I've even researched how to get a bill introduced to the state legislation to force gas stations to install either a 240 volt power inverter and battery or a generator because it's stupid for homeowners to have a back up generator and not to be able to get gasoline for it in an emergency! I experienced that on August 14th, 2003 during the Great Midwest blackout, here in Westlake Ohio. We didn't even know where we could buy gas? How far we needed to drive to get it, so we went without. Now I store the maximum amount allowed of gasoline on my property, which is 20 gallons, and I have to rotate that every year or so to prevent bad gas.
