Stopped in for the "fresh homemade pie" sign on the side of the road. My son has been dying for some pie today so I was so excited to support a small business. While I understand being the only person there to serve and what not, a prompt warning that the only flavor of pie was most definitely over a week old, soggy as could be, and full of undercooked, under mixed raw flour would have been human decency. To say this is the last time I will stop here is an understatement. Not to mention they charged me $16.75 for two slices on this paper plate and wrap. Thank you for ruining my 3 year olds excitement with what he described as "the saddest pie ever." Hopefully the food is better, but I won't be giving my money to these folks again. I don't know what to say. This place is definitely unique and worth the stop. There's no beers on tap but plenty of selection and bottles and cans and there are some hard liquor as well. I did a double-take when I drove by this place the first time, as this quaint, cozy, cottage-like Irish pub is an island unto itself, in the middle of nowhere along an otherwise featureless highway. For a moment, I thought I had somehow took a wrong turn and had driven into rural Ireland. I was curious. I knew I had to check it out on our return drive home later in the day. Unfortunately, the hours posted to Yelp and Google were incorrect; either that, or the proprietors had closed early that Sunday night. Either way, they were gracious enough to let us poke about a bit before leaving, and I have to say, we will likely be making a special trip to revisit this place in the near future. The interior is warm, dimly lit, and filled with the heartwarming aroma of wood smoke from the black iron furnace, and Irish stew simmering in the kitchen. Lots of love and personal touches have been included in the interior decor: vintage artwork, framed and loose pictures, posters and newspaper clippings, antiques, tchotchkies, your standard neon bar signs, and hard wood furniture. It looks and feels lived in: a living history museum of the region, which apparently has more history than one would ascertain from driving through this tiny hamlet. OK folks, time to get real on this "Irish Pub". My parents have been passing by this joint for many years and have never stopped in, but were intrigued by it. We decided to make a nice drive and stop in last month. When we walked in, it is about 11 am, and we were the first ones in the restaurant. We were greeted by, the employee by the bar that was either the owner, server, bartender or all of the above. She let us know that there was no menu and she reviewed the choices for meals. Honestly, they all sounded delicious. Her delivery of the menu was pretty coarse and she even asked if we were paying attention. (Red Flag #1). We said, of course we were, and my pops and I proceeded to ordering a beer. There were NO beers on tap and I did not see 1 Irish beer in a bottle. (Red Flag #2). We ordered an oatmeal stout and toured around the restaurant and back deck area. The deck is small but cool and the restaurant looked like a museum of various things. Honestly...it was cool. The tables sat crooked, I assume because of the crooked floor, but that was character as far as I was concerned. At this point we ordered our meals. When the meals came, my mom's fried oysters were awful and tasted like they had been sitting around for a day and were reheated. My pops and I had the spaghetti with oysters in a butter sauce and the spaghetti tasted like it was a day old. It was almost like we were getting leftovers. There was no salt and pepper on the table so I asked the server (owner) for some...he response was "Does it not taste OK, we usually spice it correctly". I was like, "HUH?. What restaurant would assume that they know how to season a meal for every patron that walks through the door? She walked back into the kitchen and brought out the cooks salt and pepper shaker, then waited for us ti finish using them so she could bring them back to the kitchen. WEIRD. We choked down the rest of the meal and politely excused ourselves. I went up to the bar and paid the bill. Mind you, we never saw a menu with prices or were we told the cost. After tip it was $162.00. absolutely ridiculous. So, in summary, we could look past the rude server (Owner) and no Irish beer, but the food quality was a ZERO. read more

