handmade delicious taste. and take it from this asian gal, it's as good as mama made it

Awful dumplings at best, stomach churning-toilet seeking balls of fury at worst...The saddest part is that I once really enjoyed them. I'm convinced that in the past two years mgmt has changed or in an effort to save cash they have resorted to recylcing old dumplings. The best description of the dumplings on two recent trips-overly chewy, thick, and tepid, with grossly undercooked meat... not enjoyable and not so different from the poorest quality suburban chinese takeout. Save yourself the dissapointment and go anywhere else in manhattan. read more

This place rocks!! One would not expect such awesome dumplings in a hole in the wall place like this. I think we tried and ordered all the dumplings - except the sweet ones - they had on their menu (in 1 trip and there were only 4 of us!!) and practically inhaled them all! It was also pretty interesting to watch the old guy make the dumplings by hand - I don't think other places do it like that anymore... read more

dumpling man is good for casual light meal at any time. I usually have a mix of veggie, pork and shrimp dumpling. Have to say the skin of the dumpling is slightly too thick for my taste. But you feel pretty good and healthy as what steamed dumplings are supposed to be. The cashier is not friendly most of the time. One time I asked for Calpico and they say it has no stock for chilled ones. I mean, it is not exactly so hard to stick your stock into fridge. And the guy was kind of not friendly. The way they treat you is like I don't exactly care if you come in to eat or not. The Chinese ladies behind the cooking scene shouted a lot I have to agree. The fact that customers sit all in the bar table have to suffer these unbearable noise is a down thumb. But nevertheless, I consider this to be decent eat still. read more

as an asian who has eaten thousands of dumplings in my life so far, this place was OK. the place can fool "ghost man". i prefer the dumplings in chinatown. the only reason i gives 3 stars is that the white guy who worked there in cashier cracked me up, the guy tried to speak chinese to us and to the ladies that were making the dumplings. great entertainment! read more

ahhh if your in for some different dumplings other than from bklyn chinatown or canal chinatown here is the place to go. they taste fresh and they take their time in steaming it for you....unlike other asian places where it's fast.....i order 6 pieces of each type of dumplings...pork..chicken...veggie .....shrimp...and seasonal surprise dumplings.....they also have special dipping sause that will make your tongue twist in circles...i had the asian tahini...place is small....people working there originally from asia with skills....except cashier.....she is non asian.....and afterwards can also eat in japanese restaurant around the neighborhood.it's good to aleast try it once....yum yum read more

Delicious, well priced dumplings. Cute area to sit inside and the dessert dumplings are delicious. The pumpkin dumplings are a fantastic fall/winter pick-me-up. A place where you could get great takeout on the regular! read more

My experience at Dumpling Man left me feeling sick in more ways than one. The first strike was when my partner and I entered the restaurant and witnessed the mid to late twenties white man at the counter make a series of racist comments about the black delivery man coming in to pick up food for delivery. After the delivery man left, the white man said, "These delivery guys are fine until they open their mouths." He also said, "It's just so annoying, because I pay them." Extra gross given that it was a cold night and this delivery man was doing a tough and uncomfortable job to make people with the money to afford ordering in feel comfortable. This is most definitely the same white male employee referenced in Jeff T.'s review below. (I do not know Jeff T. and I was surprised to see another customer had an experience jarring enough with this employee to mention it in their review). This man would not stop showing off his Mandarin and his haughty manner around his coworkers (all of whom were women of color) was very unpleasant and disturbing. The second strike is that the food was pretty meh and left both my partner and I with major stomach aches. The fillings tasted a little sour, and the dough was unimpressive. Especially low ratings for the shrimp dumpling that seemed to be filled with mostly canned corn. I would recommend going to another dumpling house like Tasty Dumplings. read more

This was not nearly as good as I had hoped for. The steamed dumplings did not come out with steam, it looked and tasted more like microwave reheated dumplings. Both chicken and shrimp dumplings were pretty dry outside and inside, not juicy like I was hoping for. Shrimp dumpling was over stuffed with corn and some other stuff which tasted like wheat flour. Did not order pork, as my friend does not eat pork. Won't come back. Made the mistake of not checking Yelp reviews before jumping on this one. A quick search shows another dumpling place nearby with 4-star reviews. read more

This place is another testament to how I will put up with a lot of attitude for good food. St. Marks is the place of genesis of the "I-dont-give-a-fuck" punk attitude and the boy who checks me out couldn't express it more clearly. While I make my decision, he watches YouTube videos and rolls his eyes at me. He's lazy and obnoxious and annoys me to no end. But, oh, those delicious dumplings, plump and steaming filled with aromatic and spicy mixtures of meats and veggies. At Christmas time, I bet in lieu of sugar-plums, I will have visions of shrimp dumplings dancing in my head. The sauces are also quite tasty, I especially like double dipping in the spicy red sauce and the more tame green sauce. The lovely asian women who actually make the dumplings are hardworking and no-nonsense and I appreciate their energies as they sweat in a steamy kitchen on a hot day to serve me little present-like treats of warm dumpling lovin'. read more

