I was in need of some new black dress shoes, and I knew I'd be able to find what I sought, having bought brown loafers here in the past. We headed straight for the men's formal section and tried on 4 different pairs of suitable shoes. The beige "foot covers" are totally bullsh*t, they don't cover your feet or provide any sanitary barrier at all, so I had to buy a 3-pack of socks in order to try on shoes, as I was wearing flippy-floppies. Finally settling on some shiny size 12 Dockers (priced at $80, not bad), I took my purchase and got in line. Employees were speedy and hopped into action when the check-out queue began to grow, opening multiple registers to deal with customers faster. After a couple trips here, I can safely say that Designer Shoe Warehouse has exactly what you need at an agreeable price. Recommended, yo! read more

About on-par with the Skokie Old Orchard location. Men's bathroom smelled like pee and had urine on the floor. Soap dispenser on the left was out, and on the right was fully busted and removed. They had a gallon jug of "lotion" that, I guess, was supposed to function like soap? After telling the manager, bearded guy with glasses, he just said ok. When I asked for his name he said "I don't want to tell you", I asked why, and got a "because I don't want to". So managers are allowed to abstain from responsibility now and also not wear name tags? The cashier girl was nice and gave us 20% off (we missed the Black Friday sales by a week), as we were shopping for my mother with dementia. They had a good gift card promotion, 25% return rate, so we spent $200 to get $50. They were blasting the AC in December when it's 22 degrees. The music went from quiet, in the background, to blaring loud, as we were leaving (12 minutes before closing); super obnoxious. Shop at this company for their coupons and/or rewards programs but avoid this location, if you can. read more

I'm going to assume because I am quite young looking for my age I'm 42 and I carry a backpack and not a purse that they assumed I was stealing and proceeded to ask me to open my bag with my family with me on our way out by a inebriated, very drunk, security guard who claimed very disgustingly that I hit his genitals Yeah that's right he claimed I hit his genitals. He smelled like a bar I mean this guy was so drunk and when I and my husband pointed it out, he really didn't have anything to say and just let us pass by without checking my bag but I found it to be probably one of the worst experiences in a DSW I've. I recently purchased two pair of shoes from DSW, one pair being Clark's. Four days later I took the shoes back because, they were terribly terribly uncomfortable. I did however wear the shoes for two days at my job. there were no scuffs no damage to the shoes, I wore them a second time after purchasing Dr. Scholl's inserts to see if that would help. The shoes were still very uncomfortable. I spoke with two managers and expressed what my reason was for returning the shoe and that I only wanted to exchange them for something comfortable. Neither manager was helpful. They even felt the inside of the shoe and agreed with me. They told me that it was there policy that they had Ben worn and they couldn't take them back and that I would have to contact the Manufacturer of Clark's. I work for the airline and I'm literally on my feat 10 hr. a day. I spent nearly $200 on work shoes that I can't wear. The manager's didn't even try to accommodate me as a customer. They pushed my issue off onto the manufacture, knowing full well there was nothing they would do. They were more concerned with reselling the shoe that accommodating a customer. In need of some emergency shoes for a wedding, I decided to run in here and find something quick. They have a HUGE selection of women's casual and dress shoes. Everything was well organized and clean. I was able to find some really cute shoes at a great price in record time! You'll never RUN out of shoes at this store! It's the SOLE place for mens' running shoes. They have lots of mens' running shoes. I must have tried on about 40 pairs of mens' running shoes at this location. Trying on that many shoes is the greatest FEET imaginable. And they stock the normal sizes. Many of them were in my standard mens size of 10-1/2. All the shoes were nicely organized. Check-out was a breeze. They even have a bike rack outside the store where you can TIE up your bike. read more

There was a time that I loved coming to this location. It is the closest location to me, so I still shop here out of convenience. The selection is good, but the customer service is lackluster. Sometimes the store is so messy and it's hard to find an employee. Some of the management is very short and mildly rude. Try to avoid coming here on the weekend. You'll be waiting in line for at least 10-15 minutes . Over all, this location is okay - but they could definitely do better! read more

I called the store and had a winter boot reserved for my daughter to wear to school next day as hers old boots got ripped. It was Sunday and the store closes at 6, I got there at 5:45 and the employees closed the store door already. I could see them through glass doors and they just kept waking around laughing and completely ignoring me. Eventually turned around and saw me but still ignored. I was standing out for 15 minutes in severe January cold. Bad employees who closed the doors before time and rude and disrespectful for not coming to door and letting me know the store was closed early for whatever invalid reason they had. read more

I can usually count on DSW for solid gym shoes and mid-quality high heels - and typically shop here at least 3-4 times a year- but the flats and women's sandals selection is really disappointing. Limited sizes today in the few styles that weren't either too matronly, too flimsy or just not a nice looking shoes. Sale section was cluttered and very limited. I can also complain about the long slow lines at checkout but I think that is expected in a large chain store like DSW. I think I will shop in smaller local shoe stores from now on. I do appreciate the occasional coupon in the mail but it is not worth the trip anymore if I leave empty handed. read more

