The best dumplings in Houston. I have not tried any of the other dishes here, but why would you, the name of the restaurant in dumpling KING!!! This is one of the best hole in the wall Chinese restaurants located just east of Voss on Westheimer. Mann.. dumplings were awesome and it will not dent your wallet. It is typical China town server and location.. so if you're on a date I would not suggest this place. If you like dumplings, this place has a variety of them. I think 2 orders is good per person but I would go with 3-4 so you can try more of the options. read more

What's not to love about a dumpling? Dumpling king has some of the best dumplings in town if not the best, and as my boyfriends dad likes to say "I don't know what they do to them but they are the king :)!" I personally prefer their steamed dumpling over pan friend but that's always the case for me with any dumpling. I also think they have wonderful chicken and corn soup, and its not overly salted like most Chinese soups tend to be. As for the rest of the menu I have not tried it because when you are going to a place called Dumpling King you are probably going for the dumplings, or at least I know I am. I think this place is great and I would highly recommend you try it if you haven't already! read more

From all the reviews... I had to go try Dumpling King. As I set out for lunch, I knew it was going to be as everyone had said.. I would find it next to a cigar shop and being a small hole in the wall didn't bother me, but the parking was horrible (as warned). When stepping inside I noticed that the lunch crowd was packed so I figured the reviews were pretty accurate and so was the wait on the food. I sat for almost 30 minutes before my one order of pan fried shrimp and pork came out (10 to be exact). Was the food decent? YEP. Was it worth the long wait and rave reviews? Absolutely NOT. It was mediocre to say the least. Pan Fried was barely that. Tasted more like steamed with "slight" crisp on one side. Ohhhh... I so miss Doozo Downtown. I have yet to find a substitute for it but working along the Beltway 8 area is a bit of a strain to get to. Oh well.... you live and learn. They have great dumplings, the xiao long bao did not have soup in them. The niu rou mian broth was pretty thin. It is nice to see a restaurant not in Chinatown that serves authentic Chinese. Im coming back to try more on the menu. read more

This place is great. It seems to take a little longer than I imagine a dumpling being cooked. The sauce selection at the table (including some sort of jalapeno chop) is incredible. I love this place! Dumplings are good, made with fresh dough not pre-fab wonton wrappers. Fillings are excellent. We like the pan-fried crispy noodles with their addictive white sauce as well, and the lo mein is good (my kids love it!), not amazing. Soups are ok, but come here for the DUMPLINGS. And get it to go. The restaurant itself has less than zero atmosphere. But the food is really good, reasonably priced, and freshly made. read more

A REAL Chinese place. The closest to San Francisco style I've found in Texas. Amazing Dumplings and soup. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. It may look like a dive, but the food makes up for it. Went a little wild here lon lunch and tried a bunch of stuff. The green onion pancake was great, highly recommended. The almond chicken was okay, but nothing special. Tried out a few different types of dumplings and they too were just middling. Also, the water tastes mad sketchy, so we had to swap to soda. Nice people and solid service. read more

Best Dumplings Ever! My family has been coming here for over 20 years. This place is amazing. All we get are the steamed dumplings: pork, chicken, shrimp, veggie. They are all amazing! I also get the hot and sour soup once in a while but it is never spicy enough and it's not the typical brown one. It has more of a cream/green hue. It is not a fancy place by any means but it's a great cozy place with fantastic food! read more

Authentic dumplings. The style is mostly asian but with a bit of western asian mixed flavor. I go regularly because I think it is silghtly better than the ones in Chinatown. The price is alright, not all that cheap but not expensive either. I have not tried any things else except for the dumplings. I think this is a great place for take out. Sitting in isn't all that advertising since the setting hasn't been updated for a while. Parking is a bit packed but I have not had any issue with finding a spot. read more

