Well, well, well! Dan has always been a hit mess with me. The one on Decarie is not good. The one on Saint Catherine is the original. It's good. This one was actually fantastic... The meat was cut, thin and the pickles were on point. I love the ravioli stuffed with smoked meat. Those are great dunking and mustard. The Louisiana soup is something you'll want to try this location actually made it a thick hearty soup with lots of cheese and green onions on top. This was a consistently delicious spot that was open late for us to enjoy almost every night of the 5 nights (and days) we stayed in Montreal lol My husband was able to find a chicken poutine that he loved and the smoked meat one was good for me as well. We got our food to go each time so can't speak to the in-person dining option. The to-go ability was also great because many places don't offer that as well. First of all when entering an establishment great if you can open the door without dislocating your shoulder. Front door was really hard to open originally thought restaurant had closed. Used to seeing Dunn's deli with desserts on display. Not the case here. We were provided with a menu to place our takeout order. Gentleman than went away to take what appeared to be a personal call. It was short so that was ok- did try to engage him in some conversation. Not very customer oriented. Figured I'd ask if xxx was still owner was told owner was Jimmy. I asked, so he owns franchise or all of Dunn's. He just laughed & stated Jimmy was owner. We got our takeout order got to car, saw 3 cakes thought we were good to go seeing as napkins were in bag. NOPE. Get to picnic destination only to find no forks!!! Would be great if takeout actually provided all items needed. Pooh and I came here for lunch today. We were the first people here but the service was speedy and the server super friendly. We both ordered the Smoked Meat Platter and a Diet Pepsi We almost missed the restaurant because the sign was hidden by trees. Our table was designed as a hockey rink. The meal itself was humongous so you better be hungry when you order it. They bring you a ketchup bottle size of mayo which I loved!! Was in Montreal for a work trip and met up with an old coworker. We saw Dunn's on the way to finding a restaurant to eat at . I recognized it because of the pickles I have tried in the past. We both ordered the smoked meat sandwich with a side of fries and coleslaw. The smoked meat was amazing! I would just say that the bread pieces should be just a little bit larger and there would be more mustard on the sandwich. That part was a little dry but the meat made it nice and soft. The fries and coleslaw were really good as well. The place was clean but it seems it needs to be updated just a little bit. Our server was amazing and so was the rest of the staff there. I'm not a huge fan of smoked meat but never had Dunn's so was excited to see how it would be compared to lester's and schwartz. I got the club roll smoked meat sandwich and it was actually really good. A bit salty but that is to be expected for smoked meat and salami sandwich. the fries were great too (I initially ordered the mashed potatoes but they didn't have them that night so they gave me sauce for free to compensate which is very nice of them). What made it such a great evening was the service, we were a huge group (30ish people) and not only did they have the room to accommodate us but every order was on time and correct. We have had take out here as well as eaten in their dining area and the food is amazing!!! The staff is super friendly and the service is quick and efficient :) I am obsessed with their spaghetti Alfredo, the sauce is so creamy and thick. And if you have a sweet tooth, the chocolate cake is mouth watering! read more

Dunn's might not be Schwartz's, but if you have a group of 8, there's no way you're getting into Schwartz's. Luckily, Dunn's has smoked meat that is almost as good, plus they're able to take a group. My group showed up a little after opening on a Saturday in July, a mix of Montréalers and Americans. I had a bit of trouble deciding what to order, as so much looked good, but I settled on the smoked meat bagel sandwich. Can't go wrong combining two of Montréal's signature dishes, right? I love New York style bagel sandwiches, so I was curious about how Montréal's answer would compare. When the food came out, my plate had a heaping pile of fresh-cut fries and a bagel with warm smoked meat stacked high. It was hard to resist shoveling the food into my mouth. The unique taste of the Montréal-style bagel worked well with the meat, swiss cheese, and lettuce, making for a bagel sandwich unlike anything I've had in New York. The fries were excellent and, if I was able to eat poutine, they would have made for a great poutine. Speaking of which, several members of my group ordered the poutine and enjoyed it. Prices were relatively reasonable: under $15 for an entree and drink. Is the meat as good as Schwartz's? No. But is it still damn good? Heck yes. If you don't want to deal with Montréal parking or the line out the door, Dunn's is a solid place to get smoked meat in one of the best food cities in the world. read more

