The staff is absolutely accommodating to such a degree that they met my dietary needs as well as our waiter, made a particular sauce because the chefs didn't have that on hand. We started with the buffalo chicken egg rolls. They are a mild to medium heat and come with ranch. They are so good!! We decided to get the chicken pesto and filet entrees and split them. For starters the risotto and broccolini is so good it melts in your mouth. The chicken pesto is cooked perfectly and very moist. It's stuffed with cheese and pesto which is flavored nicely. Now the steak. OMG!!! The steak was better than Ruth Chris!! It was cooked medium and came perfect!! The au jus sauce that came with it rocked my taste buds!! I dipped everything in it. The fried okra was absolutely the best I've ever had. The mashed potatoes were good also. Needless to say the $51 dollar steak meal was delicious and absolutely worth it!! We appreciate Ashley for serving us and offering recommendations for our next visit. She also made our Golden Rum Punch and Mistletoe Martini. Great little spot in river district with lots of in street parking and easy to get to. There's a bar with high tops, dining booths, and several rooms with tables. There's even one room with a rather large table that could accommodate large parties. They do have outdoor seating as well. We had the orange cream martini. Very tasty, but would recommend getting this as a dessert drink. They do have a great cocktail menu. We were there for lunch so had a limited menu versus the dinner menu. Ordered the shrimp egg rolls - get these! Also a chicken sandwich w/bacon sweet potato fries and a wedge salad with grilled chicken. Both were good. The wedge salad had tons of chicken and it also has candies walnuts. The prices are reasonable for what you are getting as the food is fresh and the quality is good. The service was terrific!! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. Our water glasses were never empty. They did have a sign that they won for the areas best cocktails and desserts. So, asked to see the sugar tray and boy... what a selection!!! We didn't order but I would highly suggest saving room or getting a few of these to go. read more

We went on a Saturday night and had a 40 minute wait and let's just say, the food was definitely worth the wait. They also had live music which was nice. The food was amazing. I got the burger with fries and when I say that Burger was perfectly seasoned! I also got a couple of cocktails (the Butterscotch White Russian was so delicious), the bartenders did an amazing job and the waitress was a sweetheart. My husband got the scallops. When he got the plate, he thought it wasn't going to be enough to fill him up but after eating 4 of them, he did not need to order anything additional. Oh and I can't forget the large selection of desserts. I got the Strawberry cake, the icing on that cake was soo good. I will definitely recommend and will be returning. read more

From the moment we sat down, the customer service stood out Eddie took care of us while being trained by AJ, and they both were friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We started with the Parmesan truffle fries crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. My only wish? That the cheese would've stuck to the fries a bit better. The mini biscuits were chef's kiss! Light, buttery, and paired perfectly with the strawberry jam..honestly, I could've eaten 20 of them. My partner had an omelette with sweet potato fries, both cooked to perfection. I went with the berry salad, and it was so fresh and flavorful! The spinach was crisp, the strawberries and blueberries were clearly in season, and the homemade vinaigrette brought everything together beautifully. My only note would be that the feta was a bit heavy-handed, but not enough to take away from how good the salad was overall. Overall I enjoyed my time at Golden Leaf Bistro. First impression wasn't off to a great start, upon entering I asked for a table for one. The hostess pushed me into sitting in the bar area, I kind of just wanted eat in private and was sat directly in the front of the restaurant at a high top next to another couple in the bar, despite numerous open tables throughout the restaurant. My server/bartender was super friendly and quick with drinks. She notified me that it would take an additional few minutes for my salad -which was appreciated. Not all servers keep you posted and it was nice having an update so I wasn't wondering. The food was decent. I felt like the salad was a little sloppily made, but the flavors were there and I enjoyed it! Ambiance was nice! The restaurant had a homey feel to it and looked very clean. Overall I'd recommend a stop to Golden Leaf if you find yourself in the Danville area. read more

Unfortunately my food pic disappeared-weird-but it is truly lost. Unfortunate because it was a mighty dove Reuben and onion rings to rival the best. Fluffy Russian bread and the absolute nicest, lean meat I've ever had on what is one of my favorite sandwiches. I'm always excited when I see onion rings on the menu and these seem to be made in house and were the perfect size and stayed together when I was eating them. Nothing worse imo than the tiny shredded onion rings or the monstrous ones that fall apart. Anyhoo--great, solid lunch at a fair price. The craft cocktail menu was tempting but it was 11am and I was in town for work so I didn't partake. Next time I will plan better! The decor is tastefully done pointing back to the tobacco history of the area and a few pretty rustic Indian inspired features and authentic English pub signs. I was with a friend that grew up in Danville and he told me about the door sign, a club where he used to hang out in his youth. Service was good but a bit much. I can only guess perhaps the waitress is new to the job but she came to our table entirely too much. That's a training issue and I won't call her out here because was truly a sweet girl but let folks have their time alone and a two minute check back and perhaps one more is plenty. And please do not ask about dessert when we are only halfway through our sandwiches. Again, not a gripe but it was annoying and it was hard to have a quality experience with so many interruptions every few minutes. I'll be bringing my husband back next time. LARGE PARTIES BEWARE: My family reserved their large room space ($200) and were informed that we exceeded the capacity of the room (20ppl) shortly after arrival. Understandably so, the manager came in to address this with us and while my issue isn't with that, it was with her delivery and lack of professionalism. She walked in and made a very loud and rude announcement to the entire room including "we can't serve all of yall and that this is just too much" and vented her frustrations to the room. As such, several in our party gracefully bowed out from the lunch and cleared space. As that was happening, it was mentioned to her in a side conversation that this could have been handled more professionally and this ended with her stating she was calling the police and that we could just go which was completely unwarranted. There was no yelling, no arguing, and the police were called. I'm not in Danville often but I am a native and I was really excited to experience a lot of the new businesses in the area. This was an unfortunate experience and I just hope situations like this are handled more tactfully and respectfully in the future - even down to offering to split up a large party such as this because the restaurant was fairly empty. Again, nearly ANYTHING would've been better here. P.S. the two waiters we had were excellent, sweet, and patient. They seemed very accommodating, apologetic, and compassionate and her behavior was completely separate from my experience with them! read more

