My husband and I stopped by this shoe store because I was looking for new sneakers. I found a pair after trying on a few types. I always look for Sneakers that are "wide". They didn't have many that fit that type but I finally found one in the ASICS brand. Most of the Sneakers were $60 or more which is a bit pricey but I really needed a pair so I bought them. I used one of the coupons I had and saved 15% of the original price. This DSW store was huge but there weren't many staff on the floor to ask for help. I can fit children and ladies' shoes, however, some of ladies sizes aren't small enough; some smallest are a size 6. Also, it depends on the brand of the shoes. Therefore, I can't order shoes online, just makes it easier to try it on myself. This shop is in the basement of Atlantic Mall. The staffs that works there are top notch! When you shop here, you should check the prices online. I found a pair of boots that was $100 cheaper on the dsw website and another that was $30 cheaper. I asked an employee if they price matched and he had no idea. Another time I was here, I found a pair of heels I wanted but I couldn't find them in the color that I wanted in the store. I asked an employee if they had that colour and she was clueless and gave me a generic answer: well right now we are looking at the shoes right here. I don't see another color so we don't have it. I then walked a few steps and found the color that I wanted a few feet away. Asking employees for help here is useless. The line for the cashiers is extremely long. I came here late Sunday afternoon to return a Black Friday order. I was on the line for 15 minutes. It wasn't bad because there were only 3 cashiers. The cashier I went to first, informed me that she didn't deal with return. The other cashier I went to informed me any cashier could had handled that for me. Geez. I guess she was aggravated with the crowd. She eventually warmed up to me when I told the reason for the return was the heels were a lot higher than expected. This DSW is located in Atlantic Terminal Mall--as I frequent the mall, I often come here when searching for items. The staff is usually friendly; although this past Friday when I came to pick up boots I ordered for my mother I had an issue. I came to pick up the boots, I was told that the pickup area was where the lockers were, but it seemed the employee was just more interested in her personal conversation. I go where the yellow lockers were and the employee can't find them, she asked if I wanted to search for jen myself, I didn't see them either. She called a manger over, where the manager stated that, in fact, the shoes were at the front counter, where I first went and the employee was busy chatting. Other than this incident, my experiences have been fine. The store doesn't have enough staff; the line to pay is ridiculously long and the aisles are usually in disarray. (Not as bad the 14th Street location. I will continue to patronize this location, but probably will just order online and do pickup because of the long lines and messy aisles. read more

This DSW is such a disaster. It always has been, but lately the conditions are utterly deplorable. It is clearly understaffed and poorly managed in general, but above all, it's just messy and dirty and disorganized. There are random piles of shoes and empty boxes everywhere, along with garbage and used peds. UPDATE: The district manager contacted me and expressed her disappointment in seeing the photos I took of this particular DSW location. She told me that they're making improvements and training their staff. Hopefully there will be a noticeable improvement at some point soon. read more

I've come to this location multiple times, mainly to pick up online orders. The supplies are well stocked and organized. There are several benches available to try on shoes. However, I often experience long wait times when picking up online orders. Either they have difficulty finding my order, or they don't have enough people on the cash register. I'm usually pretty nice with my reviews and it takes a LOT for me to give places 1 star but I had SUCH a bad experience here!! Unfortunately I did not take any photos or get any names of the rude workers because I thought this would be a quick grab and go shopping experience, but this place is so bad, I NEED to warn our yelp community. First of all, upon entering, there was a greeter who literally looked like she rather be anywhere than there. She forcefully tried to give my mom a shopping bag super aggressively. Okay... red flag here... I said "no, we are good. Thanks!", to which she took the bag back and went back to her numb, stoic expression. After shopping around for about 10 minutes, my mom decided to buy a pair of boots. There were only two workers at the register and luckily, we entered the line with only 5 people in front of us. Now tell me.. how is it that there were only 5 people in front of us.. but we waited a good 25 minutes to pay?! That's ridiculous!! By the time we got to the front of the line, I saw about 10-15 people waiting behind us and some customers actually decided to leave instead of wait on the ridiculous line. To make things worse, when I went to the register, the cashier had the rudest attitude. I wanted to ask her if I had a coupon on my account because my birthday was two days ago. I said to her "Hi, i have an email. Is there a coupon?", to which she responded "If there is one in your account. We don't give out coupons for free." ...Are you serious? I had no intention of asking for a free coupon. What a rude woman! I decided to look over her rudeness and to just purchase the boots. Then, she told me that the boots were final sale, so I went to ask her if there's a coupon on the account, to which she said "no." My mom decided to buy the boots anyway and we went our way. Now, this place would've only gotten 2 stars for me at this moment, except that I decided to look through my email that night to see if any coupons were indeed sent to my account and LO AND BEHOLD. IT SAID I HAD A $5 COUPON ON MY ACCOUNT. That cashier blatantly told me that there were NO coupons, when the birthday coupon stated that it is "valid for the entire month"! Absolutely unbelievable!! This place is sort of a 3.5 star that I'm actually gonna round down just cuz. The selection is fairly large. Do not be mistaken by going straight to the back for the discounted items as some on the main floor can actually be cheaper or even better quality. The issue is mostly the service as there is rarely anyone on the floor to assist you in finding anything as it is mainly what you see is what they have in stock since boxes of shoes are stored a la "Warehouse". The isles are wide and long and they could use two or three additional seats for people to try on shoes instead of making a hike from one end to another. Oftentimes you'll find shoes strewn about due to disrepectful customers too lazy to put back the shoes they tried on - humanity is sad sometimes I know. Returns are generally simple and I suppose I should join their rewards thingy since this is probably my go-to place. read more

