Wow! San Antonio finally got its much needed authentic Peking Duck place. Amazing food! Well, flavored required no additional soy sauce or spices. They shrimp fried rice was perfection. I try new things each visit and my top favorite are the combo chow mein, crab puffs (always fresh and crispy), curry chicken and potatoes dumplings, the spicy and sour dumpings and the passion fruit cucumbers which I have never had anywhere else. I'll keep this one simple. First, I'll preface this with the fact that there are many many Chinese restaurants in town that offer both duck and at least some sort of dumpling. So, while you can likely find both elsewhere, this place basically specializes in both as the main attraction. Sorta like Raising Cane's just does chicken strips. We went to their "soft open" which was PACKED. There was over a 1 hour wait, but we found decent parking right up front and were in no hurry so I signed in and we chatted until we were called up. No biggie. Wait staff was friendly and seemed to be decently knowdgeable of the menu and they were also very attentive. The restaurant itself was clean and no wobbly tables or weird smells. The temperature qlof the restaurant was also tolerable and cool as well. The food. It was fresh and well-prepared. Iced Tea - very weak, almost watery. If you like it strong (like me), stick with the water. Table Condiments - Salt, soy sauce, vinegar and chili oil (more on this later) We ordered the spicy green beans. Highly recommended. They were awesome. Very savory and flavorful and they gave us high hopes for the rest of the meal, but... The duck plate (with broth). the duck was OK. It was cooked well and the skin was crispy. It's presented demonetisation in slices with bits of skin on the plate which were light and crunchy. The broth is mainly bones, some potato bits and a few chunks of tofu and onion. It's pretty bland really. Not worth ordering. we also ordered soup dumplings and some pork and chive dumplings ( there were out of the Chicken Curry and potato). The dumings were "ok", the variety they served was decent too. too. Thus was a recurring theme though. Nothing really stood out ( apart from the green beans). In fact, just about everything was bland and kinda "meh". Even the chili oil was barely spicy or even noticeable in any amount I used. It was like the flavor was "dumbed down" across the board to suit a clientele with a very low tolerance for spicy food...or salty food...or savory food? So we were pretty disappointed. Pros: Clean. Good wait staff. Reasonable priced Green bean plate that rocked Cons: Everything was bland or just "ok". If you live nearby and craving some dumplings or duck and can't hane food that's very spicy or salty, go for it. It wasn't terrible, but if you like strong tea and food with a little spicy kick and craving something savory and worth telling your friends about, or taking a date...meh. I mean, its a chain. It's a step above Panda Express and definitely not fine dining. It's like the Bill Miller BBQ of duck and dumplings and I still go to Bill Miller's, but not for the best BBQ so do with that what you will. I wouldn't go back unless I lived in the area and I definitely wouldn't wait in a line or for an bour again. read more