We passed this establishment on our way to some sightseeing and both said "well that's unexpected" but planned to stop on our way back through. So glad we did!! The owner and staff were so kind, warm and friendly. We felt genuinely welcomed, like we were guests in someone's home, which is not something I'm used to feeling at a restaurant/bar. We had a drink, then the owner asked us if we were hungry and rattled off several seasonal delights featuring local fresh produce and delish proteins. The portions were ENORMOUS, served on an actual platter. My husband had the spare ribs with butter beans and I had the pasta with local oysters. Cannot rave about this hidden gem enough. This place is a hidden gem. I am wondering how many people actually know about this place. This location is just randomly THERE! We stopped in and decided to try it. I didn't think I'd be impressed but was I ever! The food was over the top delicious. I was wondering how the food could be so good. I also wondered why it was not so buy. I wish a place like this would get busy so it would stay in business. I asked the one and only server/bartender if she got sad because it wasn't busy. She looked at me confused and said, "What do you mean, we are busy (there were 4 customers)." I thought it was funny the way she said it. Why only 4 out of 5 stars. The place inside could use some dusting. There's a lot of "stuff" everywhere which accumulates dust. Also, the patio, which is where we ended having dinner, could use some repair. Other than that, worth stopping in. BTW, I spoke to a customer who said that they drove from Seattle on that day just to eat there then were going to drive back. They do this at least once a year. We stopped here for dinner on our way home from a kayak trip. We thought we'd try something different from the usual Burgerville and we're really glad we did. This place serves slow-cooked, REAL food! They had fresh oysters! The food was good - huge portions. The ambiance is amazing - the building is full of Irish-themed memorabilia and antiques. It feels like a place out of time. They have a deck that looks out over the river. It would be a cozy place to hang on a rainy day too. The service was friendly and personal. They don't have a printed menu. They had a couple of gluten-free options. The Chicken & Dumplings dinner was $26.00 and the Oysters New Orleans was @$28.00. I love Duffy's, The whole place is just a great experience, The pub is owned by a husband and wife, who run it by themselves I stopped by with my boyfriend one day while we were driving through and decided to have lunch it was the best experience ever, we weren't aware that you needed to call to make reservations and kind of brought a big party table for she was able to accommodate us and who is super friendly. The second time we went was for my birthday October 30 I had called prior to make reservations as she had mentioned that the previous time we went, we brought about eight people and it was the best atmosphere she was so friendly and accommodating. The food was amazing!!! the drinks were amazing!!! the food is more then what you'd expect because it's freshly made that day!! the plates are huge!!! it's Homestyle cooking so you do need to let her know if you're allergic to anything, also called before if you're going to eat!!! Explaining why this place works is like trying to explain how Ron Jeremy ever had a career. "Quirky" just doesn't quite do it justice. It comes dangerously close to the hipster line without going over. This place is really in the middle of nowhere but when I passed by it the first time I noticed the wood stacked on the front porch and a sign advertising a Turkey dinner for Thanksgiving. Since then the girlfriend and I have stopped in at least a half dozen times when passing by and we've never been disappointed. Rarely is there more than a couple people here when we've stopped in during the winter months (favorite time to stop by). Normally the conversation between regulars centers on elk hunting and fishing reports. Every time I've been here it's been the same waitress who is friendly in a non cloying kind of way and seems to actually remember us. I would describe the food as "comfort food" and consider it above average. They take pride in whatever is made fresh that day and I usually follow their lead. The pie (homemade) and ice cream has never let us down and I consider it a fair price. While the deck looks nice (right on the river) we almost always stop here in the middle of winter so we've never had a meal outside. That brings me to my favorite part...all that wood stacked on the front porch is for the big ass wood burning stove that sits in the corner. During the winter that thing is nearly red hot and just waiting for a toddler to erase all of their fingerprints. I give them at least one extra star for having the balls to leave that bad boy out there without any kind of a guard rail. My tip of the day? When its cold and rainy the round table right behind the stove is the best spot in the house. Oh, and pie...always go for the pie. read more

Most bizarre experience ever. We were driving to Long Beach on the WA side of the river for the first time, and passed through Grays River around lunchtime. Figured it was the perfect opportunity to stop in for a cold drink and a bite to eat, and from the outside Duffy's looked charming and inviting. At 1:00 on a Saturday, we were the only ones there. The staff were super friendly and accommodating - no complaints there. They rattled off a list of daily specials and then put the handwritten, food-splattered paper on our table. Okay...quaint, I guess. My wife got a Bud Light and I ordered a Bloody Mary. Both hit the spot. We ordered food and, while it was cooking, decided to have a look around the place. Duffy's is dimly lit, as any proper bar should be, and display cases full of knickknacks line the walls. Upon further examination, these were a bit unsettling - specifically, the collection of Nazi memorabilia. Umm, really?! Hitler's enough to turn anybody's stomach. What it was doing in an Irish pub is beyond me. And then the food arrived... My wife's burger contained cornflakes. Not a cornflake-crusted beef patty, mind you; actual cornflakes, as in, cereal. Sandwiched between the burger and the bun. Can't say I've ever seen that before. It didn't taste bad - just different. The German-style potato salad accompanying the burger was good, as long as you could overlook the long, stray hair in it. I got the traditional Irish stew, which was okay at best. The chunks of beef were tender and the potatoes were cooked fine, though the whole thing was in need of seasoning. I was less thrilled with the vegetable medley, which was clearly just reheated (and rather bland) frozen veggies. One bite and I was good. Two warm dinner rolls accompanied the dish; I'm pretty sure they were King's Hawaiian sweet rolls. That's not a bad thing. I'm also a little afraid this place is a fire hazard waiting to happen. There were electrical cords snaking all over the place - the wooden ceiling, the walls, the floor - filling every available outlet. I assume it's all up to code, but I do wonder. Again, the people working here were over-the-top friendly. I feel bad leaving a negative-ish review, but I just can't overlook mediocre (and overpriced) food and the tasteless memorabilia on display. It's not ALL bad; the Pine Street Theater posters and old news clippings are pretty cool, but the other stuff has got to go. With updated decor and a focus on fresh cuisine that doesn't come from a bag or box, this place could be a solid hit. read more

