    Classic poutine

Save yourself the time. Their poutine is not even close to what a poutine should be. Avoid the garden salad as well. $15 is a lot of money for lettuce.

After walking around for a place to eat, we found the only only burger joint in the heart of downtown montreal to eat at. There were only Mediterranean or Asian restaurants as well as many bars, and as we were passing, the man was outside trying to get people to try their restaurant. He said it's pure beef, not like other places that mix it with animal products, so we decided to give it a try: Hero burger - 2 1/2 stars - would have been 4 if they hadn't burnt it. We ordered well done, but my poor son had it charred. For more than $17, he got a regular charred sized burger with lots of fries. I think just ordering without fries is more worth it if all the other servings are with fries. Combo chicken and burger with fries - 3 1/2 stars - again, I think they are trying to compensate for the price by giving a huge mound of fries. We ordered medium well, and it was a little burnt, but ok, at least not as charred as the hero burger. The burger was excellent, but the chicken was a bit burnt and dry. Poutine with ground meat - 4 stars - first time eating poutine, but after trying other poutine at other places, I like this one the best. I think it's their gravy, cheese and meat mix that makes their poutine the best. Steak - 3 stars - for $30, the steak was thin, but chewy. I can grill better steak than what we got, but it was ok. Salad - just basic - lettuce with strips of carrots. Coleslaw - 3 stars - pretty good, ok. Service - 4 stars - the waitress was nice and patient. We got to sit by the window to look outside and acclimate ourselves to the area.

Well, this was kind of disappointing ... We stopped by for breakfast since we walked past this place and it seemed good on the surface. We also didn't want to have anything elaborate that morning so we opted for this local quick fix/diner place. The place was pretty empty at around 8am and we were able to get a decent seat. Given it was Labor Day morning so they were pretty lean in terms of staffing and we found out there was only one cook at the time. Unsurprisingly the food took awhile but that was fine. The breakfast platter I got was mediocre at best. What killed me was how the eggs were a mess ... it's hard to mess up scrambled eggs lol. Even I could have jammed it out better. The bacon was also burnt. However, I did also try their pancakes and they were fine. Gotta love Canadian maple syrup to save the day!

This place definitely makes me nostalgic. I think I had high expectations which kind of fell short. I used to come here as a kid all the time before habs games with my dad. I remembered the fries being out of this world. This time, I came on a weeknight and was pretty disappointed. The interior is very nice. The booths give off a classic feel and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. My boyfriend and I decided to share plates. Note that if you share one plate, there is a sharing charge (I hate when restaurants do this) We ordered: Mr Steerburger Supreme platter (1 bacon burger and 1 cheese burger +fries) Mr Frankfurt (1 hot dog with fries) Most meals come with either a small salad or coleslaw. I recommend getting the salad because the coleslaw was very meh. I actually really enjoyed my little salad. The fries came out and were not fresh. They were burnt and dry and weren't hot. As we were walking out later, we saw the fries of another table and they looked fresh and delicious like I remembered. Maybe we just got unlucky. The burgers were good but not great. They are pretty small and the buns are nothing special. The toppings (cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce) were of good quality. Make sure to ask for pickles! It is average price for this area, maybe a bit pricy. However, its great location might justify this. The service from our waitress was excellent. Food 2/5 Service 4/5 Atmosphere 4/5

We wanted to relax with friends and watch a game at home, so we decided to pick up Burger Patties from this spot and make burgers at home! They have frozen patties of their best selling burgers, that can be bought at a great price. It's even cheaper if you buy them in bulk! The patties may be from a diner, but they are high quality beef, juicy and absolutely delicious! We brought them home, cooked them and literally inhaled the burgers!! The patties were definitely the highlight of the evening's meal! Would definitely recommend this spot for those summer BBQ's!

This restaurant is a must. We stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised at the food and decor. Seemingly a diner-style establishment, it is a classically decorated and has home-made, casual fare. The portions were robust and the mister steerburger was hand formed and cooked to perfection. We tried the classic poutine - and it was the best by far for any that we tried on our trip (which was a lot). They also provide ice cold beverages in glass mugs - a nod to their humble beginnings. While the waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable - she was a bit dry in personality. She warmed up when it came to dessert - recommending the house-made mousse and sugar pie. These are must try items. We left full and happy. We will definitely be returning again.

