12.6.24 This is one of the better fast food spots in the area. It's a step above the Micky Dee's, the BK's & the TB's. Someone turned me onto this chain about 10 years ago and I hadn't previously been to any of them. I was pleasantly surprised from the first time I visited. It's the same as any of the fast food concepts. There's the counter where you place your orders and pick it up just like all the rest. They're basic with their design & decorating their restaurants. The prices are reasonable. Probably a little better than McDees nowadays. I've never had any issues with service at any of their locations. It's basic fast food service. Every now and then you hit a gem of an employee at one of the locations & you feel a little lucky you received better service. But the food still tastes the same regardless. I started trying their chili dogs with mustard or one with sauerkraut & mustard. Their chili dogs are pretty darn good. Hearty chili with a lot of beans. I finally swerved over to try their chicken sandwich. Stellar for fast food. It is a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, honey mustard on a Portuguese hard roll. Those rolls are awesome. They make the sandwich. The only drawback is they take a while to cook and get the sandwich. Whenever you order one of these delicious grilled chicken sandwiches they are cooked to order. They always cook the chicken breast from raw. The wait time is worth it thought. Most of the time I have received a perfectly grill cooked juicy chicken breast. I only got a few bogies of overcooked chicken or too much muscle with a not so great cut of chicken breast. So the good definitely far outweigh the bad amounts of times on my visits. It's never going to be perfect all the time at any place you go out to eat. I recommend you try their grilled chicken sandwich on those hearty Portuguese rolls. You'll be glad you did. read more

I think the memories with my uncles here make this place so damn memorable and a place I won't forget

Great food and service at this Duchess location! I love their burgers and onion rings and egg sandwiches . Stay away from the one in Shelton across from the Stop n shop. That location has bad service and attitude. read more

Waited over 15 minutes for our food (burger and salad meals) and the food was cold! The dining had 2 other people in it and the drive thru wasn't busy either. Burger was cold, fries were cold, and onion rings were cold (salad was too . If I could give this visit a zero, I would! read more

I know the one stars for Duchess are coming from Connecticut folk because you cats are seriously taking your best kept secret for granted. Thin patties? Its bigger than the other fast food kings and made to order. Everything is made fresh. More expensive? Really? Look at the price of a number 1 and compare it to a Big Mac meal. It's the same if not cheaper and you can do curly fries or onion rings. Pro tip...Dip the onion rings in the house dressing. You're welcome. You get 2 for 6 on breakfast sandwiches made on a hard roll with 2 real fried eggs. Why can't McDonalds, Burger king, or Wendys do this? Duchess should really be setting the precedent for fast food. read more

Quick, good and affordable! Always a win win for me! Western omelette platter is my go to dish, but had different things before and always hit the spot! read more

Made my hot dogs perfect. The staff was friendly. I was greeted with a smile. My order was made quickly. I dined in today. The restaurant was clean and the temperature was perfect. Wish there was a Duchess in Hamden or North Haven read more

When they are busy in the mornings they are incapable of getting anything right. When they are not busy they use stale bread for the sandwiches read more

I went to Duchess today and purchased a PhillySteak for $5.38 which came with onions and peppers. It was delicious. I didn't spend much, and I had to wait awhile for them to cook it, but it was so, so good. They do make good food, but you really have to wait. They are slow. The hotdogs are inexpensive too, if you're on a budget. Look for coupons when they come out. Many times they gave 2 for 1 specials. read more

I don't get Duchess. I had it once and swore not to again, but my husband has some sort of nostalgic feeling about it and I finally agreed to try it one more time. Nope. I still don't get it. You can get the same food, but better, at a diner, and get service instead of a fast food experience. They offer burgers and nuggets like a fast food place, but also chicken parm and spaghetti. Dinners at a fast food location? Why? So I tried the chicken parm because that's what my husband claims is good. The sauce is horrible. The chicken is horrible. I'll say it again, I don't get it. Either go to a fast food spot or go to a diner, but don't waste your time with this in between hybrid that has flavorless food. I don't know how the company stays in business. The parking lots of all the locations I've seen are always empty. I won't let my husband's nostalgia get to me again. We won't be back. read more

this is the best fast food place it makes everything fresh the only down fall is it does take a while to cook the food as for it is cooked fresh after you order it every time it is better than Wendy and McDonald's and Burger King and any other fast food restaurant you wanna add to the list it is a bit more pricey but worth the cost read more

This place has been in the valley for a really long time and unfortunately, you can tell. The building really needs a makeover. The inside is a little dirty feeling too. From the old tiles to the 90's-esc claw machine game. I don't think I'd ever want to sit down and eat inside here. Back in high school I got a double cheeseburger from here, it was my favorite. I loved the somewhat cripsy bun and the cheese. But my love for the burger soon stopped when I got food poisoning from it. I didn't eat here again for ten years! Then one day my dad (who is a big duchess fan) decided to get lunch here when we were out. I saw the new pulled pork sandwich. I love pulled pork! So I said, you know what? It's been ten years, they deserve another chance. So I ordered the sandwich. It was pretty good. Tasty, savory BBQ sauce and not too congealed pork. The only downside, they don't give you enough of it! It's more bun than pork and that's such a downer. It's a good thing the buns are good too! read more

I love this particular Duchess. Very nice staff, quick service. Never had a bad experience. My favorite fast food place in CT

The food is great BUT I've now seen the chef smoking outside with his gloves on twice. Not a good look.

