She had never been, and this tea…read moreincluded custom-blended teas (ours were caramel sea-salt & black cherry among others), and wonderful, hand-crafted pastries and tea-sandwiches. Her menu was incredible and included a sample of a number of different items including: - seafood salad croissants - fig & goat cheese sandwiches - blueberry scones with hand-made Devonshire crème - hand-dipped strawberries - berry tartlets - brie & smoked ham on baguette There were several others as well and we started our home tour on full stomachs. My boys came to be with their grandmother, and Bonnie was so sweet to them & taught them some historical, but still useful tips on etiquette (good for boys & girls)! Her home is one of the oldest in the historic section of Elizabeth city, was a stop on the underground railroad, and was home to one of the city's most famous residents as a small child (Hattie Harney). She has beautiful antiques, many from the same period as the home itself, and as a master gardener, she has amazing gardens too. She also gave us tour of some of the historic sections of the city which included the oldest school and some of the oldest churches dating to the early 1800s. This town also was a stop-over for the Wright Brothers and several presidents, which she discusses on the tour. This was just the perfect thing to show off the town to my out-of-town family. We thought the price was more than reasonable for the event & the amount of labor our hostess, Bonnie, put into preparing this for us. You can dress however you want- she has done teas for red-hatters & special occasions, so have fun! We have also used De'Tours for school trips and scouting events. She was kind enough to give us a special rate so all the children could attend and learn about their own city. She is a gem and we hope the city keeps her for a long time to come. Thanks Bonnie!

When my wife asked for assistance, the elderly employee just walked past her. I was able to get help from the younger girl leaning against the counter but to be honest, it seemed like neither of them wanted to be there or help us so we just fended for ourselves. There was a big stage to one side, but nothing happening there so the kids just sat there and waiting for us adults to finishing perusing. There are lots of alcohol and coffee options but nothing stood out as a must have so we ended up not getting anything. We were pretty hungry, but there were no food options except vending machine type food, so we were out of luck. Be sure to grab a seat inside and enjoy the nursing home quality heat levels. There are more seats available outside but the smell of the full trash cans scattered is around was rather unpleasant.

I stopped in while heading down to OBX, in search of a decent latte or frappe, and was blown away by how much more this place offers. Not only did I get a delicious Java chip frappe, but there was also live music playing, great vibes, and a surprisingly wide selection of goodies for sale. It's a cozy, small-town spot that packs everything a tourist could want. The woman running the show was doing it all, from expertly pouring drafts to crafting my frappe with care & she did it with a smile. It's rare to find a place that balances beer, coffee, charm, and community all in one. Whether you're craving a cold brew, need a break from the road, or just want to soak in some local flavor, Blue 42's Brewing Barn is the perfect pitstop.

My goal was to find a place to take my mom for tea. After some research on IG/FB and Eventbrite I…read morestumbled upon Main Street Tea House in Elizabeth City NC. They had a Mother's Day event advertised for $35 per person. This would be their final event for the season as they will be closed till fall to operate as an Air BnB. I called on the phone to make reservations, and it was quick and easy. The woman who helped me over the phone was super polite and upbeat. She ended our conversation with have a "tea of a day". I thought that was the sweetest. My mom and I arrived after a 1hr drive from the Virginia Beach area, dressed for tea complete with our fascinators (fabulous fancy tea hat). This house is an amazing site from the outside and even better on the inside. It had brick stairs leading to the entry and a wide front porch. We entered the Tea House and gasped and how beautifully decorated the inside was. To the left of us was what appeared to be the living room area of the house with a fireplace. To the right of us was another room dining room sized. Both rooms were brightly decorated with 5 tables in one room and 5-6 in the other room. Each table complete with tea settings, plates and gold plated silverware. My mom and I gasped and said at the same time how pretty everything was. After composing ourselves we went to the hostess who checked us in and took a photo of us in the foyer. We were seated at our table, there we met Alyssa our "tea-tress". This lady was the sweetest person ever. She was so pretty in her tea party appropriate clothes, complete with a tiara, like the rest of the staff. Alyssa explained everything to us, and talked to us like she knew us forever. "Our choice" of tea was included from a menu, and a classic three-tiered tray (curate) which had from the bottom up, cucumber, egg salad, and pimento cheese sandwiches on the bottom, scones in the middle, and petit fours, macarons, madeleines, and chocolate truffles from "The Bomb, Hot Cocoa Bombs & Treats" on the top tier. After giving us a quick education on the tea selection Alyssa recommended for us to start with the warm scones in the middle, that came with lemon curd & blueberry toppings which were absolutely amazing and flavorful. From there my mom and I ventured to the bottom tier for the sandwiches. I particularly enjoyed the fact that although these were cold sandwiches they weren't ice cold, as I have sensitive teeth. The cucumber sandwich was my favorite, the pimento cheese was my second favorite. The smokiness of the cheese was a delicious undertone. I settled on the lady lavender tea with curdled cream as advised by Alyssa. My mother chose the cinnamon spice decaffeinated tea with cream. They both arrived in a healthy sized personal tea pot. My mother mentioned that her tea needed no additional sweetener and that it was perfect. I decided for 2 cubes of sugar which was available at the table. We thoroughly enjoyed the tea, scones, sandwiches, and desserts. One of the best additions was a mimosa option served in a tea cup with a strawberry seated on the rim of the cup. A pleasant surprise was being satisfied from the variety of items available on the curate. We needed no extra food at all. We were even given some butter mints as a gift for having this experience at The Maine Street Tea House. We wrapped up our Mother's Day tea, and explored a tiny bit and got to learn about the house itself. I loved the photo in the foyer of the fireplace room, before the tea house was decorated and officially in business. We also enjoyed the hat wall leading to the restroom in the hallway where customers could try on hats and wear them as they enjoyed their tea time. I can't wait to come back in the fall with my daughter. Thank you Maine Street Teahouse & Alyssa for making my Mother's Day memorable with my mother.

When sipping it it doesn't even taste like there is coffee in it, much less espresso. And admittedly this is a small thing, but there was sticky caramel all over one of the sides of the cup and I sat waiting for them to come back to the window so I could ask for a napkin but they never did. My daughter got a Java chip frap and she liked it. Can't really comment on the ambiance because we were just in the drive through.

I am extremely upset about my experience at the Starbucks in downtown Elizabeth City…read more At around 7 PM, my husband ordered a decaffeinated coffee refill for me because I cannot have caffeine. It causes severe acid reflux and significant stomach problems. He asked the barista twice to confirm that the coffee was decaf, and she said yes both times. I am aware that many Starbucks stores don't keep brewed decaf available in the evening, and no alternative such as an Americano or pour-over was offered. We relied completely on the employee's assurance. After drinking the coffee, I had nonstop burping, painful bloating, and I did not sleep all night. This is the exact reaction I have when I am given regular coffee. When someone clearly explains a medical sensitivity and double-checks the order, there is no room for mistakes. Serving the wrong product in this situation is not a minor inconvenience -- it directly affects a customer's health and well-being. Starbucks needs to take this more seriously. Better training and more care are necessary so this does not happen to someone else.
