I found them on a search site, and saw that there was a reasonable service fee to come out for an estimate. I had to cancel the appointment due to other work being done at the house that took longer than expected. I called recently and rescheduled the appointment. Again I explained what I wanted done, and it seemed the guy understood what I was asking. I scheduled an appointment for today at noon. I asked the price of the service call, and he told me they did not charge a service call. Okay great...I was sure I saw a small service fee initially, but no fee works too. I just received a call this morning from a guy at XH asking what I wanted done. I was confused, because I assumed professionals took notes on these things. I explained again what I wanted, and after being told in the previous conversation that they needed to come out for an estimate, today he rattled off a price of $650 without seeing anything. I was shocked, because I had a couple other estimates for less than a third of the cost, but they were booked way out, and I wanted this done soon. So I mentioned this to the guy, and he said yes you should go with that, because that's what we charge just to come out. I said, "what is your charge for coming out...the $200 I was quoted by the other guys?" There is no $200 dollar service charge listed anywhere on their website, I was told there was no service charge when I scheduled the appointment, and no electrician is charging $200 for a service call. I don't know why this guy or this company decided they didn't want my business, but clearly that was the case. He correctly expected me to say no thanks when he quoted me a price of $650. I will assume I dodged a bullet on this one.

After another area electrician dropped the ball on some electrical work that was supposed to be…read moredone prior to our move-in, our lovely realtor swooped in to suggest we get a quote from Thompson Electric instead as a trusted area company. Thompson provided us a quote that seemed reasonable given the extent of work - primarily replacement of the electrical panel - and I was able to schedule a time with them for the job to be done. They must be in demand because it was about 3 weeks out! On the scheduled day, the electrician promptly arrived early in the morning and set-up shop in our garage to complete the work. He kept me updated about when the electric would be shut off, when it was back on, checked all of the rooms to be sure he could notate which switches went to which areas of the house, and then explained the new panel configuration when the job was done. He was out there working for most of the day and even put up some painted board around the panel to hide that the drywall out there had to be cut for the work to be done. I was expecting we'd have to patch that up ourselves and now it looks quite nice!

Wife and I have been working on our kitchen and it's been sometimes less than a fun task. We were in need of a simple pendant light and led low voltage under cabinet lighting. Home Depot and Lowe's certainly had a selection but not exactly where we were looking for. My wife found the exact pendant light that she wanted and although they could order you a new one they would sell you the one right off the floor for 35% off! Of course there was nothing wrong with it and we were elated to get this really cool light. Next we had to get some help with the low voltage LED lighting This is kind of a task specific lighting and it's not very easy to order or plan but fortunately our sales woman was ready and up to the task. Once we provided her with measurements we were able to see the styles of lighting that she had to offer and even offered to have the company design the wiring schematics for the lights which was fantastic. I wasn't exactly sure how long a run I could have or how many of these LED lights I can stack on a controller. Is it more expensive than home depot? Not by much. But what you get is somebody that knows their crap and knows how to help you. Step in Mars give it a shot see if they can help you. They were great to us.

Instead they looked it up the original purchase and specs, got with the vendor, determined the right parts, got us the right directions. Now we have a fan operating like new for a fraction of the cost of an uninstall, buy new, and reinstall. The 90s choice of MARS saved us money in '24 also.
