The service was great and the burger was good. In a greasy home fried burger kind of way. Highly recommend for a good laid back lunch.

Ok. It's a somewhat famous Athens AL food icon. My first time there. Seems to always very busy and there is actually a lot of seating with a room in the back. Lots of take out orders. Had their cheese burger all the way which has coleslaw on it. Onion rings were excellent. The burger is good but it is not a regular beef burger. It's a house mix of beef some pork and rumors of some breadcrumbs. It's different but good in greasy spoon sort of way. It's a bit of a local dive that has had a few celebrities wander in. Put it on your local bucket list and try it. I will be back. read more

Not sure but the meat may be mixed with soy??? There were white particles all through the meat. Didn't look like pure beef imo. Possibly soy or cottonseed??? I grill a lot and the beef I use (which is grass fed), doesn't look like this at all. Anyway, people are super nice and onion rings were good. But the meat... something is wrong. We went to Dubs even with an average three star review. First, the staff is super friendly and the prices are great for the area. However, the hamburgers patties are left of the grill for who knows how long after being cooked and the fries were in a container with a heating lamp. It seemed like neither were cooked to order though the kitchen was set up for short order cooking. One of the reviews mentioned that they were disappointed due to not being able to see them prepare their burger. The grills were not very clean but they had been open for several hours. The area where the fries were kept was a bit more scary as the lamp is against a wall that looked as if it had not seen a good scrubbing in years. Not exactly what you want to see in a restaurant. We did not get sick but definitely would not return again. read more

Dubs is a little dive place for burgers and dogs. You can grab a stool and belly-up to the counter or sit at a table. I like sitting at the counter and watching them grill burgers and fry the french fries and onion rings. You're so close to the action that you might get some grease on you! I got two burgers, onion rings, and fries to go for the wife and I. The burgers were overcooked and I noticed that they pre-cooked and had been sitting on the warm side of the grill. The onion rings were large, but the grease probably needed to be refreshed since it was late in the day. The fries were decent. Overall, Dubs is a local greasy dive. I probably caught them late in the day just before closing, so I will give them another shot. The prices were very good! read more

We love eating here. This is one of the oldest restaurants around. The burgers are just like the old days and they are juicy and delicious. My husband ordered the chocolate pie and I took one bite and ordered one of my own. Seriously, this is the best chocolate pie I have ever had in my life. As soon as you walk in the staff greets you. You have to seat yourself. The wait staff was so friendly but very professional. The place reminds me of a "greasy spoon" but it's its far from that. The furniture is old but it's clean. It could probably use a floor change. I recommend everyone try this tasty treasure we call Dub's. read more

I really hate to go two stars, because the service friendliness and efficiency of getting the food out was fantastic. I thought I had remembered reading, one time that this is one of the places to eat in Alabama before you die. My problem was the hamburger. When I saw them putting them on the flat top, I noticed that the patties were white. I've never seen a hamburger that wasn't red. When I received the hamburger, it was a beautifully crafted burger, meat had a great flat top crust. However, whenI bit into it, it was the strangest texture and flavor that I have ever experienced. of course it says, dubs burgers, not hamburgers, so maybe it's a blend of poultry. I don't know. It was just not my cup of tea. Obviously, they been doing this for 60 years and they had a really good crowd when I was in there so they're doing something right. Today's lunch experience was an oldie but goodie--Dub's! I supported them during COVID and ordered takeout. Today I was pleased to find them...normal! Two changes-they no longer offer a combo (just a price thing) and they now accept plastic (they were cash only for forever). Great service and I had my fix with a great 'slug' burger. My son had his fix with two burgers, Dr. Pepper, two orders of onion rings, a side of fries & a chocolate pie (their specialty). Not a crumb left, and not one bad word said of Dub's. I guess the flavor of Dub's Burgers are an acquired taste. We heard great things from the locals so we made the call to try them for lunch. The signs were good when we walked in. All of the tables were full (save one). Food was cooking up, folks were being served and the energy was good. Our server was prompt and friendly. Our meal was served quickly as ordered. Everything was great until I bit into the Dub's Burger. The flavor and texture are just different. Not sure if it's the meat they purchase or seasonings used but just did not sit right. May be just me but do recall reading a similar review just prior to our visit so I know there is at least one other that thought likewise. To provide a sense of what I define as a good fast food style hamburger I would suggest a Whataburger. This is definitely not a Whataburger. The others in our party ordered their Grilled Cheese with Bacon sandwiches and said they were delicious. The location is a store front in a strip shopping center set up as a "old school" restaurant. Guy Fieri needs to put this place in an episode of Diners, Drive in's and Dives! One of the best burgers I ever had!!! The hand made beef patty was fried up to perfection to where it was actually crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I went there while visiting my parents and their Senior Citizens club in Tennessee and it was my 2nd time in Alabama. I would go back just for this burger. The place seems like it has been around forever. It's only open for lunch and was so packed! The waitress was a good sport as she had to split the bills. The atmosphere was like out of a basement. It was run down and the bathroom was super nasty... but that burger... wow. Oh! And the onion rings! Yum! Best part about this burger? It was only like $3. As a New Yorker? That's unheard of!!! Let's hear it for Dub's! A hometown favorite that's been keepin it real since as far back as I can remember. It was always a family tradition to grab a Dub's burger during the Christmas Parade and it's such a fond memory of mine. A Dub's burger is a slug burger which came about way back when in a time when meat was scarce but appetites were hearty. They mix a bit of beef with spices and a filler such as crackers or breadcrumbs. If you ask me, it's a little but of heaven between two soft buns. You may want more than one because by most modern standards they are small but a burger all the way with a side of rings fills me right up. If you do want another (whether it be for gluttony or actual hunger, I don't judge) feel free to order! They cook em quick and sell em cheap so there's barely any wait and no need to worry about $$$. The absolute best hometown burger. Such a fun experience to see all of the memories on the wall and the employees are so kind!