Oooo me geeee, first off shout out to Raina!! She's literally one of thee best sales associates at this location! Second, thanks DSW for hooking me up! I haven't shopped at DSW in almost a year, my favorite location is Union Square because they sell luxury brands for department store prices, but out of the blue they stopped :( No more Prada, no more Gucci, they introduced KateSpade which was a plus, but they also stopped selling Giuseppe :,( So when I saw I had a $20 off coupon for any purchase over $50 plus a $5 off coupon for my bday I couldn't resist!! I went to my favorite location but the pickings were slip, the store was a bit disheveled and to top it all off I left my coupons at home which they no longer honor if you don't have them in person, so I decided to go to the Brooklyn location at Atlantic. Now I never really visit this location because I'm not fond of the brands or the placement of the store but figured it couldn't hurt. I look through the clearance racks and Tada!! I find an adorable pair of MK flats and faux calf hair flats. Long story short Raina asked her manager about the MK flats since they weren't priced and they gave me 70% off don't believe me just take a look at my receipt. Located in the basement of the mall, there are no windows so it feels kind of dreary and damp. Otherwise, there's rows and rows of shoes. Generally, the floor looks like a mess - I think partly due to the lack of natural light... but you can still manage to find what you're looking for. I came in for a "4 hour window" pickup. The shoe pick up area is out in the open to the left, when you walk in the doors. You don't need to line up at the register... just find an associate and they will help. Once you get the email for pick up, wait 2-3 days and come in... according to the associate, the delivery guys scan the package but don't bring it into the warehouse until the next day or so... so, give yourself some time before battling the subway to get there. read more

I'm a huge fan of the DSW perks and give that online system 5 stars. However, this location needs some real support from the company. Some employees are rude, and they also think customers can't hear when they complain about having to do work, or deal with customers, while said customers are standing right in front of them. On numerous occassions that has made me truly uncomfortable. I'll stick to the online shopping option and ship to my job. Their lines also never move at a fast pace. So if you go, plan to spend half your time there on the line. They usually have tons of employees stocking the floor and only 2 or 3 slow cashiers. read more

But once in a blue moon I will find a true gem laid hidden in the back corner crevice of a Clearance Shelf and I look around me in bewilderment and scan the shoe over and try and make sure this is a dream that a size 8 shoe of such quality is left abandoned and homeless. Went to exchange a gift yesterday, but their returns/exchanges were down, so I put the shoes I wanted on hold overnight. They usually don't do overnight holds but they made an exception since the system was down. Went back today, and they couldn't find the shoes I had put on hold. Thank goodness their returns were back online at least. Between yesterday and today, I spent about an hour in line...at 25 weeks pregnant. I walked in to the store today not really expecting to buy anything. I saw a pair of adidas that caught my eye. I tried a pair on and needed a size that was not available there. So, I started to look online for them because I really adored them. Soon after, I was approached by a very nice gentleman that inquired, 'You don't want those adidas?' I explained that I did really want them but I needed a size that wasn't there. He directed me to the cashier area and placed the order for them for me! I was going to give this place four stars, mainly for its collection and cleanliness. However, the checkout line took way too long. Even with three people, the line of shoppers got pretty long. Long lines with customers not social distancing and only two cashiers open. While I had a mask on in the store, I left hoping I would stay healthy. I love Designer Shoe Warehouse! Good variety of shoes in MY size (which I won't say on Yelp lol) and often times super good deals in the clearance isles (no shame here haha). I'm a shoe lover and when I get my coupons in the mail or email (sometimes both) I'm automatically suckered into buying more shoes I don't need (I'm a woman after all dammit!). I love this location because it's never as chaotic as Union Square and the stock quality is just as good. read more