We stopped here last Saturday afternoon, just on a whim, to take a picture of their sign (my husband's cousin's maiden name is Duffy). We talked with the waitress for a few moments and quickly decided this might be a great place to stop for a late lunch on our way home. The day was clear and warm, so we enjoyed our lunch on Duffy's back deck, which overlooks the Grays River. Lovely! We shared an order of linguica sausage, butter beans and dirty rice - and totally enjoyed the shrimp in the dirty rice, the little extras on the plate (large, thin slices of raw zucchini, sliced Asian pear, tomato, a single lovely spear of asparagus, along with the standard garnish of a large radish rose in a lettuce cup. All was lovingly arranged on the plate, and was just as tasty as it was beautiful. The portions here are large - so it was easy for us to share one plate and go away full and happy. Whenever we come to this area, we stay at Hotel Cathlamet and then go out to exploring nearby towns and trails. We were delighted to have Thanksgiving dinner at Duffy's. One of the owners, Derrick, is the consummate maitre'd, publicist, and chef. He grew up in this pub from the time his grandfather purchased the place in 1995 and you can tell he is mighty proud. Though I was disappointed with the catfish, I loved the creole-style dirty rice and the butter beans. The Celtic music playing in the background made us get up and dance a jig a few times. We look forward to returning the next time we are in the area. read more

Food is odd, poor quality, cold, and over priced. Very cluttered and run down atmosphere. Feels like you're at a flea market instead of an Irish pub. People running it were not very professional. They had no written menu and did not give the prices for the food upfront when verbally explaining the menu. Which was quote "what we had leftover". The only server was visibly flustered at the work load even though the place was almost empty. Most odd and unprofessional thing was when the server made a customer carry her own drinks out to the back deck for the rest of her party and told her she needed to check back inside for when her food was ready because she won't have time to come out and check. Then when a couple ordered a second drink the server demanded their dirty glasses back and made them a new drink in the old glasses and put the used straws she had placed on the bar BACK IN THEIR DRINKS! I only know all this because we were sitting at the bar. Then when we were finished eating the server kept asking why I hadn't finished my rice on the plate. Unclean, unprofessional, and overpriced I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you want a really weird dining experience. read more

Family run, hole in the wall pub. We stopped in on our way back from the coast. We wanted to sit on the patio, but it started raining. Great decor. Artillery lamps, curios of eccentric knick knacks. It would take hours to see it all We ordered 2 of the specials. Open faced pork roast sandwich and pork roast dinner plate. The pork was so tender! The gravy was delicious. One had homemade potato salad. The other had their rice. I could eat a bowl of that rice and be very content! The cook is the nephew of the original owner and has been learning from his uncle for years. Very nice guy. We will definitely be going back! read more

Have drove past Duffys hundreds of time to and from the beach. We decided to stop today.... DUFFYS will definitely be a frequent stop for us. Only stopped for a beer this time but the bartender was extremely kind and knowledgeable. Hoping to join them for their big St. Patrick's day celebration. Only complaint was my wife's catfish fillet was absolutely tiny, like literally 1/3 the size of a normal fillet. That aside the meal was awesome! The (small) catfish was excellent, her dirty rice and black-eyed peas were freaking amazing (and plentiful). I had the fried oyster burger and it was very good also. All told with these two meals and 2 bloody marys we were into it $40. A little high but who's their competition and the service and views were really good. We would return in the future. read more

At least once a year my friends and I ride our motorcycles from Beaverton, OR to this amazing spot. Its a beautiful ride that ends with some great food and a killer atmosphere. The folks here are the kindest around with a sense of humor to boot! The food is always cooked perfect and taste amazing! This place is amazing! The proprietor used to run Pine Street theater in Portland and the National Cash Register building bar (now McMenamin's) in St. Johns in Portland. There is awesome art and show posters everywhere, funky tchotchkes in display cases, a deck overlooking Grays River with an orange cat that lives on it, and the service was wonderful. The waitress made a point about asking for dietary restrictions so she could recommend specific foods or have the cook make them differently. She also poured a mean black and tan. The art and funky houses around the bar make it worth a stop. Gnome garden sheds, curlicue wrought iron, and a Victorian/steampunk tower across the street that is basically a display case for old bathyspheres, engines, and tools. read more

