    Classic poutine
    Tiffany C.

This place came highly recommended from a local, and I can understand why. So poutine is not their main fare, however, it is one of the best poutines I've tried in the city! What makes it different is the gravy. It's not a heavy dark/beef gravy like you'd expect, it's a much lighter, but still flavourful almost rotisserie-like gravy (reminiscent of the gravy at Swiss Chalet but in the best way). Fresh cheese curds (to be expected here) and fries had a good texture (just enough bite to it, soft and pillowy on the inside). Would highly recommend, great price for a large portion as well!

The beef pita is really good and cheap (under $7). I haven't been to one pita place where the beef wasn't dry, here it's tender and flavourful. Overall the texture is really nice with the tzatziki sauce. So is the Pitarifique poutine - just a great combination of toppings without being pretentious. Decently priced, lots of different meats available. A neighborhood staple, that's for sure.

So glad I heeded Yelp reviews and stopped in here while my boyfriend and I were visiting the area. We were pretty hungry and decided to share the Pitarifique Poutine which was absolutely delicious and loaded on with tasty soulvaki. You can definitely tell this a local spot for students and others alike. The platters looked delicious and huge as well but we weren't hungry enough to get one though I will say everything looked plentiful for the price asked! IG: @KFitzEats

Deluxe burger with a side of onion rings

Staying up late to write a paper? Come to Pitarifique. Had a long night out at the club and working up an appetite? Slide by Pitarifique. Just hungry and craving a cheap and delicious meal? Go to Pitarifique! My regular order flip flops between the cheeseburger and the pita souvlaki and I ALWAYS get onion rings. The cheeseburger is flavorful and is so good with a dab of tzatziki. The pita souvlaki is to die for, the meat is soooo tender and well seasoned. And the onion rings? Wow. To die for. They're always served fresh and are the perfect level of crunchiness.

    Pitarifique poutine! So good

This place is super low key but really cheap and delicious. I've had their philly cheesesteak and pitarifique poutines and both are awesome and huge with tons of toppings. Souvlaki was also surprising good, really tender and juicy meat. A plus is that it's such a casual takeout-y restaurant but they serve beer (also for cheap)! It's maybe not the ambiance for a first date, but for a 758th date with your partner of several years It's perfect.

    Gyro wrap.

Came to this place for lunch one day, looking for something good, comforting, cheap and fast and I got it... I ordered the gyro wrap with just a drink and it was very filling! A couple of things that would have made my experience better... 1. I was asked if I wanted "everything" in my pita... It was my first time there so I didn't know what "everything" included... Listing the filling options for the customer would definitely show more attention to detail. 2. When I got there the place where all the empty plates are placed was overflowing. It definitely needed some tlc... 3. And lastly... this might sound funny but I don't like their exterior signage! lol... am I the only one who finds it hard to read in the daytime... red letters on wooden panels?! Simple white lettering with a black outline would have sufficed! Or not... I'm no expert, just visually challenged I guess. I don't mean for any of the above to come off as negative comments, I would definitely return to this place and if you're in the area you should check it out too.

Ye!!!! finally something new to talk about! It has been a while since I have discovered anything new worthy of reviewing, but now it is with pleasure that I shout out my new favorite steak sandwich place. The cost is 10 dollars for a large (which is easily 2 " foot longs"), and in our last order we tried the cheeseburger at 4$. So now we know it is cheap, but is it good? Well the hubby said his burger was good, but the reason for this review is the Philly Cheese steak sub, I am now addicted! The bread is warm and fresh, the meat is flavorful and juicy, the lettuce shredded perfectly, and a nice big piece of tomato....is your mouth watering yet, mine is..., not sure what the cheese was and it doesn't matter because it is melted into the goodness, and finally a perfect garlic mayo that just takes it to the next level. I will highly recommend them, I will be a regular customer, and I am thrilled to share and get the word out. FYI I have been not yet stepped foot inside as I have had these loveley morsels delivered by someone else, but I will be checking it out to see what other gems they have in store on the menu.

    Veggie Poutine

During my visit to Montreal, I had a single thought in my mind..."must try poutine" I tried to go to the more known place across the street, but it was small and cramped and the service seemed non-existent. I looked out the window and saw Pitarifique was fairly empty and had tables so we made the switch. I ordered the small veggie poutine and I'm so glad I did. The small was huge. As far as the taste, I'm no poutine expert, but this was amazing. I couldn't get enough of all the flavors blended together from the gravy and cheese and veggies. For a first poutine experience, I definitely picked right.

Awesome gem in the area. Honestly I didn't think the food would be good but it exceeded my expectation tremendously. Presentation, looked a bit messy and difficult to eat, but the taste was great!! I'd Def reccomend and come back myself

Pitarifique is fast efficient little restaurant with all your typical Montreal fast food options (pizza, poutine, pita, subs etc). Food is made right in front of you and served just the way you like it. I ordered the gyro and I enjoyed it. I'm really happy I found this little spot and look forward to trying new things.

Their vegetarian poutine is the bomb. Every time I am in Montreal I get it here. So good. Pitas are very good too.

Way better and much cleaner than Patati! The only thing Patati conquers in my opinion are their French fries.

I'd never had the French Canadian heart-attack-on-a-plate, and was a little nervous as it just looks like it has A LOT going on. I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal. Is it an ideal meal dead sober at 4:11am? No, absolutely not, but this is an S-tier hangover food. Also, if there is ever a day when I need some extra calories, it's on a 100k step day. All the staff was so welcoming, and surprisingly chipper this early in the morning. SHOUTOUT TO LA BANQUISE! THANK YOU FOR FUELING THE JOURNEY! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

I took my niece from New York City here because La Banquise is supposed to be the "must try" poutine spot in Montreal. We had a great night overall: soccer game, drinks at Mellon Brasserie (none of us were drunk; my wife was 100% sober). Everything was fun and chill. But La Banquise completely ruined the end of that trip, and I'm not okay with letting this go. We paid for the food and service. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: at the end of the day, we were customers, and we deserved to be treated with respect. We waited for our Uber outside. It was cold, and I'm on crutches, so my injuries hurt badly in the cold. After waiting outside for a long time with the Uber not showing up, we went back inside to wait near the door, in the corner, not blocking anyone. The staff at the door immediately came in and started rudely and aggressively kicking us out. He refused to speak English with me after I clearly said, "I don't speak French, so talk to me in English." He kept talking French and was rude to my wife, my niece, and me. He told the waitress in French that we were "blocking the way," which was 100% false. (My wife speaks French) We were just standing near the entrance, waiting for a few minutes, trying to get out of the cold. When I went to the cashier and explained, "This guy is kicking me out. I just paid for my meal. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: you're still a customer, and you shouldn't be kicked out and treated like trash just because you're waiting for your Uber on crutches. I'm on crutches, it's cold, and my Uber isn't here yet," they called a waitress who also started telling us to leave instead of helping. She didn't try to find a solution; she just said, "No, no, leave, leave." This is not just bad service. This is disgusting, disrespectful treatment of a paying customer with a mobility issue. My niece, who had a blast all night, ended the trip saying, "What the f....? You bring me here and they treat us like this?" She now has a bad impression of Montreal because of this place. My niece is from New York City, and she's also posting her own review. That review will be seen by people in New York and by tourists looking for recommendations. If you treat tourists like this, you're not just ruining one night, you're ruining the image of the whole city. Montreal is supposed to be a welcoming city for tourists and people looking to have fun and be treated with respect. La Banquise failed that completely. The food was okay, but the experience was terrible because of how we were treated. This is unacceptable. You should be ashamed of how you handled this.