I had a vision: the dress, the makeup, the hair. It was like playing dress-up with myself and I was having more fun than styling any childish doll! The only missing piece was the shoes. Shoes: I took those super seriously. I donned the dress and brought my friend. If you're gonna do something, better do it right - right? Parking right out front in the spacious parking lot was easy peasy. We walked into the expansive store and I felt minuscule. The space of the store stretched larger than any other shoe store in my limited life experience. Low shelves and high ceilings allowed me to easily see all four walls spread wide before me. Perhaps only two other pairs of shoppers were in the entire store. I'm thankful to my friend who already decided for me that my dress would only be complete with patent leather red pumps. She seemed to feel comfortable in the vastness of DSW as she decidedly made her way to the sales racks in the back. She pulled shoe after shoe from boxes and had me walk in them - all the while examining my ease of movement and their ability to match my dress. We were there for a long while, going up and down every orderly isle that had high heeled shoes. The whole time, not a single employee approached us. In fact, I didn't see any employees except at the check out counter. The check out girl didn't inform me about any promotions or deals. Instead she asked for MY contact information to be put on their mailing list. I came away from DSW with a good pair of shoes. Out of a dozen patent leather red pumps we found a pair that was decently comfortable. Besides having fun with my friend, I did not come away with a favorable impression of DSW. It was large, clean, and well organized. I got a good price. I would have liked to have been greeted and asked if I needed help. I did not appreciate being asked to join their mailing list after the absenteeism of employee interaction while actually shopping. read more

Newer location of the popular DSW discount shoe store. I sometimes buy shoes here, but more typically end up leaving frustrated. Like every other DSW location, this is mostly only a store for women. This review is mostly for men. GOOD: Cheapest retail prices for designer shoes. Women can enjoy a large selection to choose from covering most of the sales floor. I sometimes find bargains in the clearance section. MEH: The men's section covers less than one quarter of the sales floor, and is mostly dress and casual shoes. Hey DSW, men don't always wear dress shoes. (I came in today in search of men's winter boots and found none. The women's winter boot selections cover two aisles!) Also, the shoes I do find are almost never in my size. I'm a men's size 9. Is that really so unusual? Most of the shoes I like at DSW start in size 12. My theory is that this chain is catering to the big and tall crowd. SUMMARY: Great for women. Not so much for men. read more

My experience today with Samantha is warranting a review of a chain store, something I really only do if I've had a terrible experience. My time there today warrants the opposite. I went in to return some rain boots that were defective and she was absolutely lovely, even with all of the holiday craziness. I didn't have an original receipt and she recalled the receipt from the system (I'm a rewards member) and handled everything by the book and was lovely the whole time. Going to DSW has become part of routine whenever I have time, on my day off or after work. I've been to this location several times already, yet I never walked out the store with a pair of shoes or something, at least. I've been trying to investigate why this pattern persists. My conclusion is that this location doesn't have any "surprises." In other words, I can find the generic brands that feature in DSW, but I was looking for something more. Perhaps I'm a picky shoe lover since myself as a Chicagoan have the access to the one of the flagship DSW locations. This location, on the other hand, doesn't seem too impressive. The staff is nice and seems approachable as all other DSW locations. I will keep going back here when I can. Whenever you see Michael Kors snow boots on clearance, make sure you get them. I missed my opportunity last time when I visited here during the cold, frigid winter that wept the entire Chicago down. Placed an order at 2pm, it said it would be ready for pick up same day because the order was placed before 4pm. Get there to pick up the order around 8:30pm and the girl behind the counter is clueless about the order. Saying that the order wasn't ready because of confirmation email when the email I had on my phone said that it would be ready for pick up same day. Keep in mind the store closes at 9pm. So from 2pm-8:30pm no one in the store bothered to check the order list for same day pick up. So ridiculous. read more

Awesome place to shop for shoes! This place is huge and well organized. Although there is certainly a lack of basketball shoes in this place, that is my only one complaint. People here are super friendly as I was asked if I needed help twice while I was trying on different shoes. Came away here with a pair of clarks chukkas for 70 bucks after using my birthday deal. I had some free time before work so I decided to walk around DSW. This place has a huge selection of shoes, but lacks in selections in the men's department. I was really dissapointed with the customer service there. I was there for about 15 mins and not one word from any employees there. At least 3 of them walked right by me, looked at me, and continued on walking. As I walk out, I pass up a couple of employees just casually standing around and talking with each other. I went in here just for fun with a friend, and it was quite fun. The store is big and clean, which you don't really find in a shoe store. It's also pretty organzied, making each different type of shoes easy to find thanks to the giant signs. My one complaint is that I saw a total of 1 salesperson, with the expection of the cashiers up front. I would've liked to see more salespeople walking around to give assisstance, but they haven't even been open for a month, so I'm going to cut them some slack. read more

Already had a rough morning so I figured some retail therapy with my mom would help. Everything was fine until we were checking out. We had Alexis. Now I know not everyone loves their job but that doesn't mean you have to show that you don't love it. Alexis had an overall bad attitude and poor customer skills. She started conversing/listening to a random customer that came up to her while checking us out. My mom asked a question right before she was approached and was immediately ignored by Alexis. I said excuse me and she continued to ignore us. When we asked the question again, referring to the coupon, all she said was "No", with a bad attitude. I was never really into DSW. I used to go to the one on Clark St. in Chicago and it never did it for me. This DSW has beautiful bags, accessories, and shoes. I bought a beautiful tan purse and matching heels with fringe. They matched perfectly, and they looked great with my purse. Then I bought some jewelry. Also, a fringe tassel purse accessories which made my purse go even better with my shoes. read more
