I've been to Ballad a few times while visiting family in N.C., I love this place. Every visit has provided a laid back, friendly experience and is exactly what I'm looking for. My only complaint is that they're so far from home. The layout of the tasting room is welcoming, spacious and has a warm charm due to the fact that it's an old tobacco warehouse. There is ample room to move about, corn hole games and other types of party games available. I've seen some live music and partaken in some very good food-truck meals. There is ample parking and it is set in the old time industrial district of Danville. Another hit is the outdoor seating area with gas fire pits. The atmosphere is very calm and unpretentious. A definite plus! Can't forget the beers- I love their IPA's and have tasted the Ales- both very tasty, not heavy, extremely drinkable and fresh. Another beer that was great was the cask brewed stout. If I lived 600 miles closer I would be a regular here, great beer and well thought out decorating make this place a winner! Keep up the good work, I hope you're here when I transplant myself to the area. Until then I'll be a frequent visitor- I'll be back in 5 days! read more

Enjoyed this spot! Some friends and I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded (more people were coming in when we left). It's a pretty large spot in one of the historic mill buildings. They kept a lot of the industrial brick and hardwood floors, but added some pretty light fixtures and plenty of seating (at the bar, tables, a few couches and plush chairs). There's a corner with dart boards and a shuffleboard as well. They have a pretty large beer selection. I would've missed the second menu board had the employee not told me. I went with a flight and enjoyed all of them except the wheat (probably more of a me thing than the beer not being good). Chill vibe in an attractive space and decent beer. Just tried the Kolsh from Wegmans and it was absolutely horrible. Shame because I love a good Kolsh.

We went here today for a wedding reception. It was a beautiful place but they were not serving food here. They were selling beer and had free bottle water for the guests. I never made it to the bar area so I can't say anything about the service. It was my cousins wedding reception and they had pizza delivered and they had a cake. If you're a drinker this is your kind of place. Not a place for me due to me not being a drinker but it was a beautiful restored old building. No parking in front of the building. read more

So I guess they just got bought out recently and some of the things I loved before have changed but overall I still love it here. The beer selection is big with great pricing and size options. It's nice that there is a large indoor and outdoor space with cornhole and arcade games. I've heard they have food trucks but I personally have never been when there's been one. They do host events like bingo and do live music which is very cool. They also allow dogs INSIDE, which is amazing so you can stay cool! Absolutely LOVED our experience at Ballad! 3 of us total came and each ordered flights of 4 beers. My personal faves were the Snickerdoodle and the Fast Mail. We loved the energy, cleanliness, decor, games, and service! We also came on small business Saturday and each received a complementary BB" beer glass. We felt so welcomed with the LGBTQ+ flag hanging and I loved how the women's bathroom had a discreet code that you could use for help if you ever felt endangered by a date or anything. This place is amazing. I was blown away the second I walked in and had to ask what this place used to be. It turns out that this was an old tobacco warehouse and was left abandoned when the industry started using forklifts that the wood floor couldn't support. Great beer, nice, knowledgeable staff, and awesome venue. So much so, that my fiancé and I want our rehearsal dinner here. read more

They're brewing excellent beer and they have a super friendly and attentive staff. However, the thing I probably liked the most was the little glimpses of civic responsibility and inclusivity that I noticed. They were handing out coasters advertising a suicide awareness walk, they had a visible pride flag hanging up, and in the ladies room they have signs posted on how they can help if you are in an uncomfortable or unsafe situation on a date. Kudos to them for making fantastic beer and tackling social issues at the same time. Bravo! read more

Very cool spot and so happy Danville is changing for the better. Our only problem with this place was the ridiculously rude food cart guy out back. There was no reason to be such an ass when no one else was even there to order food him. We were there on Saturday 11/17 and he ruined our experience at this cool brewery. I live in NYC but I'm pretty sure my mom who works down the street won't recommend this place because he was such a douche. I think this place has awesome potential, big room, great beers, fun games... just please get better food venders for a place that deserves better! read more

