I have been a Duff's regular for over four years, and to me, the place can do no wrong. Five stars easily. Here's a list of pros and cons though, just so this review can be a LITTLE objective. Pros: -$3 PBRs (only $1 during happy hour, which is three hours long) -Lots of friendly metalheads, especially after midnight on weekends -Bartenders who aren't shy about buybacks -Regular visits from the owner, who is also very friendly -EXCELLENT music on the jukebox -If you go in early on weekdays, there are occasionally really cute tourist guys :D Cons: -Somewhat crowded, especially after hours on weekends -Very, very, very, very loud, especially after hours on weekends -Occasional hipster infestations -No beer taps -- not a big deal for me, but some people care about that kind of thing read more

Can not rave about this place enough, if you are into the harder things in life with music then this is your mecca. It should feel more touristy but it has a hoodie vibe to it. Found this place after hearing this was the joint operated by the former owner of the Bellevue Bar in the Times Square area. You got your PBR, you got your cheap shots and you got your memorabilia from Slayer to Pantera. The bartenders are intentionally attractive, the place borderlines sterile for being so sterile however with a place that is destined to become a temple you can provide forgiveness. read more

I went to this place several weeks ago after reading reviews here. It was more than I expected. Cheap beers, hot bartenders, loud music. People were friendly, and talkative. Bartender bought be a few rounds. Definitely recommend it. read more

If you're looking for a true metal bar, you will not be disappointed at Duff's. Great music, great service, great crowd.

This bar is pretty much everything a metal bar should be. The drinks are reasonably priced, the kitschy decor is 3/4 metal, 1/4 pinup. During my visit a small TV was playing softcore porn from the early 90s. One of the more unique things about this bar would be the "Wheel of Misfortune". $3 a spin is guaranteed to inject some novelty into your evening, but not for the faint of heart. The small but well curated jukebox has a good mix of old and newer metal of pretty much all subgenres, making this a great stop for metal heads of all kinds. read more

Peter Steele from Type O Negative used to frequent this bar. That's enough to earn it a 5-star rating right off the bat in my book. This is a special bar and I will be sad when it eventually succumbs to the rising rents and turns into a juice bar or boutique pet store. read more

THIS BAR IS TRULY SOMETHING ELSE. First off not only was the bartender the most beautiful and sweet girl I've met she gave me a sticker and a guitar pick. This place is amazing there's a freaking electric chair!!!! truly fits all my metal needs and the vibe is so spooky and twinpeaky it's perfect. Already been at Duff's and yes, it smell, lots of drunk people, puke on the street, sometimes some boobs hanging around, you see everything here. That's what a Dive bar is all about. read more

Great metal bar, the bartenders are friendly/cool atmosphere. The old school jukebox has a great selection of metal & the owners changes up the cd's a lot so you don't get bored with the same ol' music. I always have a great time definitely recommend! & don't forget to spin the wheel ;) read more

This place started off in the still kinda gritty Hell's Kitchen, but has recently packed up its skulls and taxidermy to Williamsburg. Wanting to get crunk and loud is sort of key if you've playing on heading to Duff's. The heavy metal jukebox is loud, loud, loud and so, be prepared to yell your way thtough conversations. Duff's has a lovely patio, which is nice in summer time and the drink specials are so cheap you should defintely head to here if you need to drown your sorrows in a pint or alternatively, let out some anger with the aid of a strong whiskey. Went here on my last night in NYC and had a blast. It made my trip and whenever I remember New York I'll remember Duff's. It reminded me a lot of where I'm from (Richmond) which is what I was looking for after doing all the touristy stuff and fancy roof top bars a few days in a row, which are not my scene anyways. It was a Sunday so not the usual crowds that I'm sure they get on a Friday or Saturday, but we met a couple other tourists to talk to and share turns on the free all metal jukebox (what an awesome idea). Also the wheel of fortune style game with beers and t-shirts for prizes! What more could you ask for read more

I showed up right at the beginning of happy hour and didn't leave 'til the end, and the place was empty. I got all the $1 Pabsts and everyone else in Williamsburgh got laid. Eh. Cool, very small, metal and punk bar, formerly held by Jimmy Duff of Bellvue Bar in Hell's Kitchen. Lotsa scary stuff and pinuppy things, but the cheap beer will bring me back. Outside seating for the smokers too. But seriously, there was nobody in there from 6 'til 9. What's that about? read more

