Another great stop! I love to find the best doughnuts in places that I visit. Harrison Bakery was one of those stops and I was happy I was able to find it. It was about 1.5 miles from my hotel stay in Syracuse. Upon entry (see the pics), you can tell it is a business that distributes the doughnuts out. The back of the store is busy with guys packing and wheeling loads in and out of business vehicles. I ordered six doughnuts. I chose glazed and cinnamon and then told the clerk to finish it off. There was no drinks or coffee, other than skim milk, which I got. It was good because it was freezing cold. Doughnut places in Mass like to charge 2 or 3 dollars per doughnut. This was not the case at Harrison Bakery. After I entered, it seemed like the place got really busy. When I returned to my car, there were alot of vehicles in the lot than when I arrived. Great bakery with free parking in a private lot! A German immigrant named Arthur Rothfeld opened this bakery in 1949. They have half moon cookies that are very popular. Their donuts are great! I really enjoyed the peanut butter and strawberry jam donut. The peanut butter was a nice sweet coating in a donut full of high quality strawberry jam. The raspberry donut was full of really good jam too. Service was good. The manager Andrea was helpful. It's a Kosher bakery. You save 4% if paying with cash. There's no seating. read more

The cannolis were great too, just not as sweet after tasting the others and the outside could maybe be crunchier? The chocolate chip cookie was very sweet and crunchy. My experience has nothing to do with the employees. They were excellent! It was the half moons and brownies I am writing about. I ordered 6 brownies and 4 white bottom half moon cookies. I have had both of these items in the past from Harrison Bakery and both WERE delicious. The brownies were not moist, frosting was gross and not an appealing shade of chocolate. A store bought box mix is better! The half moons were stale, like they sat out for a week! The brownies used to be gooey and moist. They were to die for now! The half moons also used to be the best! I'll start with the great. The staff have always been wonderful when I've come. They always appreciate the small tip I leave them. As a Brooklyn boy I always found it odd there was no tip jar, we do things differently where I'm from. The prices for their goods is extremely good. Syracuse, take note of this and cherish your establishments. I walked out with two dozen donuts & a single danish cheese for $25. A famous national chain charges I think over $2.25 for a subpar donut. When I visit Cuse, I always stop here but this past time I feel the donuts were not as fresh as they once were, this could be very biased due to my experience and I don't go that often, the regulars will have better input in quality of the years. But what happened below is why I'm no longer stopping in. Saturday the 27th I pull into the parking lot and see a woman outside asking for change, very normal for me where I'm from. I don't say anything. I came inside to do a good deed, bring my neighbor and his children a dozen of donuts and grab a dozen for my family and an army buddy visiting from the west coast. I'm in a good mood. I never give people change, I always buy food. I decided I'll buy a cheese danish for the very thin woman outside in the cold. I add that to my order. Total $25 gave $30 and told the Wonderful Woman who took my order to keep the rest for herself. As I walk out, I offer the woman the cheese danish. She declined it. In a very rude way saying "she doesn't eat desserts". Now toots, you're in front of a damn bakery. People are more inclined to give you food as opposed to money so we don't support your clear drug habit. In Brooklyn where I'm from, the people like that still take the food, say thank you as it's still a kind gesture with good intentions and tosses it when you leave. That being said, there is no issue at this point. I say, "ok, have a good day and walk to my car". If the owner would like to review footage, it's the black 4Runner with NY disabled veteran plates. As I'm getting into my car, the same woman screams at me. Saying "bounce b-I-t-c-h" and telling me I better leave. Of course I reply with every profanity known to man and leave. The next morning I go again to take two donuts for my drive back to Brooklyn. Guess who's there? Yup the same delusional woman. Asks again for change and I tell her, "not after the way you treated me yesterday, I'll probably never give someone anything again that asks". Then she says "why does this man come here? I walk inside, order my two donuts and receive great service from the gentleman with glasses, who I gave a $1 tip to in two donuts. As I'm walking out another customer in the waking into the parking lot of course hands her a dollar. I told him my experience and he still chose too, hey it's America do what you wish. But when this broad is here every day, it's because people keep giving her money. But hey, his choice. And I'll do as I wish. I will no longer be coming to a Harrison Bakery. If they allow a delusional person to sit for hours everyday on THEIR property to accost/ harass customers, they cleary do not value us as customers to have a great peaceful experience. The donuts & Black & Whites are not that good to have to ruin my vibe. It's their property. Harrison bakery is 100% responsible of who is on their property and for what purpose. Syracuse PD will have no issue with issuing a no trespass for this person who literally stands or lays against the brick wall all day. Keep in mind. This is coming from someone who literally grew up in homeless shelters from time to time, even a bit of time at the Vera house down the road. read more