Bacon cheeseburger and Suzie Q fries

Often lauded as a Montreal institution MIster Steer is serving up hamburgers in a old-school diner setting in Montreal. They have supposedly been voted one of the best burgers in Montreal six years in a row. The menu is varied so you will find something to eat even if you are not in the mood for a burger. As Mister Steer is known for its burgers it made sense to get a bacon cheeseburger. Mister Steer burgers have very thick patties. The burger as a whole is decent but not mind-blowing. While the patty is really juicy the bun they use is kind of cheap and not much better than what you find at the grocery store. It can be accompanied by Suzie Q fries if you so desire. I must admit that the fries are a little disappointing. They were soggy and bland. Sure you can add salt to make up for the lack of flavour but you can't do anything about the sogginess. This cost me about $15-$16 which is fair for downtown. I must have been here on an off-night because on my recent visit the service wasn't as good as some other reviewers are suggesting. It was slow and at times it felt like our server had forgotten our table. There was definitely room for improvement in this area. Mister Steer didn't seem to live up to the hype. While it wasn't terrible it also wasn't amazing. It would be the kind of place that I would come to if I happened to be nearby and really hungry, however I wouldn't make an effort for it.

We were tired of our free hotel breakfast, so decided to check this place out. The food is plentiful and cheap, and quite good. I had a combo with eggs, toast, a pancake, ham, and fries. Good Lord. I couldn't finish it, but it was all very good, some of the best diner food I've had.

I went into Reuben's at around 8:45 in the morning hoping to get a smoked meat sandwich. They said they don't serve it until at least 10. I said "I'll be back" because I didn't want to have eggs from Reuben's. So I just decided to walk down St. Catherine street to see what was there. I saw a cool looking cow and they had a great selection of breakfast items, checked a few Yelp reviews and then ventured on in. Likes: -Service was friendly -The Steerburger special is amazing. It's a small, but very good quality beef patty (good enough that they ask how you want it - I said medium), bacon or ham or sausage, eggs, shoestring fries, toast and coffee for $9.85 -The coffee has free refills -The Steerburger was very good and despite it being cooked medium, it was still moist. -The shoestring fries were AMAZING!! I loved these so much. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Dislikes: -None really but could be slightly cleaner. I was going to sit at one booth near the outside but saw the seat was a bit dusty so I decided to find a new one. Not a huge deal though. Like or Dislikes depending on your preference: -It's an old diner look but it adds to the fun of the place, IMO. Verdict: This is a great place for breakfast and much cheaper than Chez Cora. Should try it out. 4.5/5

This became my favourite restaurant in the 3 days we stayed in Canada. Literally came here for breakfast every morning and sometimes lunch. Our waitress was amazing. Unlike the U.S, I love that they have a hook to hang your jacket right at your table. They have so many food options! You have to try the suzie Q fries with the "orange sauce". The burgers are great, juicy and made to order! They are small but the taste makes up fog it. Probably should order 2 burgers if you are a hearty eater

Pooh and I loved our drinks but for the price there should have been more alcohol and less ice. Marie wasn't crazy about her drink. She thought it was more like a cherry juice drink We shared the Calamari platter which was piping hot and had a delicious dipping sauce which Marie kept for her fries. For our main meal I ordered their Fried Chicken Salad. Pooh ordered Apollo à la Brasa, and Marie had Lobster Roll with fries and salad. I liked my salad but since it was "fried chicken " I thought the chicken would be hot. It was just warm so the skin wasn't crispy; more loose like sagging skin. Pooh loved his dish but it was a tad salty and greasy. Marie loved everything. Each of us had a Brazilian coffee which was delicious. After we shared an order of their Beignets. These beignets were huge and came with two dipping sauces: caramel and whipped Nutella. They were heavenly Service was fast and friendly and the ambiance was lively - great music too We would definitely return. I will try a different dish.

