The worker did not even say anything to us as we walked up, he proceeded to mess with the coffee cups for at least three minutes before asking us what we would like to order as we stood there. Then proceeded to not ring up the order correctly causing a whole donut to be left out and the other to be made wrong. Will not ever be coming back. read more

These donuts are amazing, especially if you eat them right away when they're nice and warm, they are delicious. The only negative thing probably I have to say is there is always a long wait because they do decorate each donut individually which is time consuming. We have gone into several duck donuts always to see a long line so we left, but this last time when we stopped and waited we were very pleasantly surprised at how good they were so I know why there's a long line. Definitely give them a try and eat them as quick as possible while they're warm because there's so much better than when they cool off. read more

I'm always overwhelmed (in a good way) with the Smorgasbord of flavors and topping flavors at this chain. When they get cold they have a waxy texture. So I recommend watching them in the next hour after point of sale. read more

I love the concept this place presents. Basically a make your own doughnut place. You pick basically everything that makes up the doughnut. They were very tasty and a great, lazy breakfast. If you want these doughnuts I have to suggest that you make it here early. The one day that we did decide to get these we drug our feet getting here and didn't realize the hours. Our bad mistake. We did get them the next day and we were so very happy that we did. Definitely the perfect way to start the day. read more

Fresh out of the fryer... hot and delicious nice crusty outside with a soft cake center. (insert the excitement of the sprint framily lady about tacos) 2 words... maple bacon OMG.... the bacon bits were smoky and balanced that overly sweet maple.Yes... it was like pancakes with bacon. Loved it.... So... the skinny on my purchase a bucket of 18 donuts... to share.... and lets just say in 2 days those donuts were gone. The flavors I tried were lemon iced, strawberry iced with chocolate sprinkles, peanut butter and maple bacon. All so delicious. The lemon iced was like a lemon pound cake and the strawberry was refreshing too not a heavy glaze. Peanut butter icing needed the bacon... when we arrived at the store it was a bit hectic so I didn't get a chance to ask about it.(Even though the website offers it as a topping). Overall... lesson arrive early... the earlier the fresher your donuts and you won't be sorry.And even if you wait a while for them to cool... the donuts are still amazing. I hope bacon remains as a permanent topping... its just that good. read more

Okay so after I had read all of the 5 star reviews I guess I really got my hopes up for this delicious duck donut. They were good but in all honesty my husband make much better homemade donuts...so I am going to give them 4 stars. We went off season and they weren't very busy at all. We ordered a dozen. It is neat to watch the donut machine make the donuts and the employees put the toppings of your choice on right away. We go a variety of donuts from glazed to chocolate, strawberry, powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar. Would I eat another duck donut...yes....do I see myself craving them and needing to go there right away...no. read more

Delicious, hot and fresh donuts, paired with fast and friendly service made our visit to Duck Donuts amazing! These were the best cake donuts I've ever had, all of their donuts are vanilla cake, but they can be cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar covered, glazed, vanilla, chocolate, maple or lemon iced with sprinkles, coconut or peanuts added on top! We found the donuts were moderately priced and they even have a near kids combo with a donut, milk and a souvenir frisbee. They have a good selection of coffee and espresso drinks as well! I enjoyed a whit chocolate espresso and it was fantastic! You'd be missing out if you didn't stop by Duck Donuts on your next visit to the Outer Banks! read more

They only have cake doughnuts and I don't care for cake doughnuts, so with that being said... I ordered two doughnuts, a glazed and a cinnamon glazed vanilla drizzle. Both the doughnuts were freshly made and very warm when I ate them. Both were very good and didn't taste like a cake doughnut, so that was nice. I didn't care for the stronger coffee (I forget the name of it, it was particularly strong). Other people in party enjoyed their doughnuts and coffee to the extent of a 5 star review, but hey, this isn't their Yelp! account, so 4 it is, but for real it was good and I'd recommend. read more

So I'm typically not a donut or sweets person, and I'm all about healthy and organic. But this place... Definitely worth the stop. Best donuts I've ever had. The donuts themselves are cakey, moist, and just the perfect texture. The toppings are not ultra sweet and do not taste "fake" (that's the only way I can think to describe typical donut toppings). Will stop again when we come me back to OBX! read more

My review is entirely based on what others have told me about these donuts because they don't have any gluten-free options, but that's ok because I can see why. When we came to pick up a big order for the fam, there was a considerable line around 9am already on a Friday morning. I could see the two tiny machines cranking out the globs of dough right into the hot oil and then launching them out the other end. Which is how I can see it would be impossible for them to do gluten free because they would have had to switch out the entire container that plopped out the dough and it would still be shared oils so there's not really much point. But I also hate them a little for that because it smelled SO GOOD and all of their frosting combos were creative and very drool-inducing. They instantly disappeared as soon as we put the box on the kitchen counter. So don't let my bitterness because I couldn't partake sway you! read more

Donuts and Coffee/Espresso are fantastic, service is impeccably friendly. Everything is prepared fresh right in front of you, it's fun to watch the process. Only exception is the breakfast sandwich, they have to go to the back for that, it's a processed egg product patty thing and processed cheese. I opted for the bacon, it was chewy and soggy as of it had been microwaved, because it likely had been. If you like Starbucks breakfast sandwiches, this is on par. I was just hoping for something more in the caliber of the donuts. If I'd stuck with their main stay and just had coffee and donuts, it would have been five stars. read more

It's not a vacation in OBX without duck donuts. They have endless options and the combination of toppings is endless. They are always hand made right in front of you and served warm. No visit to the Outer Banks is complete without a visit (or two or three) to Duck Donuts, a local institution with six locations along the coast. Delivered hot, fresh and made to order, with your choice of coating, toppings and drizzle, they're gooey perfection in a box. We stopped by almost daily for a delicious half-dozen, each time racing back to the hotel to devour them before they cooled. If you've never had a Duck Donut, there's no better place to try them than at one of their OBX locations (there are franchises nationwide, but it's not the same). Get there early, be patient, and don't be afraid to ask for help if you're a first timer. If you don't feel comfortable designing your own donut, you can choose from one of the many favorites listed on the order form. While you're there, don't forget to grab a cup of their wonderful coffee on your way out. It won't take long for you to understand why no other donut shop can compare to the Duck. read more

Initially, I was bummed because cortados were not on the menu. I asked the barista if she would try to make one. She said sure. I gave her general directions and she walked to the espresso machine. A couple of minutes later she handed me a cup with two shots of espresso and a stainless steel pitcher with steamed milk. The barista said, "Why don't you add the milk in so you get it just the way you want." I thought this was a thoughtful gesture. I thanked her and made my cortado. We chatted a bit. It turned out she is Thai and my husband is Thai; and I love to talk about Thailand. I took a few pictures. We exchanged goodbyes and I exited the cafe with a genuine smile and a very positive impression of the Outer Bean. Smiles are free and they can elevate and/or improve any situation.
