I got a blow out here the other day and I think I may have to become a regular. It was so lovely. My amazing hair dresser took me through the whole process, sharing the options of hairstyles I could get (they're all named after cocktails it's so cute) and helped me decide. The whole process was so relaxing and I just felt that I was in the best hands. Not to mention they were playing Clueless on the TV so I was thoroughly entertained. I have been going here for about 10 years and have only had good experiences . Unfortunate the new business model is not the best for customers . My last visit and again today I've incurred the same issue . I was charged extra for going over the 45 alloted minutes yet both times I was still sitting in the waiting area at my appt time and sitting in the styling chair while the stylist cleaned the wash bowl etc .. which goes into the 45 min . DryBar for me is a quick service at a reasonable price .. for $80 which I paid today , I can easily go to a high priced salon and pay a flat fee and know exactly what I'm getting . Stylist was great and service all around was good but this new model has me re-thinking after being a loyal customer for so many years read more

I was in town for a work conference and wanted my hair to look nice for an award show I was attending, Thankfully there was a Drybar nearby and there was decent amount of availability for when I wanted to go. I had a short wait when I got there but it wasn't too bad. My stylist was great and asked what I wanted/what I was looking for. Since the event was that evening, she left my curls tight so they would slowly fall/fan out during the day. Let me start by saying my stylist and staff were very nice, and I do not wish them any ill will. That being said, I do not recommend this location if you're someone with curlier hair (specifically Type 3 and Type 4 curls). I'm a Barfly member, and I typically go to the Midland Hotel location. Every stylist I have gone to at that location seemed to have knowledge about curlier hair (ex. detangling while at the bowl, blow drying technique, etc.) While my stylist seemed to have general knowledge about hair, bless her heart she did not seem to know much about curls. A service that I typically get within the standard blow-dry allotted time took her an additional 25 minutes. I also left with loose, limp looking curls from the blow dry rather than the usual voluminous curls I have. Again, I've been a Drybar girl for a while now and I don't think this stylist in particular purposefully did the style wrong. After this service though, I just don't have confidence that this location can adequately cater to all hair types the way that other locations can. TLDR: if you have naturally curly hair, I'd recommend another Drybar location. read more

Full disclosure this was a free blowout via yelp elite event. Today I stopped at the river north location. The music was blaring, a little extra loud for after work in my opinion. A gentleman checked me in, asked if I wanted any upgrades which I had one. Then asked if I wanted more add ons. I waited for my stylist to come over and was greeted by Lex. She's a doll. She did a great shampoo and great blowout. We had great conversation, I would definitely get a blowout from her again (she deserves 5 stars). I went to check out. I was just told my total by the woman upfront. She was not friendly or even asked how my service was. The shampoo area also had a sewer gas smell. I used to be in the beauty industry, I hold customer service in any salon to a high standard. I feel like something is lacking in that department here (other then my stylist) if they could tweak the service part a bit more, this place would be even better. read more

BEWARE OF PRICE GAUGING AND THEY WILL NICKEL AND DIME YOU FOR EVERYTHING. I have been a Drybar member for 2 years, and this location suddenly decided to not honor my multiple blowout credits. Furthermore, they will try to charge you if your blowout goes "over time" which of course is out of your control, and in fact in the stylist's control. They claim my membership only works at one location, and yet I have used it at 4 different locations over the course of my 2 year membership. What should have been a fun relaxing experience turned into a $200 mistake. Instead of letting my know up front about these outrageous rules, they wait until you are done and forced to pay. Had I known up front that they wouldn't accept my credits, I would not have continued. (Because what is the point of membership if you can't use your credits???) read more

I had an appointment on 12/30. When I got there, I waited 20-25 min for a stylist. I finally sat down and asked for curls. After the appointment when I got home (10 minutes later), the curls had fallen. I called the salon twice and left messages both times asking for it to get fixed for free. When I didn't hear back, I booked another appointment for the following morning anticipating them to fix it for free. The next morning (12/31). Before my appointment I called again so they knew, still no answer. I then went to the salon and the same receptionist was there. She talked to the manager and said she would not comp the fix because it was a holiday and they don't get paid for comps. I was shocked. However, I needed my hair done so I took the appointment. The new stylist was so much better! After the appointment, I asked to speak to the manager directly. She said she couldn't comp it because I didn't come back the previous day. I showed her my call history -- I had called twice and no one answered. She then said they called me back but there is no clear record of it. She lied. She also said that the weather was to blame the day before because it was raining. It was NOT raining -- she lied again. She said she would give me 20% off so I took it, but I shared that I would reach out to corporate to fix the issue. She said "there is no corporate". I've been coming to this salon for years and have never experienced this horrible service. I basically paid twice for one service. read more

It was easy to book my appointment online for a blowout at Drybar River North. I arrived at the salon on time despite the fact that the sidewalk in front of this location was being torn to smithereens. When I arrived, there was quite a buzz of activity, for a weekday afternoon, around mid-day. I felt that the hair wash could have been more focused on the scalp, perhaps that was a sign I needed to pay for the scalp massage upgrade. Kay was efficient and friendly. I found the mai-tai (beachy waves) style I selected a fun change from my usual side-parted, blow dried straight and ironed style. I usually don't make scheduled blowouts a regular part of my get-ready routine but will file this spot away when the need arises in the future. read more

