It took a little while before I was greeted, and I feel like they could have been a bit more welcoming and upbeat. I ordered a medium Americano. The cup was fairly large (probably around 12-16 oz), but when I asked how many shots of espresso were in it, I was told just one. Unfortunately, the coffee tasted very watered down. For a cup that size, I think two shots would have made a much better Americano. They did offer to add an extra shot, which I appreciated, but I think the espresso-to-water ratio could definitely be adjusted. With such a cute atmosphere, improving the coffee and making the service a little more energetic would really elevate the experience!

And love the Saturday Business Day!!!! - very cool for small black owned businesses to share their product and services. I've been here a few times now and really do enjoy it . I will say I recently didn't have the best experience with a take out order , who was taking orders as well as making coffee drinks--- took about an hour which is normally not the case. I also was waiting on the latte for a long while and no acknowledgment from her that she forgot when I attempted to inquire what was going on; since others who came in after me were getting drinks. Maybe some customer service training would help to at least address the customers when an inquiry was made about where is the drink. Would have been nice for her to acknowledge something !! I ended up getting a refund from another person up front. All in all I love the place and will come back for sure.

This location is super fitting too, with a lot of customers coming with their laptop or workbooks to not only eat and be served, but to use the space for their own personal development.

This review is about service and class and who I will and will not trust to prepare what I consume…read more I ordered a Velvet ice with oat milk. The woman taking my order added "no whip" because she assumed I didn't want dairy at all. When I asked for the whip they, with a nasty attitude, told me I had to pay extra. That didn't make sense to me considering the photo shows whip cream included. They started having a conversation in the back about me for making this simple request pointing out what their menu shows. I then pulled up the menu, waited in line again, and I showed them the menu and the mobile app which both show whip included and which you actually have to deselect it and neither has an additional fee. The woman preparing my order acknowledged that she deselected it on my behalf since I asked for oat milk. At this point - this is absolutely not about the whip cream or the upcharge, it is the abhorrent service, the aggressive demeanor, and the unexplained disdain I was shown when I treated both women with nothing but respect from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out of the establishment. ATP the woman who took my order saw the issue and was going to resolve it by, of course, adding the included whip cream! However, the manager, DJ returned and interfered refusing to allow her to do so & going on a rant directed at me when I was not at all in communication with her. Then, as she was returning my order (which included a tip btw!!) she proceeded to attempt to insult me by saying, "if you don't have 70 cents to pay for this, just say so." For the record, the tip I left was more than the 70 cents so that obviously did not land well. Throughout this dumbfounding experience, I was standing there, my voice calm, not raised, in a store full of my customers (after I patiently waited in line a second time) at 10 months pregnant. We all have bad days, but on so many levels, this cannot be acceptable at any point. To insult someone to try to win a "debate" over a non-issue in an industry where some of us remember "the customer is always right," is despicable at best. I hope someone finds a training opportunity in this, but I will not return to ever find out.

The shop does get very busy and there is not much seating. It's best to take the items to-go. There will also be a constant line, but I find my wait time start to finish is less than 10 minutes on most days. Their bagels are fresh daily and the egg and cheese bagels are packed full with freshly prepared ingredients. I've had their lox and scallion cream cheese many times and they will put 2x the amount of cream cheese to lox - you may want to request for them to go light on this if you like to have more balance. I would also say that for butter on bagel you might want to ask for it on the side. I say this only because the melted butter is everywhere inside the wrapper and can drip out. I love their iced coffee and the fact that they always have simple syrup on their self-serve station. It is a milder coffee which I enjoy.

You could taste that the dough was made with quality ingredients, and the bagel had a great texture and flavor. The interior was also nicely decorated--bright, airy, and inviting. It's a smaller space, but there's enough room to enjoy your meal. The cashier was extremely friendly, which made for a great first impression. The one thing that caught me off guard was the way the sandwich was toasted. I was asked if I wanted the sandwich toasted, and I said yes, assuming the entire sandwich would be heated. However, only the bagel was toasted--the meat and cheese were left cold. I thought that was a little odd because I was expecting a hot, toasted sandwich rather than cold cuts on a toasted bagel. That said, the sandwich was still good. On my next visit, I'm going to ask if they can toast the meat and cheese along with the bagel and then add the dressings afterward. I have a feeling that would make a big difference and could take this sandwich from a 6 to a 10 out of 10 for me. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back and trying it that way. For a first visit, Pearl's Bagels made a good impression, and I'm curious to see how the sandwich tastes when it's prepared the way I had originally expected.

That is love," Diana realizes, even as she contemplates that, soon, the misty cave floor under her feet will be beset with violence, meted out by Medusa's sisters, before Diana even gets a chance to explain that she is trespassing in the hopes of obtaining for Medusa the ultimate form of social justice: permanent chances for her to "look other soul[s] in the eyes...and be seen." The Black female ownership, the management, and the staff at Love Life Cafe, a snug coffee house nestled at 929 Washington Blvd in Laurel, Maryland, are fully aware how being seen is intertwined with social justice, kindness, and customer service. Black artists' drawings and paintings, some of which are for sale, adorn the walls, including "Wakanda Forever," featuring Chadwick Boseman, whom the world heartbreakingly lost too soon to cancer; "Say Their Names: Black Lives Matter," featuring Sandra Bland; whom her communities bitterly lost to police brutality; and, in a hope-filled change of pace, "Looking Up at Greatness," depicting two-year-old Parker Curry's recognition and wonder at seeing Amy Sherald's portrait of Michelle Obama at the National Portrait Gallery in March of 2018. I ate the sandwich when I got home and it was also very good. The chicken and sumac onions were delicious! The place has plenty seating if you want to just work and drink coffee or order full meals with friends. There is also a good size patio in the front. It's definitely a nice addition to the area.

We each got the espresso with whipped cream. Heads up, for a coffee focused place the cream was definitely out of a can. But the coffee itself was amazing. For food we got a pistachio beignet, and a chocolate and pistachio croissant. The beignet is definitely not a beignet- it was a bit more bread like, though it still tasted good. And the pistachio cream, though delicious, was so runny. The croissant was good but also had the same pistachio cream issue. It dripped out. For food I had the bacon flaming tart, which tasted amazing! One thing to note- the menu says capers, but it's scallions. That was a welcomed error, since I love scallions! And since it's officially fall, I couldn't resist adding a little pumpkin flavor to my Sunday with a pumpkin spice latte. I actually started at another restaurant that I won't name. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite meet the moment. I sat at the bar for almost 10 minutes without any acknowledgment from the bartender. I completely understand that Sundays during brunch can be busy, but a simple "Hey, I'll be right with you" would have made all the difference. So I decided to take my beautiful self to HomeGrown. ‍ And I'm glad I did! I knew it was Sunday brunch, so I expected it to be busy. Luckily, there were two open seats at the bar, and I was shown to one right away. The bar was busy, but the bartender immediately acknowledged me and let me know she'd be right with me. That small gesture was appreciated, so I happily sat back and waited. My bartender/waitress, Ashley, was friendly, attentive, and made sure everyone at the bar was taken care of. My food came out in a timely manner, and the omelet was really good! I substituted the bread for challah, and let me tell you... that was a good decision.
