By far the best coffee shop within an hour of Stony Brook! I moved here from Nashville and was used to multiple high quality coffee spots in town. Before Druthers, I just had to deal with not having a nice spot without having to drive a long way towards the city. This is NOT a place for sugary drinks with a splash of mediocre espresso. The folks here use high quality beans and really care about bringing out the flavors of the coffee. Highlights for me are the simple drinks like a flat white and cold brew. Seasonal lattes are lovely and not overly sweetened. The tonic drinks are delightful as well! Want tea? They've got some beautiful tea-based drink as well. Hungry? The baked goods are insanely delicious too. Chocolate chip cookie and olive oil muffin and irresistible. Their new food menu features one of the best bagel sandwiches I've ever had too. Once Covid is over, I can't wait to sit in and do some work while I sip and enjoy the abundance of natural light and just-right modern atmosphere. The best part of all? Incredible. That's all you need to know. I've been here quite a few times since they opened and have been SO impressed every single time. I'm a tea drinker (wish I could still drink coffee because their offerings sound incredible) and I've had all of the herbal options on the menu. I find it typically hard as a tea drinker to find coffee shops or cafes with tasty options, and unique offerings (aka not the store bought bags). Every single herbal tea they have is insane! And every time I'm given my drink, they inform me of the exact seep time for best flavor You have to appreciate servers who know their product because it doesn't come often. I've also had their Blue Cocoa and White Chocolate Pumpkin Chai (I believe it was). Both were the perfect amount of sweetness without being overbearing. Absolute heaven! My boyfriend is a regular here. I joke that he should be partial owner at this point. He's an espresso snob and has deemed Druthers the best he's had on LI. He's also had quite a few of their breakfast options including the famous olive oil muffin, egg sandwich, and sweet potato toast. He raved about all of them. This coffee shop is amazing! They have a small food menu, but the egg sandwich got was delicious. We also got a cookie, which had the perfect crisp outside and soft inside. Great to have such a nice coffee shop in the area. Coffee is great, love the Macadamia milk option especially for lattes. Hot chocolate was amazing for a dark chocolate lover like myself. Be aware their hot chocolate has cinnamon if you are not into that. Their breakfast options were very good but a little high priced. Highlight was their olive oil muffin and scone - so so so good. Many of us have been waiting patiently for Druthers Coffee to open their doors and holy moly, was it worth the wait! Michael, Zach and their staff are the perfect balance of friendly and professional. The care and thought that has gone into each and every one of the recipes that they use is very apparent. High quality ingredients make for a huge WOW factor across the board - for example, their olive oil muffin? TO DIE FOR. Thank god I live so far away or I'd eat handfuls of those things. Not to be forgotten - the chocolate chip cookie is life-changing, their brownie was moist, dense and perfectly chocolate-y sweet, and I'm not even a scone lover and I still have to make mention of their chocolate chunk scone. All baked in house, all incredible. Top it off with a solid cup of Counter Culture Coffee - I had a drip (medium roasted with a solid body, light pleasant smokiness) and a cortado (perfect, not surprised). I also tried their blue mocha (probably misremembering the name of the drink - but get it or regret it). The space is bright, airy and sparklingly clean, with multiple entrances, lots of room to spread out, and tons of parking. They're navigating food service during these crazy Covid times with grace and patience and a steadfast, visible commitment to safety and sanitation. I had to wait 20 min for a latte, where I was charged extra for the flavour (caramel) and milk (half and half). That means with a tip, I ended up paying $8.33 for a 16 oz coffee that should have been closer to $6. I feel ripped off to be honest. Coffee was good though. read more

The service is friendly and super helpful. The breakfast sandwich and the coffee is phenomenal. My two year old even loved the everything bagel that came with the breakfast sandwich. A relaxing and chill cafe with a lovely ambiance. You can't go wrong coming here with friends or with a book. Definitely will be back for more. read more

Coffee was just "ok" to me. Definitely a cute little spot but not a cozy coffee shop vibe. It was actually pretty loud with the music. Definitely a good local spot for students to put AirPods in and bang out a paper but not a great spot to go and read a book. I got a 16oz iced burnt caramel latte with macadamia milk. It was around $7... and all I got was a cup of slightly caramel flavored milk. I came with 6 other friends, we all got the same thing (milk varied) and ALL of our lattes had no coffee flavor at all. It was basically like drinking a $7 cup of milk. Very disappointed because we all were excited to try it out. 2 stars for the milk options, but espresso is not the way to go here. The iced coffee or cold brew might be better, but I'm not willing to potentially waste another $7 to find out. read more