Bought a pair of Timbs. And could not find them on the rack in a box. Staff was extra helpful and accommodating. Just excellent service. My helper went back 3 times to make sure I could purchase what I was looking for. Then the cashiers got me a discount trusting my word that I had recently purchased another pair of shoes. She called someone and got my discount approved. I'm not used to this kind of service in NYC. read more

Oh, how I love shoes! I love them in the morning, and in the afternoon. I love them in the evening, underneath the moon... I now shop for shoes exclusively at DSW. Designer name brand shoes, reasonable prices, and an almost overwhelming selection! They have a delightful little "member rewards card" program (free to join, free to use!) that keeps me coming back, because for every certain amount of money you spend, you are rewarded with gift certificates! This particular DSW, however, is my favorite of the two I frequent (the other one I go to is in Manhattan, in Union Square). I usually have better luck at this DSW, and somehow I prefer the layout -- it doesn't seem as overwhelming! It's located downstairs in the Atlantic Terminal mall. And if you have bad luck finding shoes, you can always console yourself with some Cold Stone upstairs. ;-) read more

An excerpt from my Atlantic Terminal review: A special notice to the rude staff at DSW this past Saturday who were constantly swarming around my mother, who has a problem finding any shoes that fit and don't hurt her surgically repaired feet, complaining that she had taken too many shoes out and doubting that she would even buy any. Nevermind that your job is maintain the store. Nevermind that most of you are too busy fraternizing with each other that someone would dare inconvenience you with your job. How about you actually help someone who is in need of help. I hope your manager reads this and fires everyone working that day. Sure they might have some good selection of shoes and the prices are great, but I've never seen such bad customer service at a business that wants you to buy and buy in bulk. If I have the time, I'd rather travel into Manhattan to visit any of those locations instead of the this Brooklyn store. read more

The mall is rather hard to maneuver even though there are many signs pointing you to the stores you want. FYI DSW's located on the lower level of the Atlantic Mall...which is the one where the subway/LIRR is. It is actually one floor down from the subway. Clearance shoes: I noticed most of them were only 30% off. There were several rows of particular sizes...which is nice. I am a 9-9.5...I think they had about 4-5 racks. I was given the inside tip: all the clearance shoes are on the racks. Some other DSW scatter their clearance shoes in the rows too..but not this one. Bags: Selection was good...MK, JC, Jessica Simpson. Poor selection of clearance bags. Boo. Nothing to complain about at this location. I live nearby and would rather shop at this DSW location a million times before shopping at the Union Sq. location. The staff is friendly and the store is clean. The selection is huge and they have all the sizes. Someday, some genius will open a shoe store that puts the shoe boxes at eye level. This person will pay his child slaves a penny more a week to put the shoelaces in the shoes before they leave the factory. He will have a discount rack that places shoes where they are supposed to be based on the sizes indicated on the rack. He will do all this because he has bent down at DSW to find a size 11 in a pile of 6s. Because he has seen a man come close to stealing his shoes. The DSW in Atlantic Terminal is my favorite DSW! Last year, I couldn't find the size I wanted, and asked for help; although she couldn't find it for me, she did suggest I order it online, and gave me the form to sign up as a Rewards member. One of the biggest mistakes of my life. And now I have more shoes than I ever wanted. Memorable moments and greatest deals at this location: my mother got boots for $8 and I was able to get Vans for $3 (because clearance, additional discounts, and then coupon!). This is not the biggest DSW; the one at Union Square is certainly larger, with a better clearance section too, but this location is a lot more convenient for me, since it's closer. The staff here care more as well. If you have time, go to all of the stores! Sometimes, shoes will be on clearance at one store, even though it's still full price at another (I saw some Nikes I loved, but decided to hold off on buying them; when I went to the Union Square store, they were in the clearance section! OK, I'd really like to give 3.5 stars, just because, though I love DSW, this location is nowhere near as good as the Union Square location. It's just not as big, and doesn't have as good a selection. It's less crowded, so I'd think I'd be more likely to find things I like on the sale rack, but somehow, that never seems to happen. Still.. DSW has one of the best rewards programs - they're always sending me money so I have to keep going to buy things! Over the years, they've become more of an all-purpose shoe store than a discount/closeout store, even coming out with their own lines. But I'm mostly OK with that, because they've got cute stuff. Still, over time, the prices have distinctly crept up, and these days you're much less likely to actually find any 50%-70% off items on the sale racks. read more

