While I prefer the KDH Duck Donuts to this one. I still love the donuts. Clearly the same mix is used so you'll find consistency there no matter what. The KDH location employees seem to take greater care in the preparation. My donuts from this location were sloppily glazed and chucked into the box. The donuts are piled on the tray after frying instead of placed in neat rows, which leaves the bottom donuts squished and soggy. This location just seems to not have the pride that the other one does in their product. We ordered a dozen donuts (maple bacon glazed, powdered, vanilla glazed, lemon glazed, cinnamon-sugar and chocolate coconut) and three cups of orange juice. Their cooler only had two orange juices and after asking the cashier for another, she mentioned it to a co-worker who promptly forgot. We waited for our donuts, received them and still no orange juice. After asking yet again, an employee said, "She's supposed to be getting it," throwing her thumb over her shoulder. Gee, thanks. We finally got our last juice and were able to get enough seats outside. We ate our slightly soggy donuts and got on the road back to NoVA. I'll be sure to pass this location up and grab my donuts from the KDH location next time. read more

Amazing! My first time eating at this chain, and 5-hours later I still can't stop talking about them. Best donut I've had in my lifetime. What makes it so great... how about the freshness, made to order, toppings galore, eating it with a fork, melting in your mouth, type of awesome! The donuts here are really amazing, I dunno how other donut places survive in the OBX. The texture of the donut is perfect - not too cakey and not too doughy. I also like that they keep it simple with not too many crazy flavor concoctions. I had a taste of a few varieties. My favorites were (in order): cinnamon sugar, frosted rainbow sprinkles, and bacon maple icing. Parking in this parking lot can get a little crazy around dinner time! What a treat! I had the cinnamon sugar and the glazed and both were divine. They were light, airy and not greasy--surprising since they were fresh from the fryer! They have a nice location right across the Hilton Garden Inn next to High Cotton, so save your money on the hotel breakfast and get two donuts and a coffee for 4 bucks instead :) Coupons are available in most of the ad books and they have cute t-shirts and rubber ducks which make the perfect gift. read more

They make the donuts right in front of you, then they CREATE your special donut. Warm & Insanely good. I ordered 2 dz of choc w/Raspberry drizzle....I also had the Bacon & cream cheese, so good. We live 4.5 hrs from the OBX, in DC...when I tell you that, all those donuts were DEMOLISHED by me and my hubby. LOVE Duck Donuts. The closest one for us here in Johnstown is Hershey or Pittsburgh. Get here early because the line forms quick! They have a wide variety of donuts you can create. The best part - all cake donuts. I love the orange dreamsicle that they did for this summer. We got a dozen - half of them were gone by the time we hit the NC/VA border. The other didn't last long the next day. You can watch them make your order. You can actually watch them from start to finish. Duck Donuts has expanded, but they remain welcoming and hospitable to everyone! Overall, you MUST visit this place when you are in the Outer Banks its delicious and iconic in the Outer Banks area.
