Kong decors and plenty of open tables/booths. I ordered a small coconut and fresh mango. This drink was so refreshing and filled my tummy. They didn't have the noodles ready yet so settled with one squid ball and the egg puffs. It is so yum when the egg puffs are hot and crispy. I came back the following week and tried the HK Coffee. It was perfectly balanced and not too sweet.
