Used D's electric to install recess lighting in 4 rooms, install light fixtures, and install new light switches/ dimmer switches for my home in Dorchester. They came out quickly to give me an estimate and had to book out the service months ahead because they were all booked up-- and now I see why they're booked up! They finished all this work in one day and came with a crew of 3-4 people. They were very efficient, professional and knowledgable. Even the day of service they gave design tips/advice and allowed me to change some things the day of. Overall very impressed with their professionalism and customer service. And my house looks beautiful. Pricing seems competitive but reasonable. Will gladly use this company again, and recommend to anyone looking to re-do their home lighting. read more

Do not recommend. I called at 9am to see if they could come at the end of the day. They said it would be no problem. At this point, I asked what charges would be made--the woman on the phone said that it would be determined based on what damages we had were. We had minimal damage--two wires got crossed and our circuit breaker did its job--but a lot of the switches on the board would not switch back on (why we called, including the main fuse). The electrician came and turned things back on immediately (the reason we couldn't before was there was so much heat after the circuit breaker went off--cooling was needed before we could switch things back on). The electrician did make sure that the wire crossing problem wouldn't happen again. So he billed us for that, also billed for "identifying the problem", and also did for an emergency visit. If I wanted an emergency visit I would have called the night before when the incident happened. Also note that he was at our house for 10 minutes tops. Maybe I am unfamiliar with working with electricians and their dispatchers, but I figured that this would have been made clear to me when I originally asked for what was being billed (since this would have had nothing to do with the damage). read more

We've used only D's since moving to Boston 2002 - I've even recommended them to my friends and neighbors. The prices are reasonable although I've noticed that his prices have gone up in the past 2 years. I usually get Harvey and he's very thorough - he usually comes with an apprentice which can get a little hectic because of the questions. read more

They performed merely adequate work, and the dispatcher either outright lied or was irresponsibly misleading about their hourly rate. First, about the work: they did not clean up as well as my former electrician, and they accidentally created a larger hole than was necessary for a switch, which I must now repair myself. Second, and more important, about the hourly rate: when I scheduled the appointment, the dispatcher told me they charge $130 per hour for two men. When I called to inquire about my bill being much higher than it should be for the one hour of work I received, I was informed it is actually $130 for the first half hour, and then $130 per hour thereafter. So, I am being asked to pay twice what I was led to believe I would pay. I don't understand why a company would intentionally mislead a customer about pricing. If I had known the pricing scheme in advance, I might still have hired them, and I would not feel cheated. But now that I have been misled, I will not use them again, and I will advise others not to use them. read more

This was our first time using D's Electric, after hearing good things from neighbors. They were fantastic. Very thorough in explaining everything, and very polite. You could tell they wanted to make sure everything was done the right way and encouraged us to call if we continued to experience any issues. It's tough sometimes to find skilled trade professionals who handle basic customer service well--things like answering their phone, calling you back, communicating their anticipated time of arrival, etc. Thus, I was seriously impressed and very pleasantly surprised by my experience with D's. The electrician, Nate, who handled my service call, was a terrific communicator and just a very pleasant person. He also fixed my issue (a loose ground wire for the bedroom circuit) very quickly. read more

It took almost a month to schedule an appointment. Very professional electricians. However, they did patchwork without letting me know ahead of time--- even though I was in the next room. They just told me about it afterwards when I had white putty on the area. I also was surprised by the invoice when it came. Extremely expensive for the amount of time spent and work done. They round up to the nearest hour-- so even if the job takes 1.2 hours, they round up to 2 hours and charge for 2 hours. read more

D's is a very professional company. We have used them for a few projects in our house. In one of our units we have electric heat, and they even came out same day this winter to fix it. They stick to their quotes and definitely don't try to squeeze money out of homeowners. They do great quality work and it has been a pleasure doing business with them. We had D's Electric come out a couple weeks ago to update our home's outlets and add additional plugs where there were some missing. Overall, they did a good job. The replacements look great and we're very happy with the work. My main area of dissatisfaction comes from the patchwork they did after drilling multiple holes in the walls and ceilings to add the outlets. When we had painters come in following their work, they had to go back and remove what D's installed because it was basically putty and not the appropriate plaster. This error in material cost us more time and money for our painters to replace and repair. read more

Ive worked with D's on numerous projects from repairing a light in my home to renovating a bath and kitchen for a customer. Never any issues, trustworthy, clean, good work. They patch holes, clean up after themselves and in general are a pleasure to work with. I find their prices to be reasonable considering I dont have to babysit. If they have a question, they ask. I've used D's Electric for the past nine years and I am very pleased with their customer service as well as their electrical work. They respond to requests quickly and thoroughly. They have dome a little bit of everything in my house from moving outlets and installing fixtures, to installing a whole house surge protector, My house is 165 years old, so sometimes wiring can be a challenge. D's makes a special effort to send out the same electrician, so he knows my house, its issues, and my taste. They confirm appointments the night before and they arrive on time or call to let you know they're running late (and sometimes early). They explain everything, and have often made recommendations for adjustments and improvements. Their prices are fair and they leave the place spotless. Excellent!! I got their number from my church bulletin. I called Monday and they were here on Tuesday. Actually, they arrived a half hour earlier than expected. Living as a single female in the city, it would be very easy to take advantage of my naive nature. They charged a fair price. I had a ceiling fan installed with exceptionally old wiring. D's Electric was recommended by my neighbor in the Fenway. My usual guy was on vacation, so I called them. The whole experience from making the appointment (extremely pleasant on the phone) to a confirmation call, to efficient, professional and informative electricians, was a very positive experience. They removed a chandelier and replaced with semi flush ceiling mount, gave me free bulbs, and advice on wattage based on the age of my building (dont always go by product specs!) They were awesome - we needed a thermostat installed and called them and they showed up the same day. They were incredibly responsive on the phone and kept in contact to let me know what time they would arrive and showed up right on time, I think even a bit early. When Nathan and Travis showed up, they were so pleasant and wonderful to work with. I would definitely recommend them!
