We've been getting lunches and dinners here since I was a little kid. This was the first place I ever had a crab cake! Nostalgia aside, this place is pretty good. Not the best crab cake..I'd give that 2 stars. But the pulled pork/beef is solid. It is a BBQ place, stick with what they know! I first off got to say the people were extremely friendly and the service was awesome. I must admit though the food is just average, it's not bad but it's not great either. If you're okay with just average run of the mill food you will be good here, I was hoping for some extremely good BBQ and didn't get it. If coming back to the area I'd try something else. Duck Deli has a good smoked tuna salad, but the pulled pork was dry and stringy. It did NOT taste freshly made and was only edible with bbq sauce. The brisket was horrendous. It was also dry with pieces of bone. For the prices, I expect much more. read more

I came here for breakfast with high hopes. I had been here many times before for breakfast, and never been disappointed. However, this time was different. I got the #1 breakfast meal. 2 eggs scrambled, bacon, hash browns and toast. I'm not sure exactly how they measured the 2 eggs, because they were powdered eggs. They were grainy. The hash browns were over cooked. The bread was stale before it was toasted. The bacon tasted like it was microwave bacon. And washed it all down with orange juice, even that was from frozen concentrate. Needless to say, the pancakes my girlfriend got seemed to be home made, however, she stated they seemed a little old. Disappointed. This was always a place we loved coming to for Carolina Pork BBQ. The restaurant seems to have changed hands and is now for sale. The Pork BBQ was very dry, coleslaw bland. We will find our BBQ elsewhere when in OBX from now on. read more

On Friday, October 12, my husband and I stopped by for a late lunch, and we were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very nice and friendly. We opted to sit outside, which was a very cute space with several long picnic tables and some adirondack chairs. Large trees provided a good amount of shade, too. We were greeted pretty quickly, and our waitress returned equally quick with our drink orders. We ordered the club sandwich and the barbecue chicken sandwich. Both came with chips and were decent portions. The club sandwich was good and fresh, and the barbecue chicken was great. We had a large group looking for breakfast on our last day in Duck. Even though it was busy, we only had to wait about 10min before a table opened up. Everyone's food looked good. I had a breakfast sandwich on a very delicious biscuit. This place was exactly what we were looking for. Good, quick breakfast. Service was quick and everyone was nice. Very good prices! Had the rock n'roll tacos as recommended by waitress and they were very inconsistently made. One bite would be super dry and flavorless while another was saucy. The service was friendly but not punctual as they were severely understaffed, so we had to wait quite awhile for our bill and refills. Important tip first: outdoor seating is dog friendly :) My husband and I stopped in for breakfast- we made it to the restaurant at five to 11, and ordered our omelettes just under the wire. When they say they stop serving breakfast at 11, they mean it. The service was great- very friendly and REALLY fast. Our food came out almost immediately, and it was cooked to our preference (choose your own omelette- no opportunity for the cooks to just throw a pre-cooked meal into the microwave). Coffee left a little to be desired, but since they were nice about us ordering breakfast when we did, I don't really feel as though I can be too picky about something like that- besides, a little cream and sugar and brighten up just about any cup of coffee. My family has been coming to the Outer Banks for about 20 years, and I can't recall a time where we didn't swing into the Duck Deli. Most recently, I had the BBQ Sampler (Ribs, Wings, and Pulled Pork) and an additional order of 5 wings. It comes with two sides, I ordered the onion rings and potato salad, but can't really speak to how they were because I was stuffed. The wings are great....fall off the bone, with some hotness to them. It is the kind of hotness that sneaks up on you after you eat the wing. I like the dry rub on the ribs, and the vinegar taste of the pulled pork. Service was great....offered plenty of refills, checked on us 4 or 5 times, joked around with the family, and kept the three kids happy. We ate outside, so flies were a bit of an issue, but the waitress took our plates as we emptied them and sat them away from us to lure them away. Ate here twice this past week. Both the food and service were quite good. The roasted tuna salad was incredible, so I bought two pounds to take home. The dining room and parking lot are both small, so your experience will likely be best if you can avoid the height of the lunch and dinner rushes. Good thing the bbq was good or this place really wouldn't have been worth it. My husband got the 1/2 smoked chicken and loved it. Flavorful, tender and moist. I got the fried grouper salad and it was good, but fairly run of the mill. It was a large salad with a lot of toppings. The dressing was good but extremely sweet. The best part of the salad was the grouper, but it was kind of a small portion. Sides: side salad was decent with lots of veggies, hushpuppies and fries were nothing special. This place gets the 4 stars for a decent barbecue. We also got cherry fruit smoothies. Advertised as "real frozen fruit." I am pretty sure the cherries were maraschino and they blended it with lemonade. A decent flavor (way too sweet for us), but not really what I was expecting from the wording. read more

