Jackleg work, simple fix, abjectly poor customer treatment After buying thousands of dollars worth of Schonbek fixtures - a large center hall chandelier, two sconces, two ceiling domes, and two smaller bedroom chandeliers - from Cleveland Lighting, here is the response I got when I asked them to fix the problem shown in the attached pictures: "Unfortunately, we would have a service call fee of $95. As mentioned these are secured at the factory and I'm not sure how much of an adjustment can be made. I could have someone available this Thursday afternoon. Let me know if you wish to proceed." The sconce in the photos was installed improperly. It should have been repaired without hesitation without charge by the store. You can see from the photos the Cleveland Lighting rep's statement, "fixed at the factory," is an inaccurate cop out sent by someone who just did not give a crap. Asking for a service fee was inappropriate and indicative of the kind of people who run Cleveland Lighting. Find a different lighting store. read more

Avoid doing business at this store. This is a store that cares nothing about customer service. Having owned a store myself and being very conscious of customer service, I am appalled at the customer service at Cleveland Lighting. After ordering thousands of dollars of lights over a year ago, we found ONE lighting fixture that fit our needs better for our dining room in an another store. So, we asked to return a BRAND NEW, UNOPENED fixture in the box for a refund. They insisted on a 25% restocking fee. This is outrageous. This is just a way for them to make more money on their lighting fixtures for doing absolutely nothing. They could care less about building any customer good will for any future lighting purchases. They obviously care more about making a buck than pleasing their customers. Yes, it was stated there would be a restocking fee but seriously? 25% ?? You spend thousands on fixtures and there is no room for an exception at times? You can be sure that I will make sure that anyone that asks me about purchasing lighting fixtures I will tell them of the poor customer service and will steer them to another store. My wife, daughter and I went to Cleveland Lighting to find some new lights for my bathroom. I was still dressed in my suit from working working at the Hospital just to give you an idea of our appearance. We walked in and and were not acknowledged by anyone up front. Made our way to where the bathroom lights were to find an employee helping another customer. It seemed like we were in her way by just looking around. Today was final straw with lamps that don't last!! I found myself driving east to Cleveland lightning. What a wonderful place and experience. Diane helped me with my immediate needs. (Couldn't wait to order so bought displays!) . Everyone helped out to pack it up and place in my car. I look forward to returning for more lighting needs. Had a wonderful experience with the team at Cleveland Lighting One. My wife and I selected fixtures for our entire home with Diane. She was professional, prompt with her proposals and very knowledgeable. All the lights arrived on time and look beautiful after installation. This was our first time shopping for lighting, so we did not know what to expect. The prices were very competitive and the level of service that we received was the major difference from the other lighting retailers we visited. Went there last few weekends ago, huge selection and amazing show room. I needed a lot of help with a warehouse project and show room. Took a bit time but we worked out all the kinks and now I have an amazing showroom. I do think lighting is very important to setting up the moral of workers and customer interests. They don't need to be pretty they need to function realiably. read more

We had a lot of trouble getting our fixture from them. It was delayed several times from the manufacturer but they didn't even let us know, we just had to call several times to see why we hadn't heard about it being ready to pick up. Then when we finally got it (4 months later) and had it installed, 4 of the 8 sockets didn't work. They sent someone over but he was unable to fix it. Now 4 months later from that we're driving back over again to pick up a replacement. This whole thing is ridiculous and they've provided really poor customer service. read more