High-end coffee shop, worth every penny. Some prefer Dunkin', or Starbucks, and that's fine. At the very please, please *try* Druthers. AFAIK, no one is doing coffee at this level, in the area. *Maybe* Soul Brew in St. James. I was about to say that Soul Brew has a better food game than Druthers, but Druthers has a better egg sandwich, so ... and besides, Druthers has better coffee. The only coffee I know of who competes with Druthers is Southdown, and Southdown is not closeby. I mean, if you're in Huntington or Northport (or Oyster Bay), then yes, do Southdown. But in Stony Brook and its surroundings, Druthers is it. If you've read this far, I'll say this (and I'm a big Mark Boccard fan) - Druthers has better iced coffee than Southdown GASP I SAID IT Also, Druthers has affogato, which TBH is not hard to do, but so bangin delicious. I can tell you this - when I was a USB student in the late 90's (what was maybe, six logos ago?) the best coffee on campus was Green Mountain in the bookstore. Yep. To be fair, there used to be a roaster a few doors down from Green Cactus (still there, hell yeah!) but I'm not entirely sure they knew what they were doing. This place emerges out of the countryside like a mirage. The service was a tad slow the day we were in, but everyone was kind and accommodating about it. When our drinks came, we drank them and basically got right back in line to order more drinks for the drive back into the city. Highly recommended. read more

My drink was awesome tasting and very reasonably priced, the owners I met at the register and at the coffee bar are so nice, the shop is clean, there is plenty of parking, and they have a "points" reward system. We just picked up our son and he needed a bite to eat and was curious to try this place. He ordered an egg sandwich, I ordered a cold brew smoothie and an olive oil muffin, my wife a coffee and cinnamon bun pastry. The tab was about $38. The sandwich and pastries were tiny. Not small, tiny. We asked if they could warm the pastries. No, they said. They don't heat pastries. They would have to use the convection oven and that would take 20 minutes. We actually waited about that long for the smoothie and the sandwich any way. The smoothie was warm, not cold, barely cool. The coffee was cold, not warm, room temperature. Seems like a lot of folks have a good experience here, and my son said his sandwich was tasty. Cute place but they need to pick up their game. Our brief encounter was not acceptable. read more

I was super excited when I saw an independent coffee house opening in the area. I hate supporting the evil mermaid company, so I like to give the independent shops a chance. I've been here twice now, and unfortunately, I have yet to be impressed. The first time I tried their hot chai tea fog, which is basically a tea latte. I had such high hopes for this, but honestly the chai was awful. I took a few sips and ended up throwing it out. It isn't hard to make good chai if you use a good tea blend, so I was baffled by how bad this was. I was disappointed with my first experience, so I hadn't gone back, but today I was passing by and decided to give them another try. I opted for a cold brew, something I enjoy at other coffee shops and also make at home frequently with great success. Their cold brew was SO sour and bitter and almost burnt tasting, everything cold brew should not be. Even with milk and sweetener it was still unappealingly sour, and I ended up tossing most of it again. One thing I did enjoy was the baked goods. On my first visit I opted for their olive oil muffin, which was nice and simple with a slight citrus taste. It was pretty moist and tasty. Today I opted for a chocolate chunk scone which was also quite good. The scone was not overly dry and was a nice size. It was loaded with nice sized chunks of a bittersweet chocolate that kept it from being sickly sweet. It was probably a little too sweet for breakfast but would make a nice snack. I have not tried the espresso, so maybe that is where they shine, but I think I will reserve my visits for when I am looking for a baked good, and not a beverage. read more

Big fan of Druthers since they opened, visit almost every weekend around 9:15. Unfortunately the last few visits their delicious baked goods are not out yet and if they are it's only a couple of items. We love the drinks however our visits are not complete without a cinnamon roll! read more

Wish there were some sugar free syrup latte options for my diabetic dad, but the syrups are not too sweet and there is always the regular latte or cappuccino options.
