If there is a business I am on the search for more than ones coffee-related, it is those of the pastry orientation. And especially ones with doughnuts. Glazed, cake, stuffed, seasonal; I want them all! And I will likely order them all. So by proxy I have a mental list of such establishments that I keep a eye out for (most recently, Voodoo Doughnuts) and Duck Doughnuts is one of them. Little did I know, until just a week ago, that there is a location in Winchester. The morning of my visit could not have been more perfect for a first timer. Rain was drizzling, but not heavy. The sky was overcast. The temps were low, but not frigid. And that Shenandoah Valley wind was just the right amount of chilling. I went in with high expectations. Here's what happened. I began to peruse the menu and soon realized that I would be making many a visit before obtaining a full understanding of all they have to offer. So I settled on the blueberry pancake and the holiday sprinkle (seasonal) with a cup of coffee (only $5.99). What I then learned is that each doughnut is 1) a cake doughnut (just for those who favor/don't favor this type of doughnut), 2) is made to order (as in the toppings and/or stuffing), and 3) they all come out warm! The coffee is a medium roast, but on the darker side. Just a FYI. I sat down at the window bench and looked out on the dismay day that was about to get exponentially better. The doughnuts, for the short period of time they lasted, were a work of art (be sure to check out my photos). They paired well with the coffee and left me wishing I had made the bigger commitment of ordering half a dozen. But there will be more visits in the future. Until then, I recommend you stop in to pick up a few (or more) and know that you can also order ahead of time (via online). read more

So thankful to have a donut shop that makes a hot and fresh donut to order! My family and I have been here a few times already. We've placed our order at register, through the app, and on their digital screen where you can bypass the line (and get reward points for the app)! The app is definitely the easiest. My go to donut is peanut butter glaze, bacon and marshmallow drizzle. My wife and I just discovered the donut breakfast sandwich. GAME CHANGER!!! The staff and owners have been very welcoming and personal. The inside is very clean, and we thoroughly enjoy the openness where the boys enjoy watching the workers make the donuts. Felt like I was a ghost. Never got the least utterance of sound, let alone a thank you when I said thanks and have a good night. Especially rude and distasteful for a tasty donut joint. I usually tell people about this place and their great donuts but after today I will tell them about the rude and non-existent service. This is my second time visiting duck donuts. I'm absolutely in love with their donuts except for the chocolate flavors. I think if you're a lover of dark chocolate then you'll love those flavors. Not sure what the hype is with Duck Donuts. On the positive side, the toppings and customization is pretty great. But they only have one "cake" unlike other brands. And while the store itself was very clean, the customer service is mixed. The person taking the order was very helpful and polite, but the person(s) at the delivery end of the line seemed cold and just pushing boxes. Unimpressed. They've been one a few weeks and still seem overwhelmed like they just opened. The employees are kind, but they're stumbling over each other. Also they're out of bacon at 9 am on a Friday. And 1/10 of their menu is donuts with bacon on them, so that's 1/10 of the menu you can't order, going into the weekend. My family and I love Duck Donuts. We bring friends and family here each time they come to visit. Their donuts are freshly and constantly made not sitting on a shelf all day waiting for someone to purchase them. You never have to worry about them being out of your favorite donut since they are made when you order them. The employees are kind and patient. Vicki is a stand out for her courteousness. We have never had a bad experience there. Their milkshakes and their breakfast sandwiches made with a donut as the bread is great too. We come here weekly and will continue to do so. We had a really great experience at Duck Donuts yesterday morning 7/23! All the staff members were very polite and eager to help. Our order had a small mistake that I missed when they asked me if everything looked good, once I realized and went back in to have it corrected they even offered a second delicious donut to make up for the mistake. Have been several times and donuts are always good. Very sweet and always have festive offerings so a fun treat. What's disappointing is the coffee. They offer a variety of coffee beverages, but each of the 3 times I've ordered coffee, they never make it. It's like the order gets lost in the mix of the donut orders and I have to go up and ask they make it. Super frustrating, most recently today it happened again. They got busy so gave them benefit of the doubt, but after 30 min I asked for a refund and they said they don't offer refunds. So don't expect to be able to get specialty coffee with your donuts. read more