The cute little logo was the first thing that attracted me to the Dumpling Man. I found the little store intriguing as well with the workers making the dumplings right in front of you and their walls adorned with shirts with the cute little dumpling logo. Then I was even more intrigued to find out that they offer both savory and sweet dumplings. Savory in different varieties of shrimp, chicken, pork and veggie, both steamed and seared. The sweet came only in pumpkin flavored. I love pumpkin! But then I actually tasted the dumplings. I've had better. It's neat to go for the novelty because you can mix and match the dumplings but I couldn't tell the difference between chicken and pork. It was overly seasoned. And the difference between the seared and the steamed wasn't very noticeable either. Pooh. read more

Tasty dumplings here, but be prepared to be full with the gut-bomb. I think it feels so filling because the dumplings are made with a heavy type of flour that feels like pasta. I have only gotten the vegetarian dumplings here, and I put the sriracha sauce on top as well as the soy sauce. I'm not such a huge fan of watching the women with their pork filling at the counter, though it adds to the novelty. read more

The Dumpling Man is one of my favorite affordable dates in the city! It is great for veg and non-veg, including vegan eating. Everything is incredibly clearly labeled, you can watch dumplings being made (even soup dumplings!), and there are ten million sauces. For me, a million sauces is literally my fantasy! That said, the dumplings are so good, that even without ordering any of their special sauces, just using the array of complimentary condiments suffices completely. There are always regular vegetarian dumplings AND special vegetarian dumplings -- I almost always get one order of each. Yes, I usually eat 8 dumplings in a visit. They also have beer! It's tiny in there so getting it to go and bringing it to a nearby bar is a good back-up plan, but I love sitting there so I can watch dumplings getting made while I eat. I love it so much that I even want my future child to have a Dumpling Man onesie. read more

Horrible service. they hung up on me twice when all i needed to know was the status so that i could plan out my evening. great dumplings, horrible service. I never want to interact with them again. read more

This a place is amazing!!!! Came over here to eat while waiting for PDT across the street. We got the happy hour special of 6 dumplings and a beer for $9 - cannot be beat. Dumplings can be purchased in groups of 6 (steamed or seared) and you can choose from veggie, chicken, pork, shrimp or a mix. They also have soup dumplings. There are 2 ladies right at the counter behind glass making and cooking dumplings non-stop. It is a plain place but great sauces and the dumplings are delicious - pork was the standout. Excellent value if you don't mind the counter and serving yourself. read more

What a great place! Fresh dumplings made right before your eyes. The amazing owner Lucas Lin is always good for some interesting conversation and the hot monster sauce is to die for. Veggie dumplings with hot monster, peanuts and Chinese radishes all poured over the top......that's my order and they know it!! read more

Very cute and cozy. The cashier is extremely nice and very friendly. Greeted my friend and I with a smile while making us feel welcomed. Cheap prices for great quality food. I will definitely be returning. read more

Dumplings were so-so. Service was crabby. I got the fried pork dumplings and they were rather greasy. The inside of this place is tiny and claustrophobic if there are more than two other people inside at the same time. And, the don't have ice. In the middle of summer in NY, you cannot get ice for your (warm) drink. read more

Wait in line. Wait 20 minutes for dumplings. Tourist trap and not even worth it. Save yourself the painful experience and literally buy them frozen and cook them at home. Unless you want to wait till the end of time. read more

Horrible! DO NOT EVER EAT HERE! Bad hygiene. The lady picked her nose, her finger past her knuckle. Tried to serve me food. After I said something, she barely rinsed her hands, rubbed her face and nose AGAIN and tried to serve me more food. People in line saw this and realized they were going to serve the booger food to others, they all started leaving. If they do this in front of people, what are they doing where no one sees! read more

mmm hmmm, mmm hmmm. for dumplings that really hit the spot, look no further than the seared pork ones here.

overrated. plump dumpling a few blocks up is much better and much less busy. it's fun to watch that assembly line stuff dumplings but the actual food is not good, people! c'mon! read more

I walked in here today per a reccomendation from my uber hip ex-new yorker brother. I was FAMISHED and needed to eat the next thing that fell into my hands. I asked the cashier what he liked and he pointed to a sign that read, "special- 3-5 pm 6 pc dumpling 3.50, free soda". I said, "sure, pork please". 10 minutes later I am handed a little tray of 6 pork pot stickers that are hotter than hell. I dipped them in sriacha and soy sauce and their special sauce and devoured them quickly. They were tasty but average all around. My soda wasn't cold, and the cashier said they didn't have ice. Other than those wierd aspects, my $ 3.50 lunch hit the spot. read more

very small place. not a proper sit down spot, but they do have seating. the chicken, veggie and shrimp dumplings are good. but after eating the third dumpling, you're full. the dough is quite thick so dont taste the meat inside as much or the flavors. i had to drown them in sauces. read more

