They put maybe 3 pieces of coconut on each donut! And, we can barely taste the LEMON in the LEMON frosting. It's a SUGAR lemon frosting. And, the donut cake consistency is MUSH. Disappointed and Frustrated - A Birthday Treat Gone Wrong I don't usually leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience after a frustrating morning trying to get a simple birthday donut for my daughter. I placed a mobile order at Duck Donuts in Woodbridge, VA at 8:33 AM for two donuts and a coffee, and the app confirmed it would be ready for pickup at 8:44 AM. Since the store's listed opening time is 8:30 AM, I assumed everything was on track. When I arrived, however, the doors were locked and there was a handwritten note on the door saying, "Fryer busted, open at 9." This was incredibly disappointing--especially since this was supposed to be a special breakfast treat to kick off my daughter's birthday. I didn't have the luxury to wait until 9:00 AM, so I left and later called the store at 9:14 AM to see if I could cancel my order OR pick it up later in the day when I get my daughter from school. To my surprise, the young woman who answered (Valerie) told me the order had already been made, they were now open, and no, I could not get a refund or pick up this afternoon and I should pick the order up now. When I asked to speak with the manager, she claimed she was the manager. When I asked for her name, she suddenly "couldn't hear me" and hung up. (I had to call back to get it) I'm incredibly frustrated by the lack of professionalism and care. If the store wasn't able to fulfill orders at opening time, the app should not have accepted my order--especially with a specific pickup window before they were even operational. Mistakes happen, but the bare minimum should be decent customer service and clear communication, which were both severely lacking here. To add insult to injury, I've had previous odd experiences at this location, like being told there's a minimum order of two donuts when I tried to just get one. That was strange, but I let it go. This time, however, was the final straw. I won't be returning, and it's a shame because we used to enjoy coming here. Definitely more Dunk'n style than Krispy Kreme, the customizable toppings being layered on to a freshly fried donut made to order is fantastic. Better yet, the donuts taste just as good at room temp as they do hot. I've taken to eating half my donut as soon as I get it so that the the gooey, warm toppings build a party in my mouth and then eating the other half later once to get a flavor bomb. I'm somewhat surprised by all of the negatives about service as I've always found them speedy, friendly and easy to talk to. The place was jam packed at this particular visit and they told me it would take about 20 minutes, but they got it out in about 10. The place is also very clean, which is impressive given they are working with about 20 toppings for donuts. I would suggest you stick to the donuts though. Only one of the restrooms was for patrons, the other was for employees. The customer's restroom was dirty and had a jammed paper towel dispenser. The main area could have used a sweeping. I gotta be honest, I have not ever really enjoyed visiting this location because of the guest services but today was different. The young ladies that took care of Maverick and I were so kind! As soon as we walked in we were greeted and welcomed warmly. We were served promptly and accurately and the donuts are FIRE! Hot and FRESH! Thanks for the great service. It's hard to find these days. I went here for 1 reason. Fresh donuts. I don't remember how long it took, I don't even remember who made my donuts, I just remember my ticket being called, and enjoying a dozen with co-workers. The donuts are fried on demand, and are flavored to your desire. I do admit they are over generous with toppings which may turn some people off, I didn't too much care since It isn't my business, poor guy, and per other reviews it would be great if they had a chipotle like setup. There happened to be one my boyfriend and I came across while we were out Wednesday, July 21, 2021. After we had dinner, we stopped by and I ordered half a dozen donuts. Very picturesque, if I must say so. The donuts I chose were; Peach Pie, Peach Cobbler, Blueberry Crumble, Strawberry Shortcake, Coffee Cake, and the Lemon Icing with Strawberry Drizzle. The donuts were warm and gooey and smelled amaze-balls! They had tables and chairs to dine-in, as well as coffee to order. We decided to take ours home. Now, I can't say these are the best donuts I've ever eaten, but they are pretty darn good. They aren't very cakey, and they aren't the lightest donuts either. Sort of a mix between the two. Moving to Virginia from California recently one of the things I've noticed is the severe lack of unique donut shops. 90% of donut shops are mom and pops on the west coast so when I was finally able to find a place that wasn't Dunkin Donuts I was all in to drive the 20 minutes to go there. Unfortunately when I arrived it was closed. I checked the hours on yelp and on the store door and it surely should've been open as I was there at 8:50am.
