The business model wants you to select from preset donut groupings. I was offered the "classic" set of six or the "party" set of six but I just wanted to grab one or two random donuts from a bunch of the different preset groupings. The cashier heard the word random and immediately rang me up for their "random grouping" which is a thing they have but it is not you picking the donuts to go into a random grab bag it is the donut topping jockey choosing them for you?! I lit a fire, grabbed a couple of Krispy Kreme donuts, and invented what I'm pretty sure is a new Southern survival cuisine: fireplace-warmed donuts. No microwave. No oven. Just good old-fashioned flames gently heating a glazed masterpiece. Let me tell you, crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside, with a subtle hint of "pioneer spirit." Absolutely delicious. To really elevate the experience, I paired it with a cup of hot chocolate loaded with an irresponsible amount of marshmallows. No power, no problem. Warm fire, warm donut, warm tummy.
