I've only been here twice and I will say I love the variety Duck Donuts has to offer. My only issue is the donuts are freshly made (which is nice) however, they are so warm that the toppings usually soak in/melt off the donuts. They've been somewhat messy both times I've gotten them and some actually tasted outright mushy. Staff is friendly and quick, but I personally don't like soggy donuts, even if it means they're made to order. If they had a little time to cool off, that would make a big difference for me. read more

Very unique donut offering that I would go to again - I wish they didn't do exclusively cake donuts because I'll take the non-cake donuts every time. Duck Donuts has no peers when it comes to customizing donuts - I mean usually you just choose what they have available but here? I want caramel glaze, I want a "Smores" donut, I want an "Apple Struedel" donut - I want caramel drizzle/sugar donut with coconut flakes. The variations are virtually unlimited (I'm sure some math major just calculated the actual number of unique options is 6,229). We ordered a dozen, took them on the plane, landed three time zones away and then reheated with midnight coffee and they still tasted wonderful. I can only imagine how great they taste straight out of their little deep fried river (see the pic). I won't go through all the donuts we had - but the smores donut stood our for me and she highlight her "make your own" - bacon/peanut butter/maple drizzle. There were no "clunkers" from the five consumers of the donut. I know they exist from other reviews but while the customization is very unique this is not a destination drive. I'd stop by on occasion if I lived near one but not going 30 minutes in the other direction - something you would do for certain establishments. But if you haven't tried them, give them a try - also you can customize online and have it ready when you get there (that is what I did). read more

Being next to the grocery store location I frequent, it is dangerous. I always stop in when I'm over in the area. I'm trying to make my way through all of the flavors on the menu. They even have seasonal specials. Currently (May 2019) it is Key Lime Pie. That is on the agenda to try for this weekend. The location is clean. The set up is a little cramped if there is a lot of people inside. You can stand and watch your donuts be made, which can get in the way of those in line or those waiting at the counter for their order. It moves fairly quick, though. Highly recommend these donuts. They're made on site, right before they put the toppings on. They're usually warm and are absolutely delicious. read more

This is a great addition to WA and is right next to where I work (dangerous)! I've been in a few times and every time has been the same - there's a bit of a line, but the donuts are so worth it. I actually am not a fan of cake donuts (so I thought) but these are seriously the best. I've been to several Duck's locations up and down the east coast but the Charleston location definitely stands out amongst its peers. I am a huge fan of the cinnamon sugar and maple bacon donuts--I think it's safe to say that these two are big staples for Duck's. Despite always ordering these donuts, I never knew about the Sausage Egg and Cheese sandwich. Thankfully for me, that all changed a few weeks ago. Shortly after waking up from a outpatient procedure, my mother-in-law decided to surprise me with Duck's. I saw the Sausage Egg Cheese sandwich a few days prior to the procedure and knew that I definitely had to have it (especially after a 48 hour fast). This may come as a surprise but putting sausage, eggs, and cheese between a maple bacon donut is absolutely delicious. The sandwich is a perfect blend between sweet and savory. I don't recommend eating one every single day (because the human body can only handle so many donuts, especially breakfast sandwich donuts) but it's definitely a nice treat to have once in a while. Duck Donuts was more commercialized than I was expecting it to be- brightly colored with lots of promotions inside. The staff was fine, not particularly noteworthy in any positive or negative way. You walk into a bright and perfect atmosphere for desserts! I personally had the peanut butter paradise donut. I've never been a fan of cakey donuts but OHEMGEE!!! After driving back to the office which is about 15 minutes away, the donuts were still very warm. They truly melt in your mouth. All of the flavors paired well together. The total comes to 8.38. I pull out a fifty dollar bill. And this young lady tells me that this establishment doesn't take fifty dollar bills. No signs in the store about large bills or anything. Well I should've asked for the manager and explain. With banks going bankrupt. I decided to just pull my cash out and and pay for what I wanted in cash. My donuts said they were made and ready for pick up. I got to the store. The donuts were not ready or even made at all. The one girl at the register was very kind and soft spoken but the girl making my donuts seemed very irritated that I was concerned about where my donuts might be and how long it would be until they were ready since they were "ready" supposedly 45 minutes ago... Moral of the story/review , use your best judgment. I cannot deal with this girls attitude. I literally had to walk out...if that says anything. Is there anything better than a donut straight out of the fryer? I have been to plenty of donut shops before, but Duck Donuts is definitely the most unique one I've been to. My past experience with donuts has been picking them out of a display case, not knowing when they were made. I am definitely going to be more picky about my donuts now after having them hot off the presses at Duck Donuts. Normally you are just handed your donut and you're on your merry way, but at Duck Donuts you get to watch your donuts being made from start to finish. You get to watch them drop the donuts into the fryer then plop out onto a tray. The donuts are then decorated to order and you can customize your toppings. They have a wide variety of choices as far as toppings go and you can either customize them or use a combination they've already created. I decided to leave the flavor combos up to the experts and go with the pre-made options. We tried the blueberry with powdered sugar, lemon with raspberry drizzle, maple with bacon, apple with streusel and salted caramel, oreo, and pumpkin with streusel. My favorite was definitely the maple with bacon. Usually, I think bacon is overused in desserts and it's kind of a stretch to put it in there, but it is totally welcome on a donut. It tasted exactly like dipping bacon in syrup, but with the added bonus of it being atop a fluffy donut. I will definitely be back to try their breakfast sandwich between two donuts! read more

Every donut is made to order with either their pre selected choices or you could customize your own donut. The donut is a vanilla cake type base and it costs $1.50 and you can get as many toppings as you want all for $1.50!!!! What a steal of a deal! I've been to several gourmet donut shops on king street and all around Charleston and their donuts are $3.00 and up. The only thing I would change about duck donuts would be to offer more of a variety of the donut itself. Yes, the donuts are delicious. I'm pretty picky about the sugar I ingest and these were calorie worthy. But.... Here is my problem. The set up... I am the type of person that does not like to hold others up in traffic, or in line. I read the board and had my order ready by the time it was my turn. Not so for others and this is mostly Duck Donuts fault. You've got a board on the wall with the basics and then, once you make it to the counter, lying flat on the counter, numerous more seasonal choices are seen. Not an efficient use of your time, or mine. While waiting for my coffee I comment to the manager that it is too bad they didn't have a pumpkin or apple 'fall' choice - she makes no comment. As I am walking out the door there is a banner showing a pumpkin and an apple choice for the season. I really was disappointed. I don't treat myself to sugar laden deliciousness often, and I ended up with something I didn't really want because I thought that was all there was. I know this sounds like a bit of a temper tantrum, but the lines are long, and with a bit more organization of showing people what you have, and how to do it, the lines would be a lot better. My team started talking about it and they said "Ms Jess you have to try it!" I'm like where is this place?!?! West Ashley!