Excellent experience. I've been here twice now with different stylists. Usually when I travel for work Drybar is convenient but poor quality blowouts. This location was fantastic. Week one just a standard blowout which lasted 5 days. Week two was a black tie gala style and held up perfectly all night. Excellent friendly staff too. I've been to the salon three times to see if my experience can improve - unfortunately, this will be my last. Appointment was scheduled for 9:30 and I showed up earlier because from past experience, I knew they might be behind schedule on a Saturday morning. I was right. The first thing the front desk attendant told me was that they were running 10 minutes late. At 9:55 I finally was able to go in the back to get my hair washed. 25 minutes after my scheduled appointment. I did not leave the salon until 11 and therefore was set behind for my bridal shower. My hair stylist was nice and professional, but my hair did not stay AT ALL. I have asked for a cosmo and have had my hair stay many times before, but it fell completely flat within an hour. I told the lady checking me out that my appointment ran late and she did not apologize or show any signs that she cared. I have attached pictures showing my hair within four hours of leaving the salon. DO NOT come to this place if you have an event to go to. My hair was AWFUL and my bridal shower pictures all look off because of it. This was easily the worst $40 I have ever spent. Do better Drybar. read more

I went to Drybar with pretty low expectations, as my last experience at a different location was.. interesting to say the least. I don't live in this area, but there are 10+ other places that I would recommend getting a blowout from before Drybar. I told my stylist to do whatever they needed to do to maintain a curl in my hair, because it normally doesn't curl well. They kept asking me 'do you want to do XYZ' and I was like... uh sure? whatever you have to do to get me volume and hold a little bit of a curl. I can tell you that I left Drybar with neither volume or curl. I can't blame the stylist too much, as they can only go as far as their training takes them. But I did leave with water all down the back of my shirt so I guess that was a pretty fantastic trade off! So Drybar- let's get some advanced training on having your stylists recommend styles that may or may not work once they get their hands on your hair. read more

I love Drybar and have the monthly membership. I went on a Sunday for 6:15 appointment. My girl was saying how tired she was and that I was her last client. She couldn't wait to leave! It took her 15 minutes she made me hair nothing like I wanted. I just wanted a simple blowout with volume. She curled and made it look awful/ I need to redo it to start my week. The reviews on this location really surprise me..I have never had a bad experience here since moving from New York. My last two appointments here have been seamless and the only thing I would complain about if I had to were other guests being rude and unruly with the staff on a busy Saturday morning which may be some of the people leaving a bad review for waiting 10 mins... Welcome back to reality, not everything is at a push of a button. Anyway, Kay did my hair for my gender reveal and I looked absolutely gorgeous, I have curly hair and trust me I know frizz but I also know when a blowout is appropriate for the weather so everyone should mind their results based on HUMIDITY which Chicago summers carry. I have had many blowouts from Drybar all over the country and I have to say, I was very impressed with Michaline. I have thick hair and she knew exactly what to do to make sure I left with bouncy, flowy hair. While Michaline typically works at the Lincoln Park location, she decided to pick up shifts at the River North location and I am glad she did as I left very satisfied. I have heard that Robert and Tiffany work at this location and they are supposedly just as good if not better. I will definitely be back! read more

This was my first time doing a blowout since I went natural two years ago and I was so nervous. My stylist, Carr was amazing from start to finish. She was so knowledgeable and friendly l and made me feel like I was in good hands. I expected my hair to be slightly puffy with no chemicals for the first time but did not think it would come out as beautifully as it did. It was the best blowout I've ever gotten! I'm a Chicagoan, but I have used the consistently superb New York City Drybar services for several years. Knowing the high quality and friendliness I had experienced from stylists in Drybar's bustling, super-busy NYC locations, l had high expectations of the service here. Despite how few people were in the salon this midweek afternoon, it was a disappointment. Everyone working there seemed bored and uninterested in the customers. My stylist, Amber, was curt and roughly used her tools like Nazi torture weapons. When I mentioned to her that the blow dryer was very hot on my scalp, she said the setting was low and the styling would go better if I didn't flinch so much. She was directing the very hot air onto my scalp so much that I had to keep moving away from the torture. I said my skin would feel better if it wasn't burning. Then when she used the flat iron for curling my hair, she was pulling so hard that I had to hold my hand under my hair just to keep my neck from whiplashing. She claimed that was the easiest setting she ever used. I felt my hairs breaking and tearing as she worked. Thank goodness I cancelled the braid I had planned. I have never been so roughly treated at any salon by any stylist anywhere. Also, she kept pulling out different styling sprays and practically smoked me out of the room with them, leaving me coughing from spray directed all around my face and head. I will never go back there. I'm going to stick with Goldplaited - either location. Maybe it's a poor training issue at Drybar, but everyone at Goldplaited is kind and concerned with what the customer wants. read more

I am barfly member and I had to change locations due to experience. I decided to come to the river north location and I am so happy I did. From the minute I walked in; I was greeted by the manager who was super sweet. She offered me coffee or water and she brought it out right away. The stylist was amazing! She listened to what I was looking for and started doing my hair. She was very knowledgeable of all the products and was very quick at doing my hair. I called and spoke to the "manager" who swore there was no notation about the conversation I had with the employee on 8/23 and said there was nothing they can do. I had the best experience at Drybar in River North last night! My friend and I went to get our hair done for a night out and we're a little late due to all the traffic but the staff was so nice and understanding, specifically Anita at the front desk! My stylist, Victoria was great and super efficient. My friends stylist, Em, was fantastic as well and got us in and out of there super quick. Overall a 10/10 experience and I highly recommend.
