I was so excited to find a place that specializes in my hair type, but had such a frustrating last appointment that I have decided I need to switch salons. I arrived to my appointment on time. I didn't get a text until about five minutes later that it was time for me to come in, so I patiently waited. I walked in to find that my hairstylist was doing her own make up in the mirror of the salon. She didn't acknowledge me at all as I walked by. I waited in silence for another five minutes while she finished her make up routine. She trimmed the bottom of my ends for about 10 minutes, tried to sell me a hair product, then told the receptionist I should be charged for a cut, not a shampoo/style/cut. I wound up being charged for everything. I paid over $100 for a shampoo/style/cut even when I called the receptionist back and explained the situation. I am happy to pay full price for a haircut that lasts longer than 10 minutes and when the salon is transparent about pricing, but this interaction made me feel taken advantage of. The person who cut my hair may have been having an off day because she just seemed like she didn't want to be there and I felt like I was intruding on her personal time, while also paying her over $100. Hair is very personal for me and I felt so sad after this appointment. Stay away. read more

Got a curly haircut with Lynnae last month. She was great and very knowledgeable about curly hair. My only complaint was that she tried to sell me on her $40+ curly hair gel product, which is out of my budget. However, the haircut experience was high quality, and she was able to take my all-over-the-place requests and give me a great, cohesive curly bob to finally get rid of my bleached split ends. The haircut included curly haircare education, and I have been able to apply some of her teachings to yield great results over the course of the past month. I was pleasantly surprised by her small friendly dog that sat under her station and hopped on my lap while I was getting a wash, but just a heads-up for other clients that there might be a puppy around! read more

I finally got a haircut from a professional to fix the mess Caryn made with my hair and she showed me that in the back I had this weird/ugly rat tail cut in the back I didn't even see when Caryn butchered my hair :( Always get a 360 degree look in the mirror before leaving, and if your stylist doesn't give you a view of the back of your head after taking off a bunch of length that is a red flag :( I got a refund but had to pay another stylist to fix what Caryn left me with and have paid in inches, not just dollars ------------ I contacted the business email asking for a reduction in the cost and was refunded in full. This was greatly appreciated. Overall, curly and wavy hair (2b-3a) girlies of Latina / South Asian descent wouldn't benefit from this stylist because our hair isn't thick and textured which is what Caryn specializes in, but I appreciated the full refund a lot so 5/5. ------------------ Unfortunately, Caryn didn't have experience with my hair type, as I have loose waves / curls as opposed to the traditionally coiled and textured hair that "curly" salons service, and the consequence is that my hair has weird choppy layers and my "design" looks like I slept without a bonnet. I showed Caryn photos of my waves, brought my hair products, and told her I never put heat on my hair. She proceeded to use her products, refusing to talk about mine "until the end," (I asked a few times) and damaged my hair by using high heat with a defuser for a long while, thought it was left damp in the end (she said as it dried I could scrunch it to improve curl definition if I'd like). She also doesn't use brushes, and instead utilizes her extremely long and sharp nail extensions. This seems extremely unsanitary, considering salons soak the brushes in barbicide (the antibacterial blue fluid) to prevent cross contamination, and I doubt she is soaking her acrylic nails in between clients. She asked how I felt once she was "done" and I told her that my hair didn't have any curl or wave definition, she proceeded to tell me my hair doesn't have the ability to form any curls or waves because it was damaged from color, despite me showing her recent (1 month) and older (6 months) photos showing defined waves and curls over time with this color. When I asked her if she had *any* opinions about the products I brought (a big part of the reason I booked with a "curly expert") she repeatedly said "I recommend you use what you were doing before and what you prefer" when prompted. I've attached photos of my haircut and my wavy hair selfies, you be the judge. This cost me $100 and heat damage. I'll have to wash my hair to get the hairspray out and then re-style my hair the only way I know how, even though the reason I booked a "curly haircut" with a "curl specialist" was to learn how to improve my curls. It's common to ask questions like "do I need moisture or protein products" or "should I stick to heavy creams or light sprays" or "how often should I do a hair mask and what type" etc, it's not common to be told "I have no feedback, do what you did before" by an "expert" who you're paying for their "expertise." In her defense, she stated my hair is more voluminous and in my selfies it's flat, which is true. She also stated due to my hair coloring that the curls are not defined, but my selfie from last night contradicts that. I will be contacting the owner and my credit card company because this haircut is so weird and my "hair design" looks like I did my own hair then slept in it for a few days. I'm incredibly disappointed, like extremely. She took so much length and didn't give me any shape :( My face framing pieces are now much shorter and weird looking. I do not recommend this "curl expert" under any circumstance. read more