I have gone into this store several times and left for the same reason repeatedly. Poor Customer Service! Customers are not acknowledged or greeted. You generally have to locate someone for assistance. Representatives are not friendly and do not seem interested in helping clients. I've visited the store several times to look at their fixture options. Whenever I walk in the store, the salespeople sitting at the front desk barely acknowledge me and never offer any assistance. I guess if you're carrying the latest designer handbag, their salespeople assume you can't afford their fixtures. I purchased lighting for our new home from them and boy do I wish I hadn't. Yes they have a huge selection of lightening, sadly though don't stock most of it. This leads to my first complaint, charging retail prices AND passing freight charges to the customer without disclosing the information except for fine print on the receipt. Secondly, when we found a large scratch in our new fixture we received a very condescending attitude from the customer service staff upon calling and asking for an exchange. If it weren't for the 25% restocking fee I'd return the merchandise and shop on-line for a 25% discount including the shipping charges. So much for supporting local business. Bottom line: Beautiful showroom - ugly customer service, hidden freight charges, and silly return policy. I had a really bad experience here which I think other customers should be aware of. 1) Change in store policy where they won't place an order without full payment up front. This was different than when I worked with them in the past, and different from the way most companies handle contractors and large institutions. 2) The salesperson I ordered from left while I was in the middle of a large project and no one else at the store knew about what we had agreed on. It took lots of unanswered emails and voicemails before I talked to someone else at the store who informed me of her departure. 3) Serious attitude from the new salesperson we worked with. When our order finally arrived I called her to say I'd be arriving in 20 minutes. We'd made a payment in full based on their invoice. Then she tacked on $40 freight charge which was never discussed and made a big deal about it. This after spending $5-6k this summer at their store and having a terrible experience because of the old sales rep leaving without anyone else there picking up her slack. Based on my experience if they're willing to treat a large institution like this (where lots of repeat business usually comes from) they'd treat individual buyers even worse. 4) She said that they need more notice than 20 minutes for a pick up (no one had ever informed me of that) and that's not how it worked in the past. Plus, most of the time nicer light stores deliver on-site. Then we were unsure if everything would fit in one go and were told there would be a storage fee if I didn't move all of it at once. 5) The warehouse guys loading the van also had bad manners and made me incredibly uncomfortable. The amount of hidden fees, stress, and inconsistencies at this place is staggering. I will be very happy to take my business elsewhere from now on. read more

Had a great experience from start to finish. I was blown away by the selection. We recently moved and needed to change a decent amount of lighting in the house. The sales force was friendly and helpful. Some areas we were more concerned on style and others (like the basement) we wanted to stay within a budget. They made the shopping experience easy and fun. Install went smooth and seamless - the guys showed up on time, were friendly and cared about their work. They didn't seam to be in a rush - they took their time! Painless ordering process, my fixtures arrived ahead of schedule and had they not made sure I had all the correct bulbs and added dimmers, these would have been a multi trip nightmare. Cleveland Lighting was a pleasure to work with. Our experience started in their beautiful showroom and was followed by prompt and professional installation of a couple of fixtures in our home. Unfortunately, one of the fixtures was defective. Marty (the owner) was very responsive to our problem and Tim (the installer/repairman) replaced the fixture once the replacement was delivered. Correcting these types of problems is a key element of customer service and one often ignored by the contractor community. Horrible, horrible, horrible!!!!! We bought all of our lights there for our custom built home. We have had issues with our kitchen pendants from the beginning. The cord set and socket burns out and the lights need to be rewired. We have now done this at LEAST 5 times now. We have to pay when it's rewired. They will not offer us replacement lights nor even give us a discount towards new ones. Poor customer service after we spent thousands of dollars on lights at this store. Very disappointed to say the least. read more

I ordered 3 pendent lights from this company( In April), with the understanding that 2 would be in the following wk. I took the one home, (it would have matched perfectly in my new kitchen) did not have it install (waiting for the other 2), and I'm GLAD I didn't! I'TS JULY! I was told repeatedly next wk., next wk. Call the end of June, was told they had a shipment coming in July1, it would be inventoried and ready by July 5. I CALLED July 6, was told my PAID FOR lights were NOT IN. I told the smart person, I had had enough and was bringing it back. I got "O.K.". Five minutes later, I got a call from GREG saying " Good news, your lights are in. "O.K." was my response. I went in the store July 8, was told no, sorry my lights weren't in and that they don't give back cash (415.25) ONLY CHECKS that are mailed out once a wk. REALLY??? POOR, POOR customer service. I got my check, will NEVER go to that place again, and will NEVER recommend it to ANYONE! Cleveland Lighting SUCKS! read more