Found this lovely spot while exploring a new route to Longview. (WA-4). It feel as if it is in the middle of nowhere (pretty much is). Just like being back home in Western Ireland. So much to see on the walls and in cases (much of it for sale),grand craic, great food with huge portions. Huge radishes as garnish. Had butter beans, oysters, and corn bread and was placed in culinary bliss. My minions had turkey suppers with all of the American type fixings and were very pleased. Prices were a wee bit steep on special suppers,but many of the regular menu items (burgers, etc.) were in line with the norm. All home cooked and slowly served (which is a good thing). Grab the table by the wood stove, warm yer buns, and have a kettle of tea and a pint or two or three. Lots of cool history in this old building (actually set of buildings). Owner is a unique and fascinating individual. His personalty truly shows here. Loraine was an amazing and sweet host. It was as if we had all been together in a past life. Very odd, but cool vibe between all of us. The spirits behind the bar weren't the only ones in the house... PS The apple pie is phenomenal and easily the best that all of us have ever had. Wife and I were going to Astoria and highway 30 had a wreak so drove Washington side. We were getting close to Astoria when we passed this little place. Wife's maiden name is Duffy so we stopped in. Not the cleanest most organized place I've ever been but one of my favorites. Ordered 2 beers and set out side on the deck, where we watched Cutt Throat trout swimming in the river. Ordered the special pork roast with gravy on open face bread. . Pork and gravy were to die for. BEST EVER.. We drove out of our way 4 days later on way home to eat there again Derrick our waiter from first trip was working again :).. He told us he had a 2 inch Ribeye in back bone in. We asked him about fish and he said he had a small piece of king salmon in back too. Asked him to make us the steak with the salmon with rice and he said no problem. Not on menu but they will make you what ever they have. Our dinner was one of our best ever. Food both times were prepared from scratch just for us very quiet place both times only 1 other couple there. Derrick our waiter was outstanding. He was also our cook.. Both visits were transcendent experiences. The Irish stew the first time was the definition of hearty and the waitress struck the perfect balance between attentive, engaging and informative. We had the place mostly to ourselves on a Sunday evening and the warmth of the wood stove and the subdued lighting had me in Ireland. Second time was after a week paddling down the Columbia and the Spicy Sausage, Cajun Red Beans & House Specialty Rice were just awesome with a cold pint of porter. Took a drive to Grays River on a beautiful summer Sunday afternoon. Stopped in for a cold beer and ended up staying for dinner outside on the deck. Diane, the bartender/server, was laid back and friendly. Derrick, the chef, came out from the kitchen and explained the "specials" and you would have thought you were at a 4 star restaurant in New York. The way he explained them made my mouth water and I wanted a bite of everything. I settled on the Chicken and Dumplings which were made from scratch as was everything else on the menu. Derrick has been part of the restaurant since he was 4 years old and you could tell he loved the place, his uncle the owner and the food he prepared. We will definitely go back. There was enough chicken and dumplings for me to serve both my husband and myself leftovers for dinner tonight:-) read more

This is a one of a kind place. You will walk through the door and enter an entirely different world. The food is always delicious and the service extremely warm and inviting. You will feel like you may be visiting some distance relative who lives out in the middle of no where. We have been eating here on occasion for about nine years. It never changes - never. I am not sure why I find so many excellent places to eat and/or drink, but Duffy's has to be the best Irish Pub. It is an 80-miles round trip from home, and every mile is worth it. Duffy's is s nice cozy pub with a great staff...well, on a busy day there is a staff present otherwise it is the owners that take care of the drinkers. Derrick, the owner's grandson, is fantastic at making folks feel comfortable and his pleasure in making people happy (at Duffy's) is obvious. Can't say I am a regular because I live too far away...so, I will say I am a happy "Irregular" patron. Visit Duffy's you will not be disappointed. read more

We intended on eating at Grays River Café on our way to Long Beach, but they were closed. We decided to stop at Duffy's and man, it was totally worth it! I walked in and didn't think very much of the electic décor, or the slow service. Our quick dinner stop lasted about an hour and a half. But, oh...the food....it was sooooo good. I was shocked at how good my Irish stew was. The veggies were still a bit crisp, just the way I like them. The blue burger was thick and moist. The butter beans were melt in your mouth and the dirty rice/sausage was to die for. If you come by this place, you really should stop! read more