Even though it was the first time we met- I could tell Lynnae is truly passionate about curls, and educating her clients on how to style & manage them. Her knowledge and expertise about curls is impressive, and she made me feel so much more confident about my curls after a previous bad cut. I can honestly say my experience at Dryland was life changing, because a stylist took the time to educate me. That meant a lot. Lynnae is a magician (that knows curly hair of all kinds). As soon as walked into her salon a year ago, I knew that she hs going to be my stylist! First of all, her hair is curly and she knows how to rock it! Second, she shared her significant knowledge about my specific type of curl/wave and how to care for it. She recommended the cowash for me (I workout a lot so not to shampoo my hair every day she advised to try that) and it changed my hair, as I'm not taking all its moisture with shampoo after every workout! Just here to note that this place is not trans friendly. I'm a cis female with a trans partner and I overheard a stylist conversation about Jordan Peterson, trans regret and detransition, and a very uninformed comment about trans children and what their care entails. Since I was already in the chair, I stayed put but was uncomfortable and just wanted to leave as soon as possible. I wasn't thrilled with what I ended up with which stinks because I have some really important life events coming up, have been feeling worn out, and really wanted to look my best. read more

Unfortunately I had a very bad experience at dryland. Kiki was my stylist and I asked her to even out my color/highlights and after spending $215 it did NOT happen. She gave me a mediocre cut and not very good color. She convinced me to do balayage instead of highlights which was more expensive than what I booked but didn't provide good results. I booked my first appointment after work at about 4pm. When I arrived to the salon, another woman was already in the chair and the stylist had just begun her blow dry. I waited for about 20 minutes before the stylist said, "this is going to take a while." I was annoyed but I continued to wait. After an hour, the woman was finally done. The stylist turned to me and said, "thanks for waiting. As soon as she walked in, I knew we were going to go over." When I booked my appointment, I provided my cell phone number so if you're running behind (especially an hour behind), I'd like a call or text. She did my hair and then I left. My first experience here was not great but I thought I'd give it another shot since the salon has such great reviews. I made an appointment for 11am. When I got to the salon, another woman was waiting out front. The doors to the salon were closed and the stylist was not there. I asked the other woman who she was there to see and she said the name of the stylist I was booked to see. I asked what time her appointment was, and she said, "10:30." Again, I did not receive a call or text to tell me that my appointment was going to be pushed back. Terrible customer service. read more

Before I started going to Lynnae I was always super nervous to get my haircut. I always came out unhappy and uneven. I have extremely curly hair. The stylists I went to before did not know how to cut curly hair even though they sad they did. I realized that at my last haircut, I walked in relaxed and happy because I knew I would not have to worry. Lynnae knows what she's doing and always does a fabulous job. Let me start off by saying that Caryn "matched" my extensions to my hair. When the extensions arrived, I was excited till I got to the salon and put the extensions next to my head and my hair and the extensions didn't even remotely match. Frantic for an event, I decided to install them anyway which is where it gets dicey. I know extension services are not cheap but when I'm told $175/hr and i'm charged even more than that that's when I get upset. Given I had like 10 weeks of growth I knew it was going to take time so I budgeted like a normal person and boy was I was wrong. So much for transparent prices at DryLand. I wish Caryn was more communicative throughout the process maybe giving more care information (which she gave little to no advice) and her price sheet for her extension services when the extensions are being put in. I can understand me miscalculating by like 100 to 150 bucks but boy was I wrong... Caryn needs a price sheet for her extensions that's all I'm saying. It's highway robbery and I won't be back anytime soon read more

There were 5 of us that booked blowout appointments on October 22nd starting at 11:30-and the last appointment starting at 12:45. We all arrived early but unfortunately they were running behind... very very behind and my friend who was scheduled last nearly didn't get her hair done at all. BIG THANK YOU to the hairstylist in the back (closest to the air conditioning) for saving the day! There seemed to be a miscommunication between the receptionist and staff of who was doing my friends appointment which was supposed to start at 12:45 but didn't actually start until much later and we didn't get to leave until just before 2:00pm which got us to the wedding only 3 minutes before the wedding started. (Not exactly the relaxing day we had hoped for). The most uncomfortable and unprofessional part of our day was with the receptionist..... I was personally a receptionist in my younger years and I understand how hectic the job can be but to be clear the experience with this receptionist left a bad taste in my mouth and my friends and we won't be returning. It was my first blowout ever. The woman who styled my hair in the back at the station on the right (Sorry horrible with names) She styled my hair and added curls. I wasn't told I was being charged an additional fee for curls. I was charged $40 and then gave a $10 tip. My hair was fine nothing crazy but I could have just as easily done my own hair. No worries, though. I was checked out by someone who said they "were not the regular receptionist." As I was waiting for my friends to get their hair done I was approached by the regular receptionist and told to "write my information down" and she handed me a post it and walked away. She did the same with my friends. At 1:30pm the receptionist approached me and said "you owe more money." Completely being thrown off and given no other explanation. I was told that the person who checked me out didn't charge me enough and "you owe more you got curls." She was extremely rude during all of this saying I owed $10 more. " She did the same approach to my other friend and couldn't approach my last friend to pay more as she had already left. Note to stylist and management if you are going to charge $10 for curls let your clients know beforehand and fire your receptionist she has zero customer service skills and doesn't know how to speak to clients. The blowout was highest I was quoted in Baltimore and the outcome not memorable. I live locally and would never consider this salon in the future. read more
