Poutine!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, so this wasn't the BEST I ever had but I still really enjoyed the poutine they served here. Let's put it this way, I liked it enough that I went two days in a row. That's also because I really liked their smoked meat sandwich platter ... which was just awesome. The meat was good and I actually enjoyed this more than Schwartz's. Yeah yeah call me crazy but I felt the meat here was more tender and juicy. We headed to Dunns on a Sunday night because we heard it was a poppin place. It was about 9pm and only a few people were there. It felt empty and it sounded like the chef was screaming at an employee. I give it high marks though because the signature Poutine was insanely good and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. Stopped by here with a party of five to soak up some excess booze. Open 24 hours, this place was surprisingly quiet for a Friday late night, as we were easily able to get a booth. Wasn't looking for anything large, settling on the plate of Chicken Wings (8 for $9). Wings are fried well though not slathered with any sauce; instead you choose one to the side (decided on the sweet & spicy). Okay flavor overall, and the side of carrots/lettuce are nominal. Thought this was a great place for no frills Montreal / Canadian food. This place is popular enough but without the insanity of lines. We stopped by early in the afternoon on a weekend and were seated immediately. I got their reuben smoked meat sandwich and subbed out the fries for poutine (+$4), which was 100% worth it. At this point in my trip, I still haven't had any poutine. I probably should have gone with the la petite sandwich because I could only finish about 3/4 of my meal. Ok, don't sleep on this place here me out. When you walk in, this place feels like a chain (I know there are 3 locations but I'm talking like a major chain) but some of the food here is pretty darn good, especially for being open 24 hours. For instance, get a bowl of smoked meat poutine and what you get is a red bowl that is the biggest frickin portion of poutine you ever saw. Their smoked meat Rueben? Pretty great. The full dressed hotdog? I'd get it again. The French Onion soup was even decent. Some of the appetizers are meh, but overall this place is somewhere you should check out of your visiting. Great late night spot to go to! Hubby & I came here at 10pm. Luckily it was walking distance from our hotel (Hotel Bonevature), took us less than 10 minutes to get here. Once inside, we got seated fairly quickly. I also think it wasn't too busy since we came on a weekday night (Wednesday). The booths have cute little individual coat hangers you can use too! I ordered the French Onion Soup & Sausage Poutine. Hubby ordered the Smoked Meat Sandwich & Richard's Red Ale. The server was super nice & had asked if I want the soup to come out first, or to have all the food come out at the same time. I told him we wanted it all at on once. So all our food came out pretty quick, about 15 minutes or so. My favorite hands down was the French Onion Soup!! The cheese melted was on point & I absolutely loved the broth. I practically picked up the bowl to drink it, lol. The Poutine was good too, but personally I like the regular Poutine more (just cheese & gravy). Covid sucked... closing the boarder to Canada or making it hard with tests left me Dunns free for a few years. I was pleasantly impressed they were exactly the same when I was there last weekend. First place we went after hitting the dispensary. . The smoked meat is just so amazing... even better than a brisket sandwich from down south... unless they put coleslaw on it and then in the running against Dunn's. After drinks at Nhau bar, we were really craving late night eats, so we made our way to Dunn's for some smoked meat poutine. When you walk in, it's very diner-like and their menu looks like something out of Applebee's or TGIF. We really wanted La Banquiste or Poutineville, but it was way too far from our airbnb and Dunn's is famous for their smoked meat, so why not kill two birds? We got the smoked meat poutine and it came out SO FAST. The fries were fresh and crispy.. for about 1 minute. It's served in a big bowl topped with gravy and smoked meat. I think the fries would preserve more crispiness if it was served in a plate, more spread out. But who knows, I'm no poutine expert. Maybe it's supposed to be served like this. By the 5 minute mark, it was all just very soggy and not that enjoyable. But it was a huge amount of food! and the meat was not bad. We are in town for the NAIDC and were looking to try something local and not a chain type place, as well as something close to our hotel. The brisket was to die for. Very tender and well seasoned. Husband had one of the poutine dishes, very good mixture of ingredients and flavors. We tend to look for places where it's mostly locals and loads of regular customers , as those are the types of places we prefer to go to at home. The poutine selection was endless but I decided to get their famous poutine. The poutine came in a pretty big bowl with melted cheese and Montreal smoked meat sprinkled on top. I wish the fries were a bit crispier but this is one of those places where the cheese curds are actually melted. The flavor of the gravy was good but was slightly saltier than I expected. It was still very good though! To finish off the night, I tried their chocolate cake and strawberry cheesecake dessert. Both of them were good and I had a tough time deciding which was better. Being it was a bar, the staff were pretty laid back and I had to wave then over to take our orders. The staff were very friendly though. I shared my poutine and dessert with my girlfriend as there was no way I could finish