I've only had their steamed veggie dumpling, but thats because every time I go there I can't resist ordering it again. I'm not even vegetarian, they're just that good. They have two different veggie dumplings: one is made with mostly mushroom and soy (which I didn't really care for honestly) and then struck gold with the other veggie dumpling. This one alone maybe the best dumpling I've had so far. The dough has the perfect bite to it, the flavors of the veggies come so well, and the dumpling sauce provided brings everything together perfectly. I also appreciate the sriracha bottles everywhere, and if you take your order to go, they pack everything perfectly and quickly, and you can take as much of the sauces you want with you. If you come at the right time you can enjoy watching them make the dumplings in front of you. I've come here regularly and love that dumpling full-heartedly. Maybe one day I'll try something new. read more

good for dumplings outside of chinatown. monster sauce is funny. but i don't order dumplings too much outside of chinatown because of the higher pricing so three stars for plump dumpling. read more

n=Next to 'two stars' it says "Meh, I've experienced better"... Exactly, meh... Nothing special about the dumplings, plus a ridiculous wait time for an order for take out even when it was not so crowded. Sorry, was expecting something more special from uncountable pages of reviews on yelp. read more

Not great. The dumplings were relatively tasteless and the skin was consistently too thick.

These dumplings are made fresh and come in a variety of fillings. The place is more geared toward take out than eat in. The sauces taste watered down - both the secret sauce which is eel sauce and the sriracha. The chop sticks are of low quality. The dumplings themselves are about average for the area. read more

I come here weekly, and have yet to taste a bad dumpling.

okay so my usual spot for dumpling is Prosperity Dumpling. . . I was in the area so I decided to check this place out the set up is actually more inviting than Prosperity. I had the Shrimp Sear dumpling pack to go. I did enjoy the dumpling it was a different taste than the usual shrimp dumpling I have had. I enjoyed it and actual wished I had 12 instead of 6 dumpling after eating the last one lol. I would go here again to try the other dumplings, the sweet ones sound good. I didn't like the fact that I was charged $0.50 for pack to go. yeah yeah its only cents but umm why do I have to pay to go when the place was a bit on the pack side. I'm not into waiting for a seat when I can take it home. read more

dumplings are my favorite food ever- any style. this place had the goods. i got the steamed vegetable dumplings, which normally aren't my favorite but i was trying to do the right, healthy thing before i totally contaminated my body with alcohol. with that said, i dont know what vegetables were put in these things, but i thought i was eating meat, it was awesome. pretty quick and friendly service. one thing i didnt like was the bathroom situation though- it says its for staff only?? and it looked a little narst. other than that, i would def go back again. read more

Awesome dumplings, man. St Marks is a cool strip, and this place is nice for a quick bite. Unfortunately, when I asked to change the TV channel, they told me is was a dvd (Ghostbusters). read more

I was excited to try this place. It really was a disappointing. Happy dumpling is way better. There dumpling sauce to dip has no favor at all. The hot monster sauce is disgusting. As if they took used cooking grease and added soy sauce and scallions. The worst. Don't waste your time. If you think this place is good its because you haven't tried better. read more

I'm not sure what people's problem is with this place. I seem to be craving dumplings more often than not and this place is the perfect fit. A mic of steam or pan fried offerings with about 5 different standard fillings. The only the one that I am not a fan of is the shrimp. Their pork, veggy, and soup dumpling are really good. Add their cold peanut noodles and have a seat to watch everything being homemade. read more

I had ordered dumplings and cold noodles for take out. They were quick which shouldve been a hint that it wasnt gonna be good. The dumpling was half burnt. I think they just warm it it up before serving. The noddles was suppose to be lite. Oddly they used a thick noodle instead. I read a lotta people's review but i dunno what so great about it. The only amazing thing is a caucasian cashier speaking chinese. read more

Got the steamed pork with a friend. I'm not a huge fan of dumplings but the pork stuffing was okay though I was not a fan of the dough (was a bit too tough). Friend who is Chinese said they were good and very large so I'll take her word for it as I'm only used to korean dumplings. read more

rolled fresh all day long (it's actually quite trancing to watch), these little things are DELICIOUS. we went with a group of 10 and all agreed the pork were the best. seared. the best part is that you don't have to buy a minimum quantity. one girl walked in while we were there and literally bought two dumplings. read more

An ok place to get a quick snack. Over priced in comparison to other dumpling spots in Chinatown. The dough was hard and chewy on the "seared" chicken dumpling. Favoring was close to average at best. read more
