I was recommended Hall's by a Danville local and swung by after my hair appointment. The girls…read moreinside were sweet and they still had quite the selection even in the afternoon. I bought a pack of dinner rolls, donuts, mini chocolate chess pies and a snickerdoodle cookie sandwich. The store was clean, organized, and easy to navigate. The stars of the show were the dinner rolls. I could tell when I picked up the bag that they were going to be legit. The perfect yeast roll. 12 for 4.99 and totally worth it. Unfortunately I did not snap a picture of these, but the donuts that were a gift also got a rave review. Will most definitely be back when I return to Danville.

The carrot cake I ordered was not decorated the way I requested (picture was provided). To the WORST carrot cake ever! I wouldn't even call the carrot cake "carrot cake" because there is NO carrot in it, it was more like a spice cake from a box and the cream cheese icing...oy! The donut cake...waaay too sweet and somewhat stale. Both cakes barely got eaten and in the TRASH they went! I definitely will not be going back and I would not recommend Hall's Pastry Shop to anyone.

An adorable place for a good burger!…read more I got the Virginia Woolf and wowza the black bean patty was 10/10! I love a homemade black bean burger that doesn't have corn. The fries were a 11/10 - perfectly hot, perfectly seasoned. The restaurant itself was small but plenty of outdoor and dog-friendly seating. The servers were all very attentive and it was the perfect spot for us to grab a lunch. Would've taken photos but I couldn't help but dig in when it came out!

We sat outside and enjoyed the scenery. It is a beautiful location right next to the River District. There's a lovely park, splash pad, and playground right along the Dan River. We were so stoked to eat right there. The interior of the restaurant was so fun. We loved the decorations. Books everywhere! The server was ok at first. But when we were done, I did not like how she presented me the check. She just quickly flashed me an amount on a screen, and then hid the screen. I asked if I could pay cash and she accepted it but did not bring me a check even then. We ordered 3 burgers that sounded really good. Such a disappointment. The burger meat in each was shaped perfectly and was as hard as a hockey puck. They appeared to be cooked medium but the meat was tough and gristly. I have no idea how they got all the burgers the exact, uniform hockey puck shape. They must be like those frozen ones you can get at Costco. But $17.95 for a frozen hockey puck? At one point, while my kids were telling me how gross the patties were, while my husband and I told them they had to eat them to go play on the playground, I flagged the server down and asked what type of meat it was. She said beef. However, it did not taste like beef. Thank goodness for all the toppings because if they were plain burgers, they would have been inedible. We were so hungry though so we ate what we could. Notably, the buns also tasted cheap like they had just come out of a stale grocery store deli bag. The seasoned fries, sweet potato fries, the homemade ranch and ketchup, and salad with homemade vinaigrette were ok. After we left, I added up what we ordered again and realized she must have charged me an extra $12 to swap out a veggie patty for a beef patty. I was not told there would be an upcharge so felt a little swindled, especially with how she presented the check. I wish I had kept the veggie patty though, because it probably would have been better. Also my kid who had said the burgers were so gross puked right after we left and immediately felt much better and enjoyed 2 hours on the playground. My other kid was jealous of the other one puking. Like you can't make this kind of stuff up. This spot has so much potential. I would honestly hope to visit again just to chill outside but would not ever eat the burgers.

There is so much they offer. As far as eating they have Breakfast (smoked salmon bagel!), hot if cold sandwiches (the Jezabel ham!), salads (green ones but I love chicken salad), specialty pizzas (Neapolitan Nod!), and charcuterie boards! Then there is an extensive selection of teas, espresso based drinks, and wines (white, red, or sparking). You can enjoy a glass or a bottle. I've been to my share of coffee shops where the espresso based drinks either tasted burned or were so sugary you feel a diabetic coma upcoming. Not so here. Theirs are perfection with perfect balance of strong and sweet if you like flavors. Then there's a rotating bit of seasonal syrups and house-curated drink options. My favorite is the atmosphere. Couches and comfy large armed chairs, great art, tables outside, what's not to love? The owners take such pride in their shop. They keep it clean, always have a smile and kind word, and make sure their staff has that same spirit. This places puts the best out there for Danville.

The breakfast menu did not have much for me, but I was happy that I settled on a texturally intriguing apple crumble cake and paired it with a contrasting vegetal tea, which came loose leaf and ready to steep. Service was on the only slow side with only one person, presumably the owner, working. It was the sort of place where many would come for ambiance and sit a while.