by myself. For the amount of food they gave, 20ish bucks was a steal! In conclusion, I have other poutine places to try but they definitely make a mean poutine. Also the fact that it is open 24 hours you can sate your poutine desires at any time. Checked out this place on the 13th, I had the chicken honey mustard salad without chicken lol but it was actually soooo good! The amount of "toppings" added to the salad was awesome - most restaurant just give mostly lettuce and it's disappointing. Stopped by on a recent trip to Montreal when I was craving a meal of smoked Montreal meat with a black cherry Coke. I ordered a small combo and upgraded my fries for poutine which cost an additional $4. The small combo is a sandwich with white bread and smoked meat, with side of coleslaw, pickle. Both the smoked meat and poutine were served steaming hot. I could only finish maybe a third of the poutine but managed to finish everything else! I was given 2 choices for the black cherry Coke, either can of Cott or on tap. The food is standard as Dunn's has now become a chain at multiple locations including Toronto. I arrived around 6:30pm and throughout the evening there were a steady stream of customers. So the good elements are the excellent service, good organization and tasty coleslaw. I like the space and the vibe. The smoked meat itself was a let-down, its bland and below average. It's not half as good as Darcy McGees in Ottawa. So I wouldn't come back here again, I had high expectations for the smoked meat and I found it unappealing and tasteless. Great place for delicious food! I visited for 1 night from Toronto and chose the hotel down the street in order to visit this place. Arrived extremely late... at 3am.. and luckily Dunn's famous was a 3 min walk and open. I eat Montreal smoked beef ALL THE TIME and was extremely excited to try it IN Montreal! I tried the Dunn's famous smoked meat sandwich (asked without mustard but they put it in anyway... so that wasn't good.!). The smoked meat was UNBELIEVABLY DELICIOUS! So juicy, tender, hot and nicely marinated. With it i ordered the Dunn's famous poutine . It was a huge Poutine with the perfect cheese curds and the same delicious smoked meat on top. Yumm!! If you are in Montreal and didn't order smoked meat were you really in Montreal at all?? Dunn's was not on our radar for list of restaurants to go to. We walked by on our way over for dinner at another place and saw the big red sign that said OPEN 24H outside of Dunn's. After another late night of shenanigans we quickly thought of Dunn's which was not disappointing at all. I ordered their Reuben sandwich served with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing, fries, coleslaw and a pickle spear. The meat was fatty enough that it melts in your mouth but not greasy that would make you sick. The portion was big I think big enough to share with someone if you aren't overly hungry. They are a bar style so the servers are a little more laid back easy and friendly to talk to. They are very attentive and will come around filling our glasses up with ice water. Quick (no lines), easy, friendly service. This isn't a gourmet restaurant, but, I mean, it's warm, tasty food in a charming environment with absolutely no stress. We wandered in here somewhat by accident and were frankly happy we didn't wait in line at one of the other "must try" places. Are any of those places "better"? No idea. I've been trying the smoke meat restaurants downtown near where I work and I've been to Dunn's a few times but never wrote a review (since this was before I joined Yelp). I decided to stop by here recently during lunch. Closest metro to this place is Peel and the restaurant is located between Ste-Catherine and Rene Levesques area. When I went there, there was a terrasse in the front but I decided to sit inside. I went inside and was asked if I wanted to sit at the bar or at a table/booth. I decided to sit at the bar. I was given the menu and looked at the lunch specials. I was surprised that their lunch specials did not include any smoke meat sandwich plates. I decided to order a smoke meat sandwich (which came with the usual dill pickle, coleslaw, and fries) and just have water. I was asked whether I wanted lean or medium and I opted for medium. In the first place that I sat down in the bar which was directly in front of the draft beer dispenser, there seemed to be a lot of flies so I asked the server if I could change seats and she mentioned that it was fine so I decided to move to a few seats away. Within a few minutes, someone came with my order. The coleslaw was very good. The fries were very good as well. The smoke meat wasn't the type of smoke meat that I preferred since I like it to be a bit drier and "flakier" but it was good nevertheless. The place got very crowded very fast during my lunch. When I showed up at around 11:55am, the place was crowded (but not 100% full) and I was seated immediately. By the time I was about to leave (~12:35pm), there was a line of people waiting to be seated. I would rank the experience/food 3 stars. Service wise, I didn't get my water refilled during my meal and what type of deli or smoke meat place doesn't have a smoke meat sandwich in their lunch menu prices but has other things like fish & chips?!?! Good hardy food, nice place to sit down and enjoy what you're about to eat, you can get your food in a reasonable amount of time. The service is nice, waitresses have always been friendly and helpful to us and finally, the ambiance is welcoming to all (single people, romantic date place and family place). I've been to Dunn's so many times, as a child, as a young adult, on dates with my hubby and even to celebrate birthdays with my folks. You can't go wrong with Dunn's. read more
