I recently had all of my hallway floors done for a four story home. After weeks of having to reschedule my appointment due to other work that was being done in my home, they accommodated me and I was finally able to schedule my appointment and stick to it. I greatly appreciated their patience. Duffy's told me that it would take a week to sand and poly the floors, and one week it took! Each afternoon I was told what time the workmen would be here the next day, and they were always prompt. These two things mattered to me tremendously due to my own work schedule. The office staff was a pleasure to work with, especially Alison. She confirmed with me, every time we spoke, about the particulars of the job, so that we were all on the same page at all times. She was always available to answer questions, and let me know my options with molding etc. My 125 year old floors came out great! In an old house, I did not expect them to be perfect, but they came out better than expected. Sid, the project manager, was responsive and listened to my concerns and relayed them back to the office. I had two rooms sanded and finished. They did an awesome job. They got to work right away. They were clean and efficient ! I thought I needed stain but they explained the stain would change the color of the natural wood and it would not match with the other flooring in my house. I appreciated the honesty. Nice people run the business, but their workmen are terrible--they do a really poor job and leave a mess behind. After the first bad job, the manager was very apologetic and tried to fix it himself. So I made the mistake of hiring them for a second, bigger project, and the result was even worse. They didn't inform me that the new floorboards were a *different* color and just went ahead and installed them! But they didn't even complete the job--lots of warped floorboards were just left in place instead of being replaced. I'm surprised because they get lots of good reviews, but those reviews are from years ago. Different workmen mean quality has been dropped. read more

On a recommendation from a friend, I hired Duffy's to polyurethane my hardwood floors before I moved into a new home. The floors were littered with staples, water stains and even had a sizable, unfilled hole where a radiator had once been. The results were far better than I expected. I can't imagine the floor looked any better when new, if it ever looked this good at all. They even managed to cleanly patch the hole so well that on close inspection you might not even realize it has been patched. To top it off, the price was extremely reasonable. A few weeks after they finished my floor, I visited my local barbershop for a haircut. To my surprise, the job supervisor who had been to my home was sitting in the very next barber's chair. I spoke with him for a few minutes and learned that he lives just two blocks away. I prefer patronizing local firms because they have a reputation in the community. It's good to see that Duffy's both serves and lives in Maspeth. read more

UPDATE: 10/30/20 // Resulting from a central HVAC unit overflow, we had major damage to our wood flooring. I called Duffy's and, as usual, their response was timely & professional. Their Foreman showed up at the appointed time, and a written estimate was eMailed to us within 48 Hrs. Then, when the work commenced, their Foreman, arrived at 1PM "on the dot" - which was the appointed time, and the work was completed over the course of two days. The end result was VERY satisfactory, and - to our complete AMAZEMENT, there was not a SINGLE bit of { post-sanding } dust to be found anywhere! NONE! In my opinion . . . they continue to be "a model" of what ALL sub-contractors & tradesmen should look like! read more

I love their work don't get me wrong I think they did a phenomenal job however what I am upset about is the fact that we agreed on a day for them to start work, I took off from my job and lost pay, and they didn't even come that day they came the next day. Thankfully I was off that next day but I was so mad that I lost pay and they didn't make it. To their credit they kept me informed that they were running behind but still it's a disservice to me. Their price is high but you get what you pay for and id rather spend and get it done right and enjoy the results then to go a cheaper route and have it subpar. read more

We just had our floors refinished by this wonderful company. From the first person you speak to to set up an appointment, to the supervisor who comes to give you an estimate, to the office staff and finally the men who come to do the work.....all are professional, courteous, helpful, excellent at their own job description and can't do enough to help you through this process with care and concern. Our floors look beautiful and they took their time, didn't rush and made sure we were perfectly satisfied with the outcome. Duffy's Floor Service was amazing from the first phone call. They came and gave an estimate and that is exactly what we paid. Our wood floors have never looked so good. April and Yvonne in the office were extremely helpful, professional and courteous. Sid and his crew were fantastic. They carefully moved all the furniture and put it back exactly as we directed them to. They did the job over three days and each day left the apartment in good condition. Duffys Floor Service is spot-on in every phase. Excellent workmanship: they did everything exactly as they said they would. It was a three day job and they informed me each day prior, when they would arrive and estimated finish time. When they were finished, there wasn't a speck of dirt or dust anywhere and the old, damaged wooden floors look brand new. Excellent office staff: professional, courteous and respond to every question, promptly. They give you "old school" professional service. Excellent price: Duffy's pricing is right. I hired them to sand floor and put down three coats of poly. The sanding job was good, but the poly coat they put down needs to be redone exactly a year later. $950 for one 12x7 room. Sounds very high to have to have it redone. They also tried to charge me to match the floor a few shades darker to the other rooms. So they left them a completely different color. That should have been agreed on in the scope of work and not added on when they are halfway through. The floor looks completely scratched up and must be redone again. what a waste! read more

Had my floors sanded, stained and sealed with a water based urethane. Very good, professional job at a reasonble price. Everything was explained fully and patiently and the cleanup was outstanding. Only drawback was a worker set my thermostat to 90 degrees ostensibly to hasten the drying process. They also forgot to lower it when they were finished and I walked into a sauna. Minus a star for that one. Otherwise, a good company. read more

They sanded my old wood floors and polyurethaned them. They did a wonderful job and I am very happy with it. I just had it done and can't believe how great it looks. They sealed off the rooms and staircase that weren't being done and even wrapped my blinds in plastic. Very little dust . I got a satin finish and the floors look beautiful. They called that they were running late on the first day and on the second day, they were there at the time they said. Two of my coworkers had recommended them and I will also recommend them. Just had our Floor Redone and it came out awsome. They came on time and worked hard. They where reasponsable and cared about the quality not just the money. During the sanding process they had the curtsy to tarp off the doors and lay cloths down over stuff we wanted to stay dust free. After they cleaned up and where very neat. The next day they came back to finish they also cleaned up after themselves and swept the area clean. Only thing that stopped me from giving a five is the communication between the office and the workers was not so great as they failed to call and confirm the day before causing us to have to get up early the morning they where scheduled to come and call them to find out. The other thing is the office people are not aware of what really gets done and what the job involves ans they said it was a DUSTLESS system and we where FINE to paint the walls first which was a mistake on our part for believing them. read more