The pancakes are buttery and crispy, thick too; just perfect! I even broke a hot sauce bottle on accident (sorry!) and it was not an issue at all as they said "it happens", and swiftly cleaned it up. Good vibes! Highly recommend the vodka orange juice, as they fresh squeeze the OJ daily. Super yummy! They have counter space, a variety of tables, and are usually very busy, so be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes or sometimes longer. THE BRUNCH FROM HELL Potential diners, proceed with caution…read more While visiting Montreal, I took two local friends to Beauty's Restaurant for brunch on Saturday, May 30, expecting a classic diner experience at this long-standing establishment that I have frequented for the last 10 years. Unfortunately, it turned into a complete disaster. The server was pleasant enough in the beginning when I ordered a bottle of Prosecco. She then asked my friends what they would like to drink. One ordered a cappuccino with oat milk, to which she sarcastically responded, "We're a diner; we don't do that here." He relented and ordered a cappuccino with regular milk instead. My second friend ordered a black coffee. You could tell she was not happy with us as she walked away. Several minutes later, a busser returned to the table carrying a bucket containing two unopened bottles of Prosecco. I told him, "Sorry, sir. Thank you, but I only ordered one." The confused busser walked away. Our server returned shortly thereafter and asked, "What's the problem?" I politely explained that I had only ordered one bottle, not two. She immediately became defensive, insisting that one of my friends had also ordered a bottle of Prosecco. Once again, I politely corrected her, explaining that one friend had ordered a coffee and the other a cappuccino with regular milk. She responded by pulling out her notepad and franticly flipped through her chicken-scratch writing, vigorously searching for evidence that would prove us wrong and set the record straight. She was unable to produce it. Her face turned red. Without saying a word, she abruptly grabbed one of the unopened bottles and walked away. At that precise moment, I knew we were in for the Brunch From Hell. Seven minutes passed before she returned with the coffee. The mood was tense and the atmosphere heavy. Another 25 minutes passed before the food finally arrived: a mixed green salad, a breakfast sandwich, and a smoked salmon bagel. My salmon bagel looked edible. My friend's breakfast sandwich, however, I wouldn't have fed to my dog food. These dishes were all priced between $16 and $22 before tax. Despite this, we put our heads down and ate the mediocre food. While consuming my $18 smoked salmon bagel--burnt around the edges, served on stale bread, and lacking capers or even a solitary lemon wedge--I thought to myself: if our server does the bare minimum and asks how the food is, I'll give her a 10% tip. She strategically returned about 15 minutes later, after we had finished eating. At that moment, my decision was made. I would not be tipping her. I told my friends to ask for separate bills while I stepped away to use the restroom. When I returned to the table, I was bewildered to find the server berating my friend over the amount he intended to tip. She demanded to know why he was only leaving 10%. I responded, "You really don't know why his tip is so low?" She became increasingly agitated and asked whether it was the food or the service. "Both," I replied. Her face now bright red, she snapped, "You ate all the food, so it couldn't have been the food!" I responded, "And this is how you speak to customers? You bully them into tipping more?" She fires back, "Your entitlement is outrageous. I only make $12 an hour." I repeated myself. "And this is how you speak to people? How's this working out for you? Not very well, I'm assuming." At this point, steam may as well have been coming out of her ears. She then argued, "Your friend ordered a mimosa!" To which I replied, "Mimosa is not a word that was spoken at this table." Outraged, she picked up the payment terminal and threw it down on the table in front of me. Looking at the screen, I took my time, carefully ensuring I did not tip a penny over my bill of $43.69. Growing impatient, she muttered, "Here, let me help you." Grabbing the machine aggressively, she forcefully selected the zero-tip option for me. I replied, "Thank you. That's the most helpful you've been the entire time." Taking the machine, she stormed away. The nightmare was finally over. We were free.

It's a family-owned institution that serves up warmth, tradition and is famous for pizza, smoked meat, seafood, grilled meats, salads, desserts, cheesecake, and more. Open late when most other places are closed, it's an unpretentious diner where my friends and I were glad to share some laughs, jokes with the waitstaff, and good food. We couldn't decide on what to order, so we defaulted to a poutine and a smoked meat platter with extra coleslaw. It felt like being in one of those late night diners with a large menu with lots of choices. The poutine didn't make the honour roll; it didn't fail, but I'd say it was decent and it passed. The smoked meat coming in as the valedictorian was not surprising since it's the namesake of the place. My friends prefer their smoked meat with a little bit of melt-in-your-mouth fat whereas I prefer it lean. Our waitress was kind enough to put both buttery, fatty and lean pieces on the platter so we were all happy. There was mustard ready to go at our booth table, we were ready to slather it on the rye bread. The smoked meat was warm, tender, tasty and delicious! The coleslaw also was good too with a good amount of sourness and garlic flavour. It's an alternative to Lester's, Snowdon Deli, or Schwartz's. I'd definitely return for the cozy ambiance and smoked meat.