It's all about the Reuben sandwich at Dunn's!! I've tried a few of their dishes now and the only one I would order is the Reuben's sandwich (medium). It comes with fries (meh), coleslaw and an AMAZING pickle. It's such a savoury cheat day kinda sandwich, with cheese, sauce and lots of meat! I can only ever eat 1/2 the sandwich and I've never made it to dessert since I'm too full but I will be back for that sandwich! Atmosphere-wise, it's kind of like a rowdy diner but cleaner. Not a restaurant that I would recommend as a first date, but definitely something to try when you have munchies since they're open 24 hours. This restaurant is pretty new in the area. Balsamic salad with chicken was very good and big enough to fill up yourself. I tried the famous cheesecake topped with strawberries and I also liked it. Service was great, fast. read more

I'm giving this restaurant 2/5 stars because I really didn't find the food that great. The service was fine, but the quality of the food seemed to be cheap. I ordered the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes, and it seemed like it was a premade frozen hamburger. I was expecting a nice thick dark sauce, but that was not the case (see pic). The taste really wasn't that great. Me friend ordered the Thai salad but it was so spicy she couldn't even eat it. There were a couple other friends with me also and their food was also just okay. Went there for a Friday night hangout. The good: Lots of nice food choices. Decent pricing. Good size desserts. Good service. Good food (had the all dressed poutine). You can bring back home the rest of your dish, and it seems to be the standard there. Good portions. Tv on wall showing latest sport event. Has a bar. Clean and modern bathrooms. The bad: Bathrooms downstairs, not on same floor level. Can get loud in the evenings. Can get quickly crowded in the evening. Really good choice to go eat, since the place is open 24-hours. Crazy fast service! We ordered and had everything within 5 minutes at 6pm on a Sat night. You can find smoked meat on pretty much everything in their menu. We had Caesars with pulled pork egg roll, pickle, and cucumber. We got the small smoked meat sandwich and I upgraded to poutine. It was huge! The bread for the sandwiches is terrible and the meat is ok. I ended up putting it on my poutine. Gravy is decent and the only thing that makes the fries tasty, but there are better places here and in Toronto (Lakeview). Our server was great though. He gets five stars. Overall: 3.5 read more

Pretty delicious smoked meat sandwich. Unfortunately I couldn't get it this time around because they say to avoid deli meats while pregnant so I got chicken tenders and fries, which were also pretty decent. This is one of my Dad's favourite spots to hit when he comes into town and I have to say I was extremely jealous of his smoked meat sandwich. I will no longer go to this place. The last two times that I went there with my wife, we experienced either cleanliness issues or ordering problems. The cleanliness issue ( the second to last visit ) was there was a dead spider in the bottom of our pitcher of beer, which the waitress showed no alarm to, saying that "it was added protein" and didn't even offer to make amends by at least removing the beer from our bill. The order issue ( our last visit) was that we didn't receive pickles with our smoke meat sandwiches, which I brought to the waitress's attention before we even started to eat. The waitress brushed it off and brought them to our table once we had finished our meal. Two bad experiences in a row, and this wasn't even during peek meal time. That's about enough for me to stop going there. Smoke meat sandwiches are small with not too much meat, the bread was dry. If you go there and are really hungry, you may want to order a second meal. Check the forks before you eat, there could be residue from a previous meal. Not too clean and terrible service. The food is far from the level of Schwartz. I'm surprised that this place is still open. This place is a disgrace to the Dunn's restaurant reputation of the old Dunn's on Saint-Catherine street in Montreal. I think Quebec's health inspectors should pay them a visit. Avoid this place if you expect to be treated as a valued customer. read more

Stopped in for lunch the other day. Had not been in awhile and it may be awhile before I go back. The menu is extensive, but stuck with a classic smoke meat platter, medium, which had more fat than I expected and with the rest it was just ok. The pickle was the best part. The food is excellent and the kitchen service is fast - but our waitress, despite being personable and bilingual, was slow to care for us. We had 2 young children with us and even with their best behaviour the wait was too long for things like taking our order, clearing the plates, bringing a dessert menu and especially bringing our bill. I watched people in other sections who arrived after our meal was served clear out before us.