I was riding down kent street on my bike and i happened to see the neon SLAYER sign in the window and was instantly drawn to it... Duff's is a breath of fresh air.. it's the opposite of pretentious and is more 80's jersey than 2007 williamburg. When we first got there it was sort of quiet but picked up by the end of the evening. The other patrons (regulars?) were super friendly.. and got up to some rowdy antics such as dancing on the bar, taking shirts off. One dude even bought us a drink.. such is the friendliness of people there... especially when they get wasted! The jukebox isn't bad either - Celtic Frost, The Sword, Sabbath, Megadeath, Iron Maiden, King Diamond.. but i was disappointed that it wasn't all metal - they even had Abba (i played gimme gimme gimme for a joke!) and Velvet Underground. Also they need more swedish death metal \m/... We even got to see Jimmy Duff.. who looks like one to the zz tops guys. I was remarking to my friend that I bet that's Duff.. and sure enough it was.. the highlight of the evening for me was seeing Duff's hearse parked outside with the lionhead transfer on the hood. I only with there were more people like this in williamsburg and new york city in general! read more

I've been to the new location. It's cool and all, but nothing like the old bar, and that just sucks.

After a show at St. Vitus, my friends took me to this bar for the first time. I have to say that if I am ever in NY again I have to go back here. I enjoyed the metal vibe this bar had and the jukebox has a fantastic selection. The bartenders here were very friendly and attentive. I also like all the 1970 grindhouse posters they had and was envious that they aren't hanging on my wall. If you are into metal and getting a cheap drink then Duff's is the place. read more

I loved the old old location in the city when it used to be called Bellevue then it moved to new very very small place in Williamsburg which I wasn't too crazy about but it just moved several blocks away to an even better place then the original one. I like the decor as it always has been very provocative and not for everyone's taste. The new location doesn't have patio but it has a pretty good size room in the back where you can enjoy your poison with friends. You can always find somebody there that you haven't seen since high school which is pretty cool. The owner is an awesome guy that resembles Rob Zombie. The new location was a great move! read more

Descend down the stairs into...an awesome theme bar! The entire place is decked from top to bottom with rock/metal/horror posters. They play music in the background. Metalhead or not, it's a cool place to chill and drink! read more

I Love Duff's! I was visiting family in the NYC area over the Christmas holiday, and a friend of mine said this was a must-see for me, since he knows I love metal. He took me there and I didn't want to leave! The bartenders and patrons were all very friendly and I really enjoyed the decor. I wish there was a "Duff's South" here in Atlanta! read more

took my boyfriend here for happy hour (he lovesss metal) and this place was pretty much everything the reviews said $1 PBR till 9, you can't really get much better than that, the bartender was away from the bar at 9 so when we got another pbr at like 9:05 she gave us it for the $1 price. Bartender was really really friendly, you walk in and everyone says hello to you! happy hour was slow but not dead there was a few people sitting at the bar and coming in and out I thought the music was a little bit loud for being 7pm, it was like how loud music should be at 1am when everyones wasted and yelling, but good music worth the trip to brooklyn if you live in the city. read more

Loud jukebox, rockin' people, awesome bartenders and cheap drinks - what's not to love?!

We took this place over for my graduation party....an appropriate amount of low-brow atmosphere for earning a master's degree. I enjoyed it. The decor is awesome, the drinks are cheap, the bartenders (male and female) are cute, the bathroom is (shockingly enough) pretty clean. It's small and awesome. They'll mix some goth music in with the metal. Be careful though....my friend's car was unfortunately broken into one street away. I didn't really think that would be an issue in Williamsburg, but I guess it was. read more

This place is perfect in its own way. The best way to describe it is to say that it evolved over the years into what it is. Its honest and you know what to expect the moment you walk in there. There are metal and punk posters on the wall that have collected over the years. The place can pretty much be hosed down at the end of the night to get rid of the broken glass and spilled beer. The jukebox is stocked with metal and punk. Its dirty, dimly lit and the crowd is pretty rough but friendly. I had a great time. read more

This is my favorite bar in Williamsburg, by far. The only place I can actually have a drink, and not be making fun at the hipsters with their stupid clothing and absurd conversations.. Cool people, cool bartenders, cheap drinks, and it opens late. I've seen the sun come out more than a few times while still drinking at the porch. Yes you can smoke and drink in the outside porch. If you cant stand metal, dont come. read more

One of my favorite bars besides Lucky 13. The drinks are inexpensive, good people and great music.