I visited Golden Leaf Bistro in Danville Va, for lunch today, treating myself because I love me some me. I ordered sweet potato fries and the grilled fish sandwich special. Unfortunately, I never got the fish sandwich. I was served a hamburger instead. When I pointed it out, the waitress apologized. Since I was already hungry and ready to eat, I decided to just try the burger anyway. After only two bites, I found a long strand of hair in my food. At that point, I was completely done. I showed the waitress, and she apologized again and said she would speak to the manager. The disappointing part is the manager never came out to apologize or address the situation personally. I was later told that $16 dollars was taken off my bill of $50.94 total, but honestly, there should not have been a bill at all after an experience like that. A complimentary meal and even a small gesture like a gift card would have shown real customer care. Come on Golden Leaf Bistro- we have to do better than this. Times may be hard, but good customer service and basic food standards should never be optional. One free meal would not shut the business down, but handling the situation properly could have kept a customer returning. VERY DISAPPOINTING read more

I visited the Gold Leaf Bistro for lunch today. It had been several years since I had gone there to eat. I was disappointed in what I found. We both ordered the Bourbon Roast Beef Hogie with fries. A long time elapsed between getting there, having our order taken and and another long wait for our food. Two other solo diners came in after us, (they had different servers) both sat in booths across from us, ate and left the restaurant before we had our food served. I found our plates to be skimpy. There was very little roast beef, and did not cover the sandwich from end to end... also the serving of fries was small. I did not like the taste of my roast beef, it was much too sweet! This place was super interesting, in a really old building right down town. We were quickly seated and well taken care of all night. I started with dessert and got the peanut butter pie and it was SO GOOD. I ate the whole thing. We got a couple appetizers, all super delicious, and then I split the chicken with a coworker. They split the plates for us prior so we each got our own and it was the perfect amount. The chicken was SO GOOD. Definitely a good experience. This is one of the few places we return to when in town for IMSA weekend and they always treat us very well. We had a big party and they were able to give us our own private room. I was initially concerned that we only had one waitress, but she was great; handled our entire group with ease. Food took a little longer, but I fully understand serving a large crowd means a wait. Ordered the garden salad and stuffed chicken for my meal. Was pretty disappointed with the salad; for $9, not exactly a good deal for a very basic small salad. The balsamic dressing was great, but not enough veggies since I had a pool of dressing leftover. I rarely order chicken when going out, but the stuffed chicken was pretty tasty and a good portion. A little overcooked, but had pretty good flavor. I really liked the grilled broccolini. Too full to order dessert, but they seemed to have a good selection. For entrees I went with the traditional chicken and waffles spruced up with their house made fruit jam -- the bar has been RAISED! That bite was absolutely lucious with Belgian waffle, chicken, maple syrup, and the jam. My husband went with the brunch burger and when we tell y'all it was so savory and flavorful - just wow. Another burger that has shocked us in a good way and that we don't mind ordering every time we revisit (and we will). This place is still mediocre....we decided to give it another try.......We came here for brunch, the food tasted pretty bad, soggy French toast, floppy bacon, dried up cooked to death omelette, cold hash browns. It almost like they prepared food and let it sit under a warmer. We got the appetizer of the scones, only had blueberry and some type of cream cheese that was awful, scones were hard as a rock. The drinks from the bar were top notch!! Only thing that was good was the bartender and waiter. AGAIN I do not recommend this place. Highly Disappointed!!!! Prices are HIGH! We booked a private room for brunch for our family reunion. We had to pay $200 to reserve the room not including everyone paying for their tan. We were not told that there would be a limited menu for reserving the room. The manager on duty came in upset because we asked her to a 3 more chairs bc we booked the whole room and more family decided to come. Best plate of food I have put in my mouth in a long time! I have been here before, and it was fine. But never really worth the cost...Until today. I stopped coming here for a while, but decided to come back tonight due to a rare free night. Not disappointed! I sat at the bar and enjoyed a dirty martini with my delicious fried oyster appetizer. The bartender was friendly, energetic, and attentive. After that, I had the filet with garlic mashed potatoes and Brussels. I don't know what magic the chef did to that plate of food, but it was all absolutely delectable! The filet was cooked a PERFECT medium rare with a side of bacon jam. I have no idea what bacon jam is, but it was from another universe. The potatoes and Brussels were perfect and worked together like a tapestry of flavors in my mouth. With dinner, I had a glass of Malbec. For dessert, I enjoyed a beautiful crème brûlée. Amazing. The ambiance was peaceful and inviting and comfortable. I am leaving here stuffed and completely satisfied. I might go back tomorrow! read more
