My wife and I were in Montreal recently, my first trip to Montreal or Quebec. We looked up options for poutine in the area near our hotel and Dunn's came up. We got seated immediately and the restaurant was pretty full. We wanted to get an authentic experience with poutine and smoked meat. My wife ordered a hot dog poutine, and we ordered a smoked meat Caesar salad and and Dunn's Famous Burger (A burger with smoked meat and an almost bagel like bun). They were all pretty good. I was less familiar with smoked meat (if you're not familiar it's a regional delicacy, smoked brisket with a different seasoning than pastrami, but locals, don't call it pastrami). I probably couldn't tell the difference between smoked meat and pastrami, but the smoked meat I tried was yummy. At least we had a salad to keep us slightly honest. This is my second time visiting Dunns. My first time was by myself at their Metcalfe location. This time around I was with my family and decided to check this location out. My son ordered their Smoked Meat Bagel, my wife ordered their Le Petit Smoked Meat sandwich, and I of course had to go with their Super Combo Smoked Meat. You can never go wrong with smoked meat. Overall the service was great. Very prompt and friendly service. But most importantly, the food tasted delicious. While visiting Montreal I decided to drop by an old favourite at a newer location, Dunn's on Jean Talon and Decarie. Eating here reminded why the Smoked Meat is still better in Montreal than Toronto, despite Toronto having improved over the years. The Smoked Meat was excellent and so were the sweet potato fries. To top it off I ordered a Cherry Cola, and since Cott's closed down, Dunn's are now making their own Cherry Cola which tastes basically the same. All in all a very pleasant experience. read more

I'm usually not a fan of smoked meat sandwiches, but Dunn's has a great smoked brisket sandwich. My friend and I landed in Montreal and made Dunn's our first lunch stop. The vibe is old school diner with booths and a bar lined with red stools. The service is quick and efficient and we had multiple servers during our visit. My friend and I opted for the small smoked meat sandwich combo and the smoked meat poutine. We were taken aback by the huge portions for both the sandwich and the poutine (but better more than less). The smoked meat sandwich had a decent amount of meat and came with a ton of fries. This was bad news because the poutine came with a ton of fries, gravy, cheese curds, and smoked meat bits. Taste-wise, the meat used for both mains were deliciously smoky and tender. The only problem was that the sandwich used flimsy rye bread that got soggy quickly. On the other hand, the poutine was comforting with a blanket of savory gravy and melted cheese curds. Paired with ketchup, mayo, and mustard, both the sandwich and poutine made for a hearty meal. Dunn's is a great choice in the middle of winter when you want a warm carb and protein filled meal to protect you from the cold. It's almost impossible to find a Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich outside of the area since it will either be corned beef, pastrami, or brisket. We were asked what type of cuts we wanted for our smoke meat and both my friend and I opted for the medium (there is fatty, medium, and lean). Within a few minutes, our orders arrived, I used my rye bread and put a few pieces of smoke meat in it to make my sandwich and topped it with some mustard. I found it to be very good. The plate size was decent for the price. They have free WiFi in this place which requires a password. Since my cellphone was having issues with accessing the data (speed-wise). I'm not sure if it was because coverage in the restaurant wasn't good or whether it was because the area didn't have good coverage for data. I asked for the password for the WiFi and was given it. I had a problem connecting originally but when the server returned, I asked her for the WiFi password again and she gave it to me and this time it worked with her clarification. After finishing, we were asked how we were going to pay and both of us said separately and with credit card. The server brought the portable credit card reader to our table and we paid for our meals before leaving. Service was great and the server was very friendly and talkative. Food arrived fast and our water was refilled during our meal without us asking. Also free working WiFi (with password which they easily provided when asked). 2 reasons why it's 1 star is not the food is the problem. Entering the restaurant we were asked to show our vaccination passport plus ID so we did with no problem while other people coming into the restaurant just walked in and the waitress just brought them to a table without asking for any form of ID or vaccination proof. 2nd. After we were done eating and paying. I gave my waitress a 5$ cash tip and she replied with your supposed to give me a 15% tip. Then turns around with my 5$ bill and walks away with attitude. Finally make our way back - not much to add to other reviews beyond that for a newbie you have a choice with the smoked meat sandwiches. Lean, medium and fatty. Dunn's is a great chain if you want quick and comforting smoked meat. The meals are hearty and flavorful and the meat is always juicy and flavorful. I've had their burgers, sandwiches, poutines and even their smoked meat fried rice. Everything I've had so far has been super tasty. I will say that their fries are one of the best ones I've ever had! The prices can be a little bit expensive but it's nothing that will break your bank. I'll explain right away: I'm pregnant- so when I had a super random craving for food at midnight, my SO jumped at the chance of bringing me to Dunn's since it is open 24 hours. It was the first time I had been to Dunn's on Decarie and it was delicious. There were at least 4 other tables full of people when we arrived close to 12AM. The service was quick and very courteous. My SO ordered the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. He really enjoyed it, but he did say the potatoes were a bit lumpy. Some people like lumpy mashed potatoes though, so to each their own! I ordered the Spaghettini Bolognese (I know- who orders pasta at a diner that is famous for their smoked meat, right?) and it was delicious. I almost wanted to tell the waitress that I am pregnant when she saw that I used up 3/4 of the parmesan cheese container but she didn't say a word- (very polite, thank you). I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. The walls are covered in beautiful artwork and they also have 3 televisions so we were able to watch the replay of the hockey game. We didn't order any dessert this time, but on our way out, when I saw the beautiful cakes, I almost regretted it- they look amazing.