Small,simple and quite delicious. Enjoyed steamed chicken and chive dumplings and an order of steamed pork dumplings. Both exactly what I hoped for and enjoyed them equally. I also liked the different options on the table allowing you to make your own dumpling sauces. Wow! Amazing homemade dumplings, and the other food isn't bad either. We got the pan-fried pork dumplings and the steamed chicken & chives dumplings. This has to be the first time in my life that I liked the steamed more than the pan-fried. It wasn't too soggy or too dry like most places. Instead, the outside held together well, while the inside was moist, juicy, and flavorful. Tasted like it had been soaked in soup, without the sogginess. The five spices beef noodle was also flavorful and very authentic. But the ravest review goes to the ginger. They have a little cup of mashed-up ginger with black pepper. I've never seen it with dumplings in my life, nor had I ever thought of it at home. It's really a knockout combination, especially with a little soy sauce and vinegar. Had been wanting to try this place for weeks, because I love me some dumplings!! Finally went a couple days ago. I love how quiet this place is...we were there at noon on a Thursday and it was nice and peaceful. I got an order of the pan-fried pork dumplings and the steamed chicken dumplings. My boyfriend ordered the Mongolian beef. The dumplings were perfect...not too doughy. The steamed ones had this delicious sauce inside, and the pan-fried pork ones were slightly crispy. My favorite. Had a bite of the Mongolian beef and it was pretty awesome...I don't usually like Mongolian beef but this stuff was special. I must return to The Dumpling King soon...that dumpling coma I slipped into afterwords was too glorious not to experience again. read more

Slightly prejudiced. Went here on a late evening from church to complete the meal I was making that night. I had my daughter and my neighbor's grandsons with me. It was two weeks ago on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. They seemed a little..just a little irritated that I bought only 3 egg rolls...and with my debit card? They were speaking their language which sounded Mandarin..not sure. But I will not be back. They did say thank you to me however. But I think we all know when people merely just tolerate us in any setting or situation! LOL! read more

OK, the dumplings are good, Ill give them that. They are meaty and freshly made by hand so all that is good. Ambiance sort of sucks, tiny tables, not going to vouch for cleanliness and believe it or not, they ration napkins, we were there with 3 kids and having to constantly ask for napkins and each time receive only one got old. finally got up and grabbed a stack- their look was priceless. The other Chinese food was mall quality as another reviewer so eloquently posted but again, the dumplings were spot on. Also only sweet and low and sugar so if you are equal, splenda or stevia person bring your own (ok, its my pet peeve). prices are low too, so we may keep this in the rotation for "take out" only. read more

If you're having anything besides the dumplings, it's honestly 2 stars at best. However, the actual dumplings are amazing, so it's worth a trip every once in a while for those. Our favorite types of dumplings are the steamed/fried pork and the pork purses. Other people we've come here with have enjoyed pretty much all the different types of dumplings. The dumplings are also a good values, about $10 per person. You can make your own dumpling sauce (there are a bunch of add ins and spices available), but we usually just stick with the default soy sauce. Fair warning - the bathrooms here are pretty bad and the water they give you to drink is kind of unpleasant. The non-dumpling food is also pretty bad. But if you're in the mood for solid, cheap dumplings this should definitely be on your list! read more

Love this place! I have been going for at least 8 years. They have lots of dumplings to choose from, and their Wonton soup is the best! I love that they give you all of the ingredients (ginger, jalapenos, soy sauce, peanut oil, vinegar) to make your own dipping sauce for the dumplings. Not sure any other place that does this. From the street, it looks like a hole in the wall, but inside are all the goodies!! The dumplings here are fantastic. I always get the steamed vegetable dumplings with chives and the green onion pancake. The dumplings are jam packed with flavor and the green onion pancake is out of this world. My husband loves the fried pork dumplings. I love Dumpling King! The dumplings are tasty and come with a variety of condiments: Sweet and Sour, Chopped Serrano, Oil, Vinegar, and sometimes Spicy Mustard. I like how they have a "lunch special" kind of deal all day. The lemon chicken is really good. I like how their fried dishes are not too oily and lightly breaded. I also tried the sweet and sour chicken, which was pretty good. Plain atmosphere, but I liked the food and the prices. read more

Dumplings (chicken) with the sauce are delicious. So was the shrimp in garlic sauce and Beijing toasted shrimp. Large quantity of shrimp for a great price, even for dinner. Next time I will try their pancake appetizer, eggplant dish, tofu dish, and their shrimp in lobster sauce. Yummy! Great service too :) read more