This place is the only place that you buy chicken nuggets and they charge you for the sauce you could buy a 21 piece chicken nugget and they charge you for the sauce what kind of crazy thing is that I'm saying if you spending $9 dollars on a chicken nugget platter you should at least get 4 sauces with it. read more

I love Duchess! If I ever go back to school and become a sociologist, I am going to do thesis on Duchess. Maybe it is because I grew up with Duchess and my father loved going, but there is something very special happening here. I can't think of any restaurant anywhere, that you can find people gathered over food having in depth conversations with such verve. I have been in Connecticut a week and have gone every day. This morning went and observed four men in there 70's discussing with gusto CT college basketball and football. Yesterday it was a family reunion. I love this place, and they make a great bacon, egg and cheese or a bacon and hotdog. read more

Duchess offers something for everyone, whether it be salads, wraps, hamburgers, hot dogs, all-day breakfast sandwiches, etc. The food tastes fresh and the soda machine with 108(?) soda favors is certainly enjoyable for both young and old. I enjoy their food when I'm looking for a filling, but somewhat healthier/fresher alternative than a McDonald's. However, I warn you, DO NOT COME TO THE ANSONIA DUCHESS. You will be waiting forever for your food to come! The shortest I've waited for this "fast" food was about 10 minutes and the longest was almost a half hour! What's worse is that the most I have ordered is two meals and they don't even apologize for their slow service. I have given two stars for the food and the soda machine, but AVOID THIS DUCHESS. Go to the one in Shelton instead, across from the Burger King. read more

The people behind the counter should work on there customer service skills. I guess they had to reboot the pos. One man explained what was going on. Ok so I waited. The other two women just plain nasty and rude. The older woman said she could put my order in the drive thru window. I asked for a receipt. She said I couldn't have one. I ended up leaving. read more

Duchess is a weird place. It's not fast food, but it's not exactly the quality of... say... a diner. At best, Duchess can be described as your typical "burger & dog" joint. But more. The menu selection is excellent with a wide range of foods to choose from: burgers, dogs, sandwiches, breakfast, wraps, fried clams, etc. Come between 4pm and 8pm and you can choose from their "dinner" menu (spaghetti & meatballs, meatloaf and such). If your staying in then they bring the food to you (listen for your number!). If you're going out, there's seating so you can wait for you food to be made (everything cooked to order, never ahead of time). The one I'm in now (in Ansonia) recently had a major renovation done and it shows. It's brighter than it used to be, and quite frankly, much cleaner looking. The booths on the side of the dining room all have their own individual televisions so you can watch while you eat. If you don't get a side booth, don't worry. There are two good sized tvs at the front for you to watch (downside is you don't get to control what's on). Also, free Wi-Fi (which I'm using right now). The staff here is always nice and helpful. Don't be afraid to ask them what's good; they'll be happy to tell you. The best thing to come from the remodel though is the new drink system. There is, and I'm not exaggerating, 106 drink choices. Let me repeat that... 106 DRINK CHOICES! 9 flavors of Diet Coke! 8 flavors of Lemonade! And did I mention beer? Yes, beer! (Stella Artois for those wondering) The food quality is nothing to write home about honestly though. They have a pretty good turkey burger and I love the turkey, bacon & cheddar sandwich, but their burgers and hotdogs aren't anything you couldn't pick up at a supermarket. Tonight I had the meatloaf dinner and it was pretty "eh" honestly. It wasn't horrible, but it certainly wasn't worth the $8.99 I paid. To wrap up, Duchess is a good choice if some of you want to do fast food and some of you want to do a diner. read more

This duchess has incredibly slow service. Also they couldn't even get the order right. The chicken nuggets we purchased for our granddaughter were the size of marbles and rock hard. Found this out when we got home. Called the manager who was short rude and just wanted to get off the phone. Offered us a couple sandwiches big deal. Here is the kicker, contacted duchess corporate, each duchess is independently owned so they won't do anything. My new goal is share this review with everyone I can because that duchess needs to close read more

Bacon, egg and American cheese on a poppy seed roll. The hangout spot in high school (some 25 years ago) it is funny how certain spots invoke fond memories. I am still a fan of this sammy today - add a piping hot, greasy hash brown and a small drink for under 5 bucks and it is still a great drive through spot. read more

Duchess Drive-In - a menu for hot dogs - Fast Food Near Me - Ansonia, Connecticut

i would leave zero stars if i could! absolutely disgusting and filthy place this duchess is. halfway through painfully eating my sandwich (only because i was STARVING) i found what appeared to be a roach leg.. i immediately told the staff whose only response was "it must've crawled into the fryer we can't control that." SERIOUSLY??!! i made an immediate consultation with my primary care physician. never again. read more

they suck!! they forgot my onion rings and everything was cold and soggy!!! we won't order from them again ever

