First time visiting Red Donut, I was intrigued after seeing them mentioned on Facebook. It's a tiny…read morelittle shop that shares a building with a florist. Easy to miss driving by so be on the lookout. The interior is dominated by a large display case filled with trays of donuts. I arrived on a Friday afternoon and several trays were empty so I would recommend arriving earlier in the day for best selection. There is one small table for those wishing to consume their donuts on the spot. Based on what was available I decided to purchase a half dozen. I took the last Maple Bacon and sugar donuts and also got a pink glazed, a plain glazed and two chocolate covered Creme filled. Service was friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed the donuts I have consumed. They are not the light Krispy Kreme doughnut consistency but they are not a heavy cake doughnut, either, kind of a hybrid. More dense than Krispy Kreme but still a light and fluffy consistency. I would have liked more maple frosting on the maple bacon. The chocolate covered Creme filled was the perfect balance of chocolate, creme filling and donut and all were tasty. The sugar donut was reminiscent of the little sugar donuts you get at a Chinese restaurant, but in regular donut form. I look forward to returning and getting more flavors to try and I will definitely be getting the chocolate covered Creme filled again.

My wife has been wanting to stop at this bakery for quite some time and today was the day. While…read moreneither of us have any food allergies, my wife eats a clean diet throughout the week and is less restrictive on the weekends. The bakery is located off Hanes Mall Boulevard. The parking is ample and it was easy to find. We entered and were immediately greeted by a young woman behind the counter. We began to peek into the bakery cases and couldn't help but notice all the accolades and attention this baker has received over the years. Anna is the owner and is competing on the Spring Baking Championship on the Food Network. We can't imagine all the thousands of people Anna had to compete with just to get the opportunity, impressive. As we looked over the items we asked a few questions, let me tell you that each and every item looked absolutely delicious! My wife decided to try the Oatmeal Cream Pie cookie which is described as "the best oatmeal cookies in the world filled with our signature vanilla bean buttercream". I decided on the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich which is described as "two of our classic chocolate chip cookies filled with buttercream". We had the young woman package the cookies since we had a couple other errands to run before enjoying them. My wife opened hers up a couple of hours later and from the first bite she was blown away! She loves a good cookie and she commented that this is the absolute best cookie she has ever tasted! The cookie also did not bother her stomach afterwards or make her feel bloated like many others. Let's talk price. The cookies were $8 each which initially felt expensive, but as we later talked about the national cookie place with the pink boxes down the street who charges $4 per cookie (these were approximately the same size and you get two, filled with incredible buttercream) and the taste is superior. Also when you look at splurge items such as a 20 oz. flavored latte at any of our favorite coffee places you are going to spend at least $7 a cup. So, in the end, it feels reasonable, especially when you consider the cost of the ingredients at a high end bakery such as To Your Health. I also really enjoyed the chocolate chip cookie with buttercream. I know this...we will absolutely be back! Note, they are open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. We should also mention their website which allows you to order larger quantities and cakes for custom orders.

That led me to To Your Health. It's a small bakery with minimal seating, but there's quite a bit here: cakes, cupcakes, pies, cookies, donuts, and more. As expected, there were more gluten-free than keto/paleo options, but a helpful staff member was able to point me toward a few sugar-free offerings. I ultimately went with a piece of pumpkin cheesecake, which proved to be a somewhat mixed experience. I knew the texture would be different from a classic New York-style, and it was. However, the sweet, creamy filling with warm spice notes proved to be plenty tasty in its own right. Unfortunately, I couldn't say the same about the crust as the pronounced almond flavor was a bit off-putting. Finally, while I was prepared for keto desserts to cost more, $9 for one piece of cheesecake still stung. To Your Health does a commendable job of providing options for those with food allergies and sensitivities, and if I were in that camp, I might rate them higher. I can appreciate the care they put into their offerings, but for me, they just weren't worth the cost.

A hidden sandwich shop that also offers baked goods, is tucked between a T-Mobile store and a Starbucks. A very casual shop with Wake Forest gear all around. The place opens at 9am during the work week andnclose at 4pm. My wife had the cinnamon roll and i was shocked how soft it was and wanted my own. I went at the end of the day on a Monday, sold out, but today, a Thursday i was able to get my hand on one and i was not disappointed. The thing is big, and enough to share for two. The sweet treat is nicely covered in icing and the texture of the dough is perfect, soft to eat with a plastic spoon, but has a nice chew like fresh baked bread. I git my cinnamon roll at 2pm and it was still delicious. Spread the word, Dioli's has a good cinnamon roll, you have to try it out.