The shopping center they're in is kind of tired and a bit shabby, and truthfully, so is the restaurant. So what? Ever see Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives"? The bottom line is, the burgers and fries are excellent - we both had the loaded cheeseburger and loved it, and the fries were perfectly done - hot and slightly crispy on the outside. The crew working their were super friendly and attentive, and the prices were great. It didn't bother us one bit that it doesn't look like a 5 Star kind of place; good food, good service, and good prices win every time. Just as I remember them 30 years ago! Taste like home. We are here remembering our grandparents and Dub's was always one of their favorites! It's a taste you can not get anywhere else! As for the negative reviews - boo and hiss on y'all! This is a local place with a very distinct taste. It is the kind of place where a stranger walks in a wants to turn around, and the burgers are served on the paper wrapper, so do not come for the ambience, but by gosh them are some gooooood Burgers. I WILL NOT drive 20 miles for a bad burger, but I often drive the 20 miles for one of these cotton pickers. What else can I say? Free Parking? Yeah they got that too. If I could give a negative number I would. I took my friend there. It was her first visit. They had 2 left over burgers sitting there and would not cook any fresh burgers. They were sitting there when we arrived. It was 30 minutes til they closed. I grew up eating Dub's and this is not it. A soy burger not the pork beef blend I grew up eating. It was awful. I used to come here often a few years ago and I remember it being one of the best burgers around. Unfortunately that's not the case anymore. I'm not sure if they have changed ownership recently, but the burgers seem to have changed. I'll say that the burger was decent, but it wasn't the same great quality that I have received in the past. On top of the burger I ordered a hot dog and it was pretty good. It was cooked well and the bun it was served in was toasted which was a great surprise. As someone who has lived in Athens my entire life, I didn't feel right having never gone to our most famous restaurant. Well I went today and I can honestly say it was the worst burger I've ever had. Dry, and literally tasteless. The staff seemed extremely overwhelmed and didn't always wear gloves when handling the food. The fries were good, but nothing special. The burger patties are literally made from meat scraps, fat trimmings and old bread, but when fried up on that ancient old flat iron, and fully dressed, with a side order of fresh from the freezer fries, you can literally find yourself in hamburger heaven. This is one of those local legend joints that's served generations of folks with little change in what they do or how they do it. In fact, you'll probably think a few of the original workers are still there. They don't take plastic so bring cash and eat it there because the buns won't be the same after they soak up all the grease on your way home. If the pork patty tasted good me may have ate it but it was dripping grease and tasted nasty !! After three hours and 5 mints that nasty grease taste from one bite is still on my tongue! One of us ordered chicken and said it was good ! So when we went to pay the bill they charged us for what we sent back and complained about!!! We ordered hamburgers not PORK IT SAID HAMBURGER ON THE MENU not PORK!!! Maybe all the locals in Athens know its PORK LOL or maybe can't tell the difference !!! But for out of towners ordering HAMBURGERS and tasting a greasy fatty ground pork patty on a bun They will be able to tell !!!