Let me just start with I'm a local and love supporting small local businesses. With that being said I decided to try duck deli on a very busy Saturday afternoon. They told me 10 to 15 mins and knowing how Saturday duck traffic is I gave it 20 mins. When I got there my food was hot and ready for me to pick up. The prices are expensive but you're also on the beach so I can't really complain about the money. The food was also not worth the price I paid. It was very busy which seemed would be a good indicator...20 minutes later we were told it would be a 20 minute wait to seat or we could eat in satan's asshole.... this little area in the front that was 15? Degrees hotter than outside. We chose carry-out. We ordered meals and desserts. We wait out front for ten minutes and a person comes up with a tray and says this is your dessert order to go. We tell him it still needs to be chilled as we have not even gotten our food. He trots off. We get our food 20 minutes later and I ask for the desserts... "Those should have come to you outside." After vacationing several times in Corolla, we were delighted to "discover" this overlooked gem we've driven by so many times. Based on other reviews, we called in our order on our first night of vacation to keep things easy -- we've resisted getting the outrageously overpriced pizza on the same strip on Route 12 and SO GLAD that we've held out. The food at Duck Deli is delicious and fast! We ordered pulled chicken sandwiches, coleslaw on the side, smoked wings (juicy and enormous!). The children's meal of grilled cheese and fries prevented the last-leg-of-the-sixhourdrive-meltdown (i.e. worth its weight in gold). Order extra ranch and blue cheese dressing if that's your thing. We will definitely be back for next year's vacation. Also, management and staff were very short handed (turnover week) on the night we picked up our order. YET, they still managed to keep doling out orders in a timely fashion to a packed queue of customers. On the negative reviews about the lackluster interior and lacking finesse, my view is that you have to know what this place is and isn't. if you are looking for delicious food that is yummy and no nonsense, this is for you!! This place was a real downer! I got the chicken salad and it was tasteless and just dry. I asked to have them replaced with simple onion rings and they never came. My wife got a blt that looked like it was made on food lion thin sliced bread. The kind that you pick up and hold and the bacon wants to poke through. You know, the kind we've all made in our kitchens to hold us over till dinner. Certainly not the blt you're thinking is worth ten bucks. Someone might either miss spotting this establishment it might think that it is not worth the time. However, make yourself a favor and don't judge the book from its cover! This place has a nice selection of menu items that are tasty and also very well priced. They have also takeout in case you need it. Their pulled pork (platter or sandwich) is great and a must-try. We vacation in the Outer Banks several times a year and every visit, we make multiple trips to Duck Deli. Currently, we've been here for two days and have already eaten two meals at Duck Deli. My absolute favorite is the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of hushpuppies. The pulled chicken is authentic NC style BBQ and the huspuppies are borderline addictive. If you get a BBQ sandwich, don't be put off by getting the "small" option. Even at my hungriest, I find that is PLENTY of sandwich to satisfy my hunger. The small sandwich comes on a hamburger bun and the large comes on a Kaiser roll - which I find to be a little too much. The parking lot is tricky. It's basically a small dirt lot right off of Duck Road and it's usually pretty packed during peak dining hours. If you're staying in a nearby house or condo, it's easy to walk to bike. Hey, that way you can work off all those extra hushpuppies, right? The patio area is cute, but I don't recommend eating out there. Too many flies! The last time we ate on the patio, I felt like I spent most of the meal swatting flies off of my food. All in all, the food is very tasty, the service is lightening fast and the staff is friendly and personable. It is definitely worth checking out. read more

Not bad, but nothing I'd ever crave. We got enough takeout for like 15 people and there were only 7 of us so I tried a lot of stuff. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and they unfortunately forgot my tartar sauce so it was too dry. The fact that it was fried (which is not ok if you're from Maryland!) also contributed to that. Most of the sides were pretty tasty (hush puppies, mozzarella sticks, fries, onion rings). No one was particularly wowed but decent food overall. read more

Let me say the ribs here are very good but I was a little annoyed when after I order I asked about the BBQ sauce and they told me they were out. Very matter of fact no sorry we should have told you earlier. Just "we'll give some packets of premade sauce on the side". Lucky the ribs were smoked just right but the kraft BBQ sauce kind of detracted from the experience... That and the apathetic staff.