Fresh food served fast my a**. Ordered chicken nuggets and fries and a chicken Caesar wrap and I waited at the drive thru window for no joke 20 mins while the cars kept piling in behind me. If I hadn't already paid I would have just drove off. Totally ridiculous. Hasn't happened just this time either...ever single time I go. read more

This used to be a great place to go. Now they pick and choose who has to pull up and wait for their food, others, if they know you will let your food get cold so they can talk to their friends. One order was a lobster roll, wet soggy lobster that was turning its natural color. Another occasion I ordered a long dog works, the sauerkraut was almost black! In my experiences there are so many rude young inconsiderate employees there and "Dave" wont fix it. Bye Bye Duchess.I have been going there before they had a shooting there, a very long time. It sucks, stay away. read more

I don't go here often but when i do its subpart. The food is usually dry and the fries are soggy. I just went there and got a philly cheese steak and asked for just meat and cheese. When i opened up the wrapper it was basically falling apart in my hands from all the moisture in it and it was sticking to the sandwich. It was cold looked like it was left from a precious order just waiting to be used. When i looked at the sandwich itself no joke it was half onions and peppers. I tried taking them off and inturn it caused the soggy bread to fall apart and half the sandwich to disappear. It was a $9 sandwich wasted read more

This is my favorite duchess in the area. They bring the food to your table... it's almost kind of like a fast food restaurant!

The best fast casual/fast food in CT. I love it! I also love the Coke Freestyle machine. That thing is the bomb. But seriously, get a hot dog with the works, get the egg and cheese sandwich on a hard roll, and don't forget the big D burger. Seriously! read more

They've changed the interior but the food remains great. I've been comming here for years and perfer them over McD's or Burgerking. They're a small chain I think only in CT but they definatly have a small buisness touch. Food has always been made to order so its a bit slower than the other chains but they definatly have quality read more

I'm a fan of this duchess it is one of the few left that is clean has friendly staff and well cooked food. Big d chili cheese with bacon bits and fried onions is the way to go with well done fries. The restaurant was renovated recently and now has tvs and comfy seating. One of the burgers ordered was incorrect and was promptly corrected. read more

I have been eating duchess since I was a little kid over twenty years ago, its fresh, the burgers are awesome, don't love the fries but the chicken nuggets and hot dogs are great. I never go to CT without hitting Duchess at least twice. read more

We went to get dinner around 430pm and we ordered a plain burger for our kid and we were given a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, and pickles. When I went to bring it back I was given an attitude and I was told that's not what I ordered. When I showed them that my receipt said hamburger plain she just walked away and sucked her teeth. Im writing this mostly because of the nasty attitude directed at us. We also ordered Buffalo chicken nuggets. This is a simple thing to make and they ruined that too. The Buffalo chicken nuggets were definitely sitting around for awhile. There was NO Buffalo sauce. because it was all absorbed into the chicken from sitting for an hour or more. They shouldn't pour the sauce on until it's ordered. They were gross so we threw them away. The food is not fresh and their employees do not apologize when they are wrong they just blame someone else. I would not recommend this location unless you like cold old food not made the way you ordered it. Also, you only get napkins if you ask for them so if you don't think about it or you don't see the sign on the side window you'll be wiping your hands on your cloths. Penny pitching at its finest. Avoid it read more

Ive been going to Duchess for a long time and the food is GREAT!!!!!!! The only complaint I have is the service can be very slow at times and the drive thru backs up alot and at times its quicker to get food inside than go thru the drive thru (Espacially on sundays). Otherwise they are good! 3 out of 5! read more

This was my favorite place to eat for at least 5 years and always was fresh, but this time something happened, my wife and daughter came home from there very , very sick. My daughter is 3 years old and both her and my wife got food poisoning from a fish sandwich. Very scary my wife said she though she was gonna die. What the f------ is going on over there ? Did this happen to anyone else ? read more

I grew up on Duchess, and it's always been my preference for burgers. Since moving to the valley I've repeatedly been disappointed by Duchess Ansonia. Tonight the drive thru took almost 15 minutes to bring out our 2 burgers and rings. When we got home, my burger did not have the extra pickles I ordered, and they put extra tomato instead of none. My husband wanted to go right back, but I waited long enough for food and just wanted dinner. Besides, it's my fault for going there. It would have been faster to drive to Shelton or Naugatuck instead. read more

All I wanted was a nice juicy cheese burger for lunch. Instead I met disappointment as I unwrapped the smashed bun, holding inside a dry burger patty (flat as cardboard) with cheese. Nothing else! They need to make quality a priority! The only reason for the one star is that they do have the best Reese's peanut butter cookies. read more

Duchess has a problem completing orders. My last order a few weeks ago was incomplete for what I paid for. I had to call them to let them know that they left out a dinner I ordered and paid for. I explained to the manager that this was the second time this happened. Be sure to inspect your order next time you order from the Ansonia Duchess. read more

The menu is good, the food prep hit or miss, staff attitude sucks, owner "finds it hard to believe I wasn't loving it." Take responsibility, apologize & do better. read more
