We ordered the fried green tomato special of the day, which came with burrata and salad. It was incredible. My partner ordered the catch of the day, which was blackened swordfish with risotto. He loved it! I ordered the mahi mahi BLT. They were extremely generous with their portion size for the fish, bacon, and especially the fries. The ambiance is very nice! Inside had plenty of space for folks to be seated without being crowded, but it was never too loud. They have bar seating, tables, and outdoor dining. The art is locally sourced. I signed up for their waitlist to get a reservation, and it worked! I was able to snag one. Thankfully I did, since they were busy and had a wait for over an hour for walk ins. Highly recommend planning ahead! If you end up waiting, they have several places for you to wait including outside in the shade with some games and seating area.

The parking lot was packed, and we were told the wait would be 30-45 minutes ... but we were seated in less than 10 minutes! The restaurant is beautiful and classy, and the menu had so many things that sounded phenomenal. Prices were a little higher than we wanted to spend that evening, so we opted for sandwiches. A cheeseburger for my husband and a chicken sandwich for me. His came with fries, while I chose the rice and beans. Our food took at least 30 minutes, and we were told the kitchen was having trouble keeping up. The presentation wasn't particularly photo-worthy, but those rice and beans were off the charts! I could eat them every day. They had such a unique flavor. I couldn't quite figure out what was in them, but I suspect there may have been a hint of nutmeg. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive until we were nearly finished. It did take quite a while to get our check and payment processed. I'd definitely return. There were so many appetizers, drinks, and desserts I wanted to try. Next time, I'd be prepared to spend a little more!

It was a sunday evening and naturally every other restaurant in nags head was full. This place was…read moreempty. It was dark and everything was sticky, the tables, the floor, the chairs. They were accommodating for a large party so that was a plus. Ordering took about 30 mins to get out our food, there was a mix up with the ticketing but it was resolved. My order was unimpressive, it was like a small paddy sitting in cheezewhiz, my bun was burnt, and fries were greasy soggy, the other order was the fish, and that was probably the best thing to order, it was crispy and tasteful. the wings were decent, a little light on the sauce but palatable. they only had diet drinks in, and had very few choices. i really felt the price was not justified for the price and service. Our server was polite but slow, and 3 of the other orders were forgotten because the cook thought they were the same... that's what we were told, so it took a while longer for the rest of the order to come out. Most likely won't be coming back.

I woke up...and had a delicious time! The reviews here tell you how great this place is, and well...believe them! I thought for sure it would be over-hyped and not live up to what people write and say, but I will admit to being wrong. First, our server, Krickett, was agreed upon (by my partner and I) to be the best server we have ever had. She was friendly, outgoing, had good recommendations, and an all-around joy. Second, the food! Wow! My partner had a salad...simple enough, right? But no, she was amazed by it. And she is a vegetarian, so she has had a lot of salads over the years. This one blew her away. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Was it life-changing? No. But it was way better than what a grilled chicken sandwich normally is. It was tender, juicy, with just the right seasoning. I would be a criminal if I didn't mention the bruschetta...get it with the burrata...it is worth it! The crispy bread with balsamic drizzle is good enough with the diced tomato mix, but the cheese gives it a new level. And, I hope you saved room for dessert, because the key lime pie was a mouth explosion.

The restaurant has two distinct dining areas: the front section is first-come first-served bar seating that offers the full menu. The back section, which would be ideal for families, holds about 30 tables, mostly booths, with the hostess stand. We chose to sit at the bar and had a great experience. We started with bruschetta topped with burrata cheese. I ordered the angel hair pasta in a white garlic butter, cream sauce with marinated chicken and grilled vegetables. My husband ordered the special hamburger with Swiss cheese bacon, spinach and mayo with a side of fries. We ended with slices of the key lime pie that didn't disappoint! The food, service, staff and environment were exceptional! We overheard the Server mention that veterans receive complementary meals on Veterans Day, which speaks volumes about how this restaurant supports those who have served. If you are in the Outer Banks- whether you're staying in Kill Devil Hills or nearby- this restaurant is worth the drive and all the hype!

Food Dudes Kitchen was close to where we were staying, so we decided to give it a try. It's a small restaurant with limited seating and was fairly quiet when we arrived, but it filled up quickly after we sat down. We ordered the fish tacos and pork tacos. The fish tacos were very good and paired especially well with the slaw. Both entrées came with black beans and rice, which were fine. Our waitress was very nice and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, a convenient and enjoyable spot for a casual meal, especially during the off-season.

I've been here with a party of 12 before, and we definitely waited a while, but I was impressed that they were able to accommodate a group that size. This time, I was with a party of two and we were seated pretty quickly. My one complaint about the wait system is that they announce when your table is ready, but if you're out of earshot, you'll miss it. It would be nice if they used a text, call, or buzzer system so you could walk down to the beach while you wait. Part of the pier seating is covered, but the farther you go out, the more exposed you are. We were seated near the end, so it was hot in the direct sun and very windy. But that comes with the territory, and the views make it worth it. There are also plenty of birds hoping you'll share your fries with them, which is both expected and pretty funny. We each ordered a Pain Killer. It was good at first, but it quickly became watered down, and I didn't think it was worth $10. We also got the nachos, but the price adds up quickly once you start adding toppings. Most of the menu is very à la carte. The prices seem reasonable at first, but sides and toppings can add up fast. The burgers don't come with fries, for example. We both got the West Coast Burger. It was good, but nothing particularly memorable. Service was attentive and generally friendly. Overall, Fish Heads is one of the better dining options in the area. The pier setting and views really make the experience unique. I enjoy coming here and will likely be back.