This is a cool old spot located just outside of Syracuse city. I think it's been around since the 40's. Very cool old school sign on the pursued and sliding doors to enter. This is a no frills bakery - a lot of bakeries now just try to do too much. This place knows what they're good at and they stick to it. The half-moon cookies were awesome, as were the peanut donuts. I have to go back and try more donuts and pastries. The only thing I didn't care for was the cannoli, which I think had an odd tang to it that I just didn't like. Service is good but,,, the food is Just not what they used to be. More offen than not I recieve my order and when I get it home its stail. I always go for the gigantic chocolate chip cookies. They have stopped making them which is just as well. The last couple times I ordered them they were a lot smaller and did not taste anything like what I remember. The first time I drove by this bakery I knew I needed to pop my head in and try it. I've visited three times now and it's consistently tasty. The big red signs screams "come try me!" and if you do -- you won't be disappointed! Located right in front of the basílica and a bus stop, they still manage to have a pretty big parking lot for their customers which I greatly appreciate. There always seems to be some foot traffic when I visit so you know this place is a local gem. Mask or vaccine is of course required to keep everyone safe and the glass cases keep the pastries safe from human germs. So far I've tried their half moon cookies, donuts, croissants, and cannolis. Harrison's Bakery is a Syracuse institution. I decided to stop in at random one Sunday for a sweet treat a while back. The options were a little overwhelming; there were about five large glass cases, all of which were fully stocked during my late afternoon visits. Normally, I'd take my time browsing and deciding, but given the circumstances, I didn't want to linger. There were other customers in the bakery, but everyone was wary of distance, and newcomers respectfully waited outside. The staff was all appropriately masked and gloved, and was also very nice. I opted for a chocolate whoopie pie and a Boston creme donut. Both were delicious. The whoopie pie was especially soft, and the donut was decadent. Looking back at my photos, I now realize that I overlooked the cream puffs- will definitely have to swing back around sometime to give those a whirl! read more

I called to order a cake that was listed on the website and they said it was no longer made. They did say I could order a different cake made of what was liked so I did. I arranged for pick up one week in advance. When I arrived, they said it wasn't ready but would be in 20 minutes. When I got the cake home, it was kind of frozen. We happened to be in Syracuse early in the morning and thought it would be great to find a bakery to pick-up a treat for ourselves. Found Harrison via Yelp and stopped in. OMG.... we only regret not buying more. We had no idea what a fantastic place we had stumbled upon. Every thing... I mean every one of the six treats we bought for the two of us(?) were amazing. Most surprising was the Prune filled roll- perfect. Not to sweet, not greasy or overly sweet. Although the poppyseed roll was also pretty damn tasty. The half moon cookies that were advertised on a sign in the front of building were indeed one of the best I have ever eaten. Even luckier, we were there while the St Patty day Green and White half moons were available. I was in Syracuse for 3 days and stopped by Harrisons twice in those 3 days. They had a wide variety of baked goods but I ended up getting the halfmoons & headlight donuts. Halfmoons ($1.15/each): 3/5 Although very good, it wasn't the type of black&white cookie I prefer. I like the ones that have the white frosting like shellac & fudgy chocolate frosting. Both the white&black frosting were light & creamy which is delicious just not my preference. They have halfmoons with both vanilla & chocolate cake. Headlight donuts ($0.85/each): 4.5/5 All the donuts were super duper well filled. If you like light yeast-y krispykreme like donuts you might not like it! But I LOVED the texture of the donuts. It was light & had a slight chew to it and had enough structure to hold all the filling. I tried the boston cream donut, raspberry jelly w/powder sugar, and the pb&j donut. The only miss was the peanut butter frosting that didnt have enough peanut taste. But otherwise the donuts were perfect. The jams are definitely made inhouse and was slightly seed-y unlike the artificial goo you might get at other donut places. read more

He was struggling a bit, working through his order and paying. The staff were so sweet and supportive. Harrison bakery is a great deal and a treat for anyone looking for sweets. I was introduced to them by a coworker who loves their brownies. Walking into the bakery you might think it's a bit run down. Yes, the decor is not great but they are all business. Donuts are all good, brownies are addictive, and the half moons are exactly as they were voted. Prices are better than mainstream stores and the people working are down to earth. Why just 4 stars? Driving around Syracuse it's easy to spot the Harrison Bakery sign driving down Genesee Street. It's distinctive and eye catching - so our family pulled over to go explore the offerings of the bakery. Wow, are we glad we stopped! What a spread! This bakery offers such a variety of bread, cookies, cakes, and danishes, and donuts, and seasonal delights...! We were very impressed even before we got to placing an order. We ordered half moons (DO ITTTT), donuts, and danishes. Absolutely everything we ordered was amazing. Particularly the half moons. They're nothing like black and white cookies of other parts of the state. These are light and airy, with a great crumb. The frosting is just the right amount of extra sweet on top of the delicate cookie. This Friday when we visited, there was a steady stream of people coming in and out of the bakery, so there was always a parking spot available. I can't wait to go again!
