Stopped by Dumplings & Things in Sunnyside and found it to be a cute little spot. The staff was friendly, and our order was taken quickly. The food was made fresh to order, which I always appreciate. Unfortunately, the dumplings themselves didn't really impress me. They weren't bad, but they lacked the flavor and quality I was hoping for. Honestly, I think I would have enjoyed picking up frozen dumplings from H Mart or another Asian grocery store and steaming or pan-frying them at home. That said, the service was fast and courteous, and the restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere. It just wasn't memorable enough food-wise for me to make a return visit. read more

THis website doesn't do edited reviews well. It's showing my first review twice. This place doesn't accept credit cards, doesn't offer tap water and glasses (because the owner said "I have to pay for paper cups"), and most all if not all employees do not speak english well. I don't really care, but if your staff cannot communicate with customers, the onus is on the customer. This is what business has become here in the US. Ordered delivery a few times and the food is really good. Beef noodle soup is delicious and great portion. Pork belly buns are tender and a must get. Randomly saw this place and decided to give it a try! The bao were very tasty and I really enjoyed the Chinese greens they are just steamed so I like them plain. It's nothing fancy but healthy. It was missing hoisen sauce that Chinese places usually put on top. They only had their house soy vinegar and hot sauce for the dumplings. The dumplings were ok, the skin is a bit too chewy for my taste. Overall it's a nice little spot, they have a bathroom and it's clean. It's self service style where you order and they bring you the food but then you clean up after yourself and get your own utensils and condiments. Cash only spot!!! read more

After debuting a decade ago in Brooklyn and met with decent fanfare, I was super excited when Dumplings & Things decided to make Sunnyside the destination for their second location. They chose the perfect part of Queens where this kind of Chinese fare was harder to find (#1) and have remained a focal point for eateries in the hood. The place is small but with enough tables in a casual setting for folks to grab a quick meal on the go. As things become more pricey in this part of town, D&T would be considered an affordable option. The folks that run this joint are some of the nicest in the hood and are the main reason I continue to come here. Their variety of food includes a slew of dumplings, noodles, soups, rice platters, and baos. It's important to note that it's not so much catered to Flushing taste buds, so most of the food is likely to be graded on a slight curve. I can't say that I think their namesake dumplings are always a thumbs up, I do think the noodle soups are where they might do best. The braised beef noodle is pretty standard, but given the rest of the options in the hood, this is really as good as it gets. The other items such as their grilled pork / chicken / shrimp over rice and baos are a nice touch as well. For the latter, the "melt in your mouth" pork belly is probably the one to get. I can see why this is an average place. This is a serve yourself place and the person at the front wasn't even that friendly. I get that it is cash only. So, that's one downside. I guess since there are banks everywhere that drawing cash at a reputable place isn't so hard. Unto the food the dumplings that I ordered were good, but the noodle soup wasn't so great. I wish it was, but it was subpar and needed more flavoring. I had to add a lot of hotsauce. All in all, I'm not sure if I'll return. read more

I've been here before and don't remember it being this bad. I tried their dumplings this time. Before I got the shrimp over rice which was alright. The dumplings were terrible. Seriously, I couldn't even finish them. Frozen dumplings from Trader Joe's are SIGNIFICANTLY better. I'm sad to right such a poor review as I love Sunnyside and supporting the local businesses... but I truly don't think you should waste your money on these dumplings. I pass this place coming back from the subway and have always been curious-- today my partner and I tried it! We ordered the pork and chive dumplings, pork belly bao, and each had the beef and pork belly noodle soup. A lot of food but happy we tried everything. The beef in the noodle soup was so tender and buttery. Pork bao was delicious, dumplings were cooked perfectly. I'm seeing a lot of remarks about blandness-- maybe it's people who ordered delivery, but when we ate at the restaurant, there were ample sauces at the table: vinegar, sriracha and soy sauce. I raved on how good the food was prior to picking up for my co workers To make a long story short, the braised beef soup I ordered was nothing but tendons on the meat. You would think the beef was a large piece of chewing gum. The scallion pancakes not only didn't have scallions, but were as hard as hockey pucks. On top of that, you can expect QUICK service. It's a small space with cute decor that also leaves a great impression. Ohhh the braised beef noodle soup! It smells! I'm very very sensitive when it comes to food. The meat was the one that made the smell to my noodles. Vegetable dumpling they deep fried it twice! Not once! It's twice because I work at restaurant. The hot oil wonton! This is not what I expected! Someone wrote a review saying it was spicy! Hahaha no it's not! There's no hot chili oil on top! I am excited to find a dumpling place close by. The menu prices are about equal/a little pricier than what I am use to but for the convenience it's worth it. Want to try the dumplings as my first meal. I order 'Melt in Your Mouth Pork Belly Noodles' to go since I am hungry and all the tables are filled (which is a good sign!). Issue #1: Didn't expect to wait 30 minutes for my order to be ready. On the other hand, it's freshly-made so that is good. I am hoping my timing is bad and it really doesn't normally take this long next time I go. Issue #2: Soggy noodles since it was in the broth and was saturated by the time I ate it. The noodles fell apart while eating it. For takeout, recommend asking to separate the noodles and broth. Since it's thin white noodles, it's not my favorite (that's more of a personal preference.) so it's unlikely I would order noodles. Appreciate that they don't use MSG...since it doesn't sit well with me. I can't wait to try the other items on the menu. read more

I really, really like this place. Its menu is fairly limited but they nail their dishes and price them reasonably. I always think ordering fried rice is kind of silly but I took a chance on an extra lazy day once and became addicted to theirs. The Chinese sausage is the perfect combination of salty and sweet, and I use the dumpling dipping sauce and Trader Joe's chili onion crunch to add extra flavor. It's just comfort in a bowl! Re: the dumplings, they are more American Chinese food style. But damnit, they do that style well! Not reminiscent of the authentic Chinese dumpling spots like Tianjin Dumpling house, mostly because the skin is thicker and the meat is denser. You get 5 for 5.50 and they're super filling and delicious. The food just feels fresh and made with care. Not sure how else to put it. Definitely give this local small business a shot! read more

I have to remind myself to NOT eat here again. Their food is always pretty bad and not flavorful and the offer only plastic spoons even if you dine in. Their ramen in the soup tastes greasy. I've gotten the melt in your mouth pork noodle soup a few times each time forgetting I've gotten it before and it's always bad. We got the spicy beef and kimchi dumplings (pan fried), wonton soup, chicken fried rice (portion is HUGE), pork bao buns, and a water all for 26$! Food was very good, easily would have paid way more for how good it taste. Definitely will be back. Definitely a great value. I ate them cold and they were still decent. Crispy shell & tender inside. Enjoy with soy sauce and vinegar. The fried rice is pretty mediocre, though. When they say 'Chicken fried rice', it is simply rice and a few bits of chicken (and a looot of oil). For $10, this is a terrible deal compared to the dumplings. read more
