Small Poutine
James Y.

I was in the Longueuil area for work and got recommended to try Alfa from a coworker. Really good poutine with super squeaky curds and a good not-too-salty gravy that all worked well together. The small was a big portion that was more than enough for a single person (almost got the large and definitely would have regretted eating all of that later). The only issue I had really was there weren't enough fries in ratio to gravy/curds which is very minor. The place definitely looks like a landmark and a go-to spot for a lot of people as it was busy even at 3 pm. Definitely a worthwhile visit if you're in the area.

Don't have a good poutine place around home so I came here since I heard it was the place to go for poutine. The small is huge and the cheese curd is plentiful but I found the sauce too salty. I ordered a hotdog too not realizing the size of the poutine. The hotdog was good though the guy threw the relish on it like he had a fight with it and lost.

Everyone, drop whatever you're doing. Drive, bus, bike, walk, run, hop, jump, skip, I don't care, this is THE place to have your standard Quebec quality poutine (and I emphasize STANDARD, as in without all the additional stuff you usually add at La Banquise). I visited here a few days ago after a tip from my friend, who is 99% never wrong when it comes to good food, especially in Montreal. Sure enough, this time was part of the 99%. I ordered a standard small poutine with a drink, and the poutine, despite the small size, is gigantic. I finished maybe about 60-70% of it, and even my friend who has a huge appetite, only barely finished the whole thing. I can't imagine anyone finishing a large unless they're sharing. As for the poutine, it's everything that it should be. LOTS of cheese curds (as in you can't see the fries), gravy that's actually tasty, and fries that are picked perfectly and fried fresh. The best part about all this is that the waiting time for a poutine to finish is only about 2 minutes, yet you can really feel like all the ingredients are fresh. I honestly don't know how they do it. Now, despite all the gloating, you wonder why I didn't give it 5 stars? The pricing mechanism. The poutine is priced fairly at around $6, with hot dogs being a cheap 79 cents, however they earn back your money by inflating the cost of drinks. A can of pop cost $2.19 not including tax, which is more than the $1-1.50 price I'm used to. If anything don't bother purchasing drinks until after you finish your poutine, where there's a McDonald's a stones throw away. With that aside, what are you waiting for? Go! I know I will in my next visit to Montreal!

Large Greek poutine with Michigan hotdog

EPIC lunch!!! I forgot how delicious this place is. We drove from MSH just to get our cravings out of the way. Still as busy as I remember (I used to live in Longueuil). The poutine was LIT! It was loaded with poutine gravy and sooooooo much squik squik cheese. The Michigan hotdog was LIT! Even the steamed 0.99$ hotdog was very good! We had the large smoked meat poutine AKA the Greek poutine, a Michigan hotdog with onions and an all-dressed steamy for about 24,..$. It was huge! I mean, WOW! I will never forget how good this place is. Never again lol. For me, this is the best poutine in Quebec!

Poutines are EXCELLENT however they've reduced the size of the pie plate and increased the price. Geez.

The food is excellent and the prices one of the best of the south river of Montreal, I suggest it to visit this place.

Great visit to La Banquise! Heard so many great things and this had to be a must visit for us in…read moreMontreal. There was a small 20 minute wait to get in, and they had 2 lines, one for take out and one for dine in. We had. Nice employee come by and check on us to make sure we were in the right line, so really good service right from the start! Once we got in, we ordered the large La Shoot Out (9/10 rating). This thing was loaded and it was all so good. It came with smoked meat, bacon, spicy sausage and pepperoni on top of the traditional cheese curds and gravy. Totally worth jt for $28.60 CAD. Their Blanche beer (8/10) was light and refreshing and balanced out the savory poutine. The ambiance in the restaurant was loud and busy. The tables were a tight fit and every table and seat were filled. There was some decor and throughout the restaurant. Overall, great experience to try authentic Canadian Poutine! Highly recommend!

While in Montreal we had to try poutine and this place was the most recommended restaurant…read more To start off, be prepared to wait in line. The line wasn't too busy when we went, we waited about 20 minutes to be seated, which wasn't bad at all. But, we were told it can get long. The restaurant itself is super busy and tables are pretty close to each other. It has a cool and modern vibe to it. There is also outdoor seating. Their menu has over 20 different types of poutine. We decided to get the La shoot-out - this has smoked meat, bacon, spicy sausage, and pepperoni. We shared the large portion and it was massive. I give it a 9/10 - it was delicious! They loaded it with a lot of meat, the fries were soft with some crispiness, the gravy was soooo good, and the cheese curds were yummy. This whole concoction was great! To drink we ordered one of their beers - La Banquise Blanche - nice beer! Service was good, our waitress was nice and helpful. Overall, this a must if you are in Montreal. You can't miss eating poutine.

Killing some time in the city and was hungry do someone in our party found this place close by…read more I like this place a lot. From the unique table designs to the imagery on the walls, reminded me of Friendly's back home. I ordered a french onion soup which was probably not the best move as we were trying to have a quick lunch, oops. I shared it and we used the excess broth for dunking our sandwich's in. Very tasty soup. Came out hot but cooled quick. Club sandwich was enjoyable. Would have been better probably on the bagel as the sandwich bread didn't quite hold well together with all the fixings in it. Overall a place I would recommend. Bathroom is not accessible as kt is down a large flight of stairs so be cautious with that.

Also the tables along the center of the restaurant are adjacent to another table, you can turn your head and see you neighbor maybe 6 in away from your face. Our server was good. We ordered and got our food quickly. We ordered a French onion soup, poutine and a montreal smoked meat club. The soup was pretty good, had a nice cheese top. The poutine was a nice portion to share. And the club had a good amount of meat in it. Apparently they say they're known for their cheesecake, we tried a slice. The cheesecake was rich and decadent and it was topped with the a strawberry sauce. This cheesecake didn't have a crust. Definitely good to share. Price point is good for this establishment. Seems like a family friendly sports bar.
