For my breakfast, I was hoping to get their oatmeal, but they were also out of that (I get it, it was after 10am) so I opted for an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. On this particular trip I tried five different coffee shops and it came down to Cafe Kubal & Recess Coffee. Both are different in comparison, not overwhelmingly good but still very worthy of a visit. My go to is the cappuccino. To me is like judging a good Italian restaurant by how good they make a lasagna. To me, Kubal might get the edge over Recess for its distinct taste, but it's close, in the end you cant go wrong with either one. I'll give Recess the nod on ambiance, much more comfy and inviting. If you are bouyei with your coffee, give Kubal a try. It's a solid option.

The chair I chose wasn't the most comfortable for an extended stay, but it got the job done. There was also some rock music playing during my visit, which helped create a casual atmosphere. I didn't order any coffee or food this time around, so I can't speak to the menu yet. This visit was more about finding a place to work and unwind for a bit. Would I come back? Yes. While I'm still searching for my go-to coffee lounge in Syracuse, Recess is definitely a spot I'd visit again. In their defense, they were busy and appeared to be understaffed for the volume of customers that were at the drive thru and the counter but that should not be the consumer's problem. The most cordial employee was Karen who had to alternate between inside and drive through orders. No one was calling out orders and they were piling up on the counter. When I inquired about which order was for me an employee stated " I don't know, it got stickers". I work in public service and also deal with the general public every day. A little politeness goes a long way; particularly when you are taking someone's hard earned money. As far as the product? My black coffee was like tea. Almost like it was the second brew on a used basket of coffee. The other coffees were flavored and the sentiment was consistent that it was weak coffee. Bagels were fine.