This place should be sued for blatant abuse of logical cognizance. Plus their IPAs suck. Despite a 5,000 square foot dining area with a total of 8 tables and enough room to house a derrigible, they fear COVID so much as to nix all dart playing. This includes those dart enthusiasts with the foresight to bring their own darts. Somehow it is still acceptable for a gaggle of children to mob the pinball machines. Ballad is one of my wife's favorite beer breweries in Virginia. She especially likes the sour selection. We came to the brewery in April and had a blast so we came here last night and spent the night in Danville so we could drink more and walk back to the hotel. Both times that we have been here it wasn't very crowded which I think is odd because the brewery is super cool. The staff are very knowledgeable and courteous. There is a huge selection of different beers to choose from. There is indoor/outdoor seating, pets are welcome, and lots of games to play as well. The best part is a regulation shuffleboard table which is super fun. We live near Richmond so it's a couple hour drive which sucks because otherwise we would be here a lot more. read more

Came here on opening night to find a great new addition to the Danville River District. They have both outdoor and indoor. The indoor seating area is massive with tons of open space, various type of seating, and will probably be good for bands in the future. The outdoor seat area is in between building and is nice but felt kinda cramped. They had so many different types of home-brewed craft beer that were quite delicious. Unfortunately they don't serve any food so don't come hungry for anything besides beer. Good atmosphere. Good place. Recommend stopping in. read more

We use to go often. But the beer selection can be hit or miss. Wish there was a way of knowing when a favorite will return or if it is a one and done. Gets a little old settling for a beer and then standing around to drink it because there isn't enough seating for crowd size, especially when so much is reserved for groups, which is nice for Ballad but not for customers. It's great that everyone wants to bring their dogs and their kids, but on a Friday or Saturday night it can be a bit much. read more

Talk about a cool place! Ballad is a fantastic place for young adults to congregate and enjoy delicious craft beer. There is indoor and outdoor seating, though I must say I am partial to the outdoor seating on a warm summer night. There are fire pits, cornhole, and an outdoor bar on the side deck, not to mention there's usually a food truck in the alley as well. What more could you ask for? The inside is great, too. Lots of seating and lots of entertainment. Darts, shuffleboard, giant jenga, giant connect four, live music... this place is a dream! One of my favorite parts of the River District. read more

One of the best places in Danville to hangout in general, whether you're passing through or a local. The old warehouse that the brewery and taproom are housed in is splendid and does well in creating an exceptional environment for any age. Their rotating draught selection always seems to have a beer for everyone. Personally I feel like they seem to thrive in the making of their IPAs, however, each one of their beers could be potentially award winning. Awesome venue, good beer. I love these historic industrial areas getting a second life! Stopped in on a Thursday afternoon and it was a little quiet. The bartenders were nice and welcoming. Tried the Pilsner and Ginger Lime Sour. Both were really good. There's a great patio area with fire pits that would be great on a nice spring/summer evening. Inside is really spacious and with pub games (giant connect four, cornhole, shuffle board). I did knock a star off because parking isn't great. You have to park around the corner or across the street with no close cross walks... but don't let that deter you! read more

Not impressed! Warm beer and nothing else. Asked for water and received room temperature tap water with no ice. I probably would have liked it more if the beer was chilled and there was something else cold to drink. Another thing that struck me as odd was that there were toddlers running around. Danville's newest brewery will wow you from the minute you walk in the door to the last drop of beer nectar crosses your tongue. The atmosphere is minimalistic but very appealing as well. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The beer styles are hop forward but they have plenty of stuff for the malt lover as well. They have a full time cask program and a nice selection of anchor brews that are complimented with a vast array of rotating seasonal and special release brews. You'll also find a great patio outside for bringing Fido along for a brew. The indoor seating is comfortable and they have a 20' tournament style shuffle board table to enjoy as well. If you're lucky you might be able to talk to John the head brewer or Eric a BJCP Beer Judge that's on staff there and will pour your beer and give you a history lesson on the style if you're so inclined. Give it a shot you won't be disappointed. read more
