I always love supporting Veteran-Owned Businesses, especially breweries! Came across this incredible unassuming vet-owned brewery in Graham, NC and was so pleasantly surprised at the caliber of beers offered! The space was small and quaint and welcoming with a great patio area and a plant-strewn indoor seating area, and the beertender was so patient with our group and engaging when explaining the beers. The flight was absolutely incredible, with each beer a magnificent interpretation and representation of the beer style. Highly recommend stopping in whether you're in the area, or want to make a roadtrip. I have several brewery lists that I go off of to obtain craft brewery experiences from different breweries. Forgotten Road was one of them. I got one of their Day Patrol beers. There are lots of variations on flavor with this beer and in this case I got the Peach, Tangerine and Vanilla combination. The flavor style is of the sour beer style. All in all not a bad beer experience with this beer but a bit too sweet. I can't speak for the other flavor variations but in my mind this particular beer would be perfect in smaller quantity instead of a pint. Anything from a taster, schooner or half pint would reduce the heaviness of the sugar rather than a full pint which for me could get tedious. read more

The best description I have for this spot is sitting in your backyard with a cold brew. I wasn't there too long, but the vibe indoors (super hot that day) seemed very relaxed. The bartenders were helpful and friendly. I chose a smoothie sour ale that was thick with apricot and every berry under the sun. It smelled a little funny, but tasted good (the most important part). There is not much room inside so check out the patio in the back. There are a few picnic tables that were either under the overhang or had umbrellas. Large Adirondack chairs were scattered on the rest of the patio and in a grassy area. They grow their own hops and you can see long vines with green hops hanging from where they're strung up. I think it would be really charming to catch up with friends or enjoy a date out back with the string lights glowing. read more

It's good to have friends in high places, especially when that involves owning a brewery. Those friends are Ben and Janée who own Forgotten Road Ales, which is a gem in downtown Graham. They are some seriously cool, down to earth folks that know how to make great beer! The tap room is fairly small yet cozy. Their brick and mortar storefront is complimented by their expansive beer garden out back! There's plenty of lounge chairs and picnic tables for whatever your party's needs may be. I just love how lush it is with all the plants. They're even in the process of growing their own hops! Hell yeah, sustainability!! The specialties at FRA are IPAs and sours. Personally I always opt for an IPA, and they are always so good! Citra Sunshine is a favorite of mine, but on my most recent visit I ordered the Things we Don't Say NE IPA. It was so deliciously smooth and citrusy. As they say haziness is indeed next to godliness. They also have the cutest bar dog ever named Mac!! You can even take his semblance home with you on some of the FRA merchandise. They have lots of options from t-shirts to hats to glassware to bandanas for your pooch. Porter tastes great! The wifey got a red Pinot noir and that's a great thing because that helped get me a second serving since she wasn't in a beer mood and I sooo needed a beer. Graham is lucky to have this Brewery. Forgotten Road Ales is a new brewery but already making waves in some of my social media beer circles. Naturally I had to check them out. Their specialty is sour beers and they do a really nice job. I tried a flight of four and I really enjoyed each beer. I thought the blackberry cherry lime sour ale would have too much going on it but it ended up being my favorite. The brewer is a real beer geek and a true pleasure talking with about beer. Great place... here's why: Love what they did with both the inside and outside of the venue. It's smaller, but it's also a brewery and it is clear that's what they were going for. It's a nice spot to have a beer or two and just hang out. One of my biggest complaints about some breweries is that it gets so loud. And that is the beauty of having a smaller place. It fits in well with the small community vibe of Graham, too. As for the actual beer itself, it is top notch and I am confident it'll continue to get even better. I like the fact that they are focusing on just a few offerings instead of trying to cater to every single palate. Too often breweries churn out so many beers and do not take the time to craft a great product. You will not find 20 different beers on tap here, and that is a good sign if you're a craft beer fan such as myself. I would definitely put it up in the top tier of beer in North Carolina with the big names such as Bond Brothers, Burial, New Anthem, Wilmington Beer Co, Trophy just to name a few. Specifically, New England IPAs are my favorite type of craft beer, and this place is making as good of stuff as anyone in the state in this category. Lastly, the people. Very nice and welcoming, will chat with you and answer any questions you have about the beer, the origins/ideas of the brewery, etc. They definitely make you want to come back. We drove out from Southpoint to Saxapahaw on Martin Luther King, Jr. day Wanted to go to Steve's Garden Market for dinner on the way back --but found they weren't reopening until 5 p.m. Not much open due to holiday -- someone said there was a brewery not far away. Now, we're actually not big beer afficionados -- we tend to drink wine. But we popped in. Unattractive side street. Unattracive building. One dark room -- not exactly welcoming -- with a strong beer smell (hey, I said we're not brewery types!) One guy serving -- very pleasant. About 12 people in the small space with high tables and a small bar. I'd say the patrons were a mixed group and I'd say they were focused on the quality of the beer, not on drinking large quantities of it -- calm, civil, not rowdy. I guess that could change from hour to hour -- but if I were a single woman, I wouldn't have been uncomfortable going in yesterday later afternoon. I ordered their porter -- really liked it. My husband ordered their "blonde" -- and surprised the hell out of me by carrying out 4 cans. Said he thought it was one of the best beers he'd ever had. Little treasure. We'll be back! read more

A new brewery in my stomping grounds. Boy was I excited. And with a military theme? I had some high expectations. Maybe too high. Located in an old gas station one block off main just out of the square in Graham. Very small place. Still looks like a gas station from the outside. Inside is small, but clean. Anyway.. there were a few people here, a couple babys and a dog. You could barely move in here. The service. Slow and unengaging. The beer. 4 bandwagon NE IPA's right off the bat. 3 sour ales. A saison, and a wit. I didn't find any one of them even pint worthy. They were all dry, and just not well crafted. The other patrons were not very friendly. I didnt feel welcome here at all. Even after 3 new breweries here in Alamance, they STILL need a brewery. read more

One of THE best breweries in the Triad! No doubt about it. If you can't find something here that you don't like, then you're not a craft beer drinker. Wide variety of styles - NEIPA's, Sours, a Saison, and a Stout. Some of their beers even have a story behind the name (Noodles on My Roommate)! The conversation and interaction between brewery staff (which happen to be the owners) is fantastic and like no other. Love the small town feel, which makes sense as to why Graham was chosen as the location. Veteran owned business is a huge plus in my books, also. Not only are they Veteran owned, but a certain percentage of sales goes to helping PTSD and helping to improve that situation for our Veteran community. A cozy and quaint taproom awaits you with the owners and brewer at the helm.