Well, DSW, clearly you had no issue updating and triple charging my credit card and then telling me you would not refund the money but that I was welcome to enjoy myself in the credit card lounge at the nearest airport. Additionally, sent not the shoes that I ordered but instead some slutty high heel that looks like a weird bird. DO NOT EVER GO THERE. EVER. IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Also, do not call DSW on the phone. Now folks, I'm not much of a shopper. I get stuff if I need to. The weird thing about DSW is that somehow, you can't help but get into it. They have a huge selection of shoes, from low end prices to really high end -- we're talking about thousand dollar shoes here! They are all brand names, well known, They also have a clearance area in the back. My only gripe is that they are constantly out of my shoe size -- it's really popular. But you can be guaranteed to pick up some nice shoes or sneakers in any visit. Plus, don't discount their handbags. They have a nice selection of those too. Some of them are a little pricey in comparison to some other places, but you can find gems if you look a little. read more

I love the DSW brand, but this store leaves a lot to be desired. First and foremost, their women's selection is largely geared towards fashion sneakers. Not serious gym shoes, not heels, not flats, but fashion sneakers. Second, the store is insanely crowded on weekends with families and small children running about. Third, like a lot of the other stores in the Atlantic Mall, the store can have a tendency to look as though a tornado has ravaged it. Although this DSW is located relatively close to my home, I'll still gladly take the subway (including a transfer) to the Union Square store before shopping here. read more

Worst experience ever. I came several days ago to get a pair of shoes for a catering shift. The place was in complete disarray. No exaggeration-not a single shoe I was looking for was in the correct spot. Not a single one inside of a box, but rather thrown about in the display shelves. And any time I found a shoe that looked comfortable for work, there was only a left foot. No right foot. No matching sizes. I finally found a pair that worked, and went to the checkout line, which was moving at such a snails pace I had to chuck the shoes and leave. Worst customer service and most unorganized store. I'm what you would call a DSW man. Shoes aren't really something I pay a whole lot of attention to (probably to my own detriment), so why not buy them at a Discount and have an entire Warehouse to choose from? Granted the majority of the shoes here look like the tragically ugly stepsisters of much more attractive footwear, but again, the name of the store is Discount Shoe Warehouse; not a single word of that, and certainly not the combination, should evoke expectations of high fashion or glamour. Not that, again, I mind terribly: I'm here for the prices. What can I say, I'm the youngest of four brothers, I suppose I'm used to saving money at the cost of having only other people's hideous leftovers to wear. Also there's just something undeniably funny about the name "Discount Shoe Warehouse." Importantly, this DSW manages to avoid attracting most of the teeming masses of slow-witted consumer buffalo that clog up/ruin nearly every other store in the Atlantic Center Mall. I suspect this is due to its basement location, sharing the level with only a Guitar Center, meaning that there's nowhere to buy ice cream down here so the average AC Mall patron doesn't bother making the escalator ride. Sure, most of the mouth-breathing mesomorphs who do pay a visit make certain to never put shoes back where they found them, a slight disorganization problem not helped by employees who appear to show up to work primarily to have someplace to eat lunch, but it's really not that bad. Besides, this is one store where complete and utter employee apathy is actually a positive, since if there's one thing I hate, it's an overly pushy shoe salesperson. If you feel the same, rest assured that the only way you'll garner an employee's attention here is if you take some initiative and kidnap their mom. Oh, but don't bother asking if they have any more sizes in the back, because I assure you: They do not. read more

This review is based solely (no pun intended :)) on the great customer service extended by manager Justin and members of his team after online order was not in store after email said ready for pickup 3/7 (I went 3/11. Maybe if I had checked reviews, I would have opted to have delivered to my home or friend...) Wanted shoes for weekend event, and one young lady checked floor for the item-a 9 and a 10 but no 9.5 (I have 4 of this shoe in different colors and fabrications-yes I'm that one...and yes, they are all THAT-comfortable and great looking!) Upon asking for a manager to address my inconvenience, Justin provided an appreciated discount, so much so, that, YES, I ordered ANOTHER PAIR that I already had in the DSW shopping cart on my phone!
