I'm a new homeowner. I recently bought a house built in the 1940s, and while we love the place, it…read morehas a... smell. The previous owners had dogs, cats, and a penchant for leaving food, old shoes, and other trash behind and under the appliances. After living here for about a month, doing SO much cleaning, and still feeling like we were in an allergen pit, we opted for duct cleaning. Karl was friendly and communicative with a competitive price. Christian and Zeke came to the house early. They treated the home with respect, wearing shoe covers and cleaning up diligently, despite it being a dirty job. They had different methods for different vent styles, and helped with a few above and beyond tasks, like re-shaping a bent duct. Christian and Zeke suggested that the ducts of my home had never been cleaned, ever, based on the quantity and type of stuff they were finding. It seemed like a pretty intense job, but they were in good spirits the whole time. My dog was nervous about all the noisy tools- shop-vacs, leaf blowers, etc.- but the guys were so sweet to her, she wanted them to stay. I'm not kidding, the air quality is IMMEDIATELY better in this house, and the smell is wildly improved- maybe even gone. No, this is probably not a service you regularly need, but if your house is pushing 100 years old and reeks, treat yourself to a visit from Ugly Ductling.

There are so many Air Duct Cleaning Companies out there and many are very expensive. Duct HVAC…read moreProfessor in Prospect Heights has a BBB Rating of A. HVAC Professor is extremely reasonable with its pricing. They were extremely prompted for our appointment time scheduled. Angel and Juan did an Awesome job cleaning all our vents completely in an hour and one half. Angel and Juan were both very courteous and respectful working around our home. They were very efficient and worked well together. We are very happy with them working for HVAC Professor. We recommend them highly! Thank you so much for your hard work Angel and Juan!

DO NOT HIRE. If I could give zero stars, I would. I originally hired Duct Professor to fix my home…read moreAC, and they ended up charging me over $1,300 for six incredibly frustrating visits, a string of misdiagnoses, and unauthorized repairs. The first two technicians they sent spent hours troubleshooting but completely failed to find the issue. Instead of properly diagnosing the system, they installed a non-OEM control board without my knowledge or consent. This unauthorized part risked causing further damage to my electrical system through power fluctuations. When that didn't fix the AC, they guessed the AC contactor was the problem and replaced it twice to no avail. It wasn't until the sixth visit that a senior tech finally came out and identified the actual root cause: a damaged low-voltage power line leading from the AC to the house. This is a fundamental issue that should have been caught on day one. Dealing with a broken AC in the middle of summer is hard enough, but enduring a dragged-out, six-visit ordeal with a newborn baby in the house made their incompetence a complete nightmare. Ultimately, because they left my system compromised, I had to hire an entirely different, independent HVAC company to actually fix the problem. To make matters worse, I sent a detailed email to Duct Professor management outlining these failures and requesting a refund for the misdiagnoses and unauthorized parts. They completely ignored me. No follow-up, no apology, no attempt to make it right. Save your money, your time, and your sanity--look elsewhere.

My AC was really struggling during this heat wave so I called the company and they sent someone out…read morethe next morning. Great! The tech told me there was a definite leak in the system but because of the age of the unit he didn't recommend trying to find the leak. He said he could still fill with more coolant and charge it up and that should at a minimum get me through the heat wave. I asked him to set up an appointment for a quote on a new service, which he did for the next day. I was very happy with the tech and service call. The salesperson the next day, however, was another story. He tried to pressure me into going with the company for a full HVAC replace in the next day or he couldn't credit me for a portion of the work the tech did (note, he did magically find another discount when I said I would be taking a week or two to make a decision so that I could get multiple quotes on such an expensive project). He asked how he compared to other bids and I said the other bid I had gotten so far told me I only had to replace the air conditioner so I didn't consider it comparable. I noted I wasn't just price shopping, I wanted to understand why the things that were being recommended were being recommended. The salesperson replied that anyone who told me I did not need to replace the entire system needed his head examined and look at when it was manufactured, it's 20 years old! You have to take it out of the closet anyway to get to the other unit (which is the opposite of what another company told me). Now, I would have had no problem with him telling me that the unit is working fine now, I'm certainly living on borrowed time and the risks are that I pay double labor for installation; that's all true and I'm aware of that fact. But the way he responded was SO off-putting and completely avoided the substance that it pretty much made me write off going with this company no matter how other bids come in. All in all, a very mixed experience.
