I wish I could divide the stars because the performance and the food are on two ends of the bar. I took the mom and grams to Drom for a Latin Jazz band in celebration of mother's day. The music was amazing! they both enjoyed the show. The hostess was very nice! Now the food. We ordered the wings (thai), fish and chips, cheeseburger, and eggplant balls. We ended with the warm date cake. -The cake was the favorite. The warmth and toffee complemented each other perfectly. -The eggplant was interesting. The balls were great but needed a sauce that could do them justice. The one it came with was very underwhelming. -The burger was ok, my nephew at it but the cheese was crazy drippy. It dripped enough to upset him because 8 year olds need their cheese to have a backbone. - Fish and chips were crazy bland. -The wings. Man the wings. Those were a mistake. I ordered thai because when I see thai I think sweet chili, sesame, coconut... I do not think hot sauce. These were so hot, they were inedible. I took a bite of one and couldn't eat it. They tried a piece from the same wing, and none of us could tolerate it. So we left 11 of the 12 in the basket. Our waitress didn't come by to check if everything was ok until we had finished the other dishes, and the busboys had cleared tee table. They left the 11 wings behind. When she stopped by we had been in need of refills for about 20 minutes. When she asked how everything was I mentioned that we couldn't eat the wings because they were too spicy, she said they are thai. I looked at her as if a black hole was forming and swallowing up her answer. I asked her for the dessert menu and pointed out the need for refills. Dessert came, it was amazing. We got our bill, which included an 18% gratuity and the wings. Personally I'm not a fan of gratuity EVER being included for small groups. Paid and we were on our way. In conclusion! Came here Sunday for a show, which didn't disappoint. The fare was typical dinner and a show style, so if you're a foodie, your palate will not be pleased. Started out with a crap arugula salad, which was overly dressed, and the follow up was a plate of grilled chicken, one slice (one!!) of green pepper, and a generous serving of white rice. That's it. Now I know Turkish food well, and this wasn't even spiced. At all. The table next to us never got served their dinner on time, and we had to wave down the server to get their dinner for them. The drinks were good though, at $12 a pop. I popped once, therefore. The entertainment made up for it though, with a bellydancing show that raised the level of the evening. DROM has hosted a couple of concerts I've been to recently. The atmosphere and food are both fine, but the wait staff last night were unreasonably rude to a friend of mine. There's a "two items per person at tables" policy in effect, but last night was pretty empty, and I was at a large table with only four of us at one end, three of whom were buying food and drink. Our 4th friend, although she'd bought a drink at the bar, was unceremoniously ejected from our table and sent back to sit at the bar like an errant school child. The waitress wasn't even going to let her go back to get her jacket from the table! Stupid. I left no tip, but even paying was hard, because nobody. had. any. change. In a bar? Really? No change, guys? They also had the temerity to add the tip in to the total bill amount, which is a desperate, stingy move that does nothing to increase my estimation of them. To top it off, the sound-guy working that night wasn't very good - the sound was muddy and badly balanced. DROM: your two-item minimum, rude wait-staff, and generally bad service has done nothing but convince me and my friends that we should try and avoid you in the future. You kind of suck. ---Update:---- The owner kindly invited me to call him and talk about the situation. He was very polite, so I'm hopeful that he'll encourage the people who work at Drom to be more flexible with respect to table-seating in the future. This bodes well, though I'll have to experience it myself to know if anything's changed. I went to Drom to see a show recently. When I got there the girl working the door said that seats at the bar were 15 dollars and seats at a table would be 20. I wanted a better view of the show so I opted for a table. I walked further in to the place and told the hostess that I had paid for 20 dollars for a table. She informed me that if I was to sit at the table I would have to order two items. This wasn't explained to me at the door and if it had been I probably would have opted for a seat at the bar. Not wanting to make a scene or go back to the door girl and complain I decided to sit at the table and order a drink and a plate of wings. The waiter came over and took my order. While the show was going on everything was great, decent drink not stupid expensive (at least not for a club) door and bar staff were very nice. The space is really cute and the sound is great Then the show ended. I understand you need to set up tables in the middle of the floor but I honestly felt like I was being chased by the people setting up, no matter where I moved or stood in the room it was in a place they need to put a chair. Came here for a friend's birthday on a Friday night when Le Youth was spinning. It was a good show and it wasn't too crowded. A few creepers scattered on the dance floor - especially the one guy drenched in sweat while dancing by the speakers. The staff allowed people to dance on stage and some crazy girls (including my friends) were hitting on the DJ and messing with his levels- pretty hilarious. poor guy. It was odd to see two amateur photographers who claimed to be shooting for a music video? Not sure if true but they were both snapping random photos with very little focus. I'd like to see how the photos came out because I would be surprised if any are even in frame. I would rate DROM with three stars if it weren't for the awful service at the bar. Each person in my group, including myself, returned to the dance floor after a bad experience with the bartender. I dealt with a male server and he was so rude that I did not want to return. Took my Mother on a Groupon deal and it was not as advertised. The main thing being that they advertised a 7-9pm James Brown tribute and the show was over at 8pm. My Mother felt bamboozled, also the service was not sharp. I totally loved this place. Turkish or not the food was ecclectic and it was a really great ambiance and the food was perfect. I am not a fan of lots of things, but the way they prepared okra, eggplant and even garlic made me really really enjoy them! The music was lively and awesome. The ambiance itself was very chic and sexy, with high ceilings and a very cool lounge feel. The crowd I thought was a nice mix, and it wasn't so loud that I couldn't talk to my friend. In the end, the food was great, service was excellent (we even had the owner come and suggest some dishes and talk to us) and so I would have to say that it was just ideal! I am considering renting it out for my 30th birthday soon because the space is great, the food is unbeatable and the service was excellent, friendly and very unique experience all in all! 5 stars in my book. I thought DROM was pretty impressive just based on the event that I attended here. It was one of the QUE BAJO? parties, Uproot Andy and GEKO JONES, Djing. I had a great time with a great crowd of people that liked to dance. I got there around midnight on the friday and left around 3:35 or 3:40 it was just starting to clear out. Lots of room on the dancefloor but right after 12, yeah alot of people were feeling the dancefloor. Not alot of room for most folks until later. There were some very cute colombian women here, very impressive. All shapes and sizes to dance with, haha. I will definitely be back here for one of the QUE BAJO? parties. Location is not that hard to get to, 85 Avenue A. Drinks here were pretty pricey so I pre-gamed somewhere else. I think it was $7 just for a Bud lite bottle. Came here for the kiosk concert with my family and some family friends in a group of 9, my father made a reservation in advance so we were sitting by the stage. When we arrived we were asked if anyone in our group was underage, and my dad told them that my sister is but he called in advance and they said it was okay because it's an early show. The bouncer said he had to check and came back with a lady who gave us a pretty hard time, and said that "it doesn't matter, whoever you talked to was wrong" but eventually she let us in because we had a reservation but was very unhappy about it. She said multiple times that "this is against the rules" as we walked to our table, and I noticed that there was a table next to ours that had at least 3 underage children there. Then when we sat she looked at my dad and said "please don't let her drink" and pointed at my sister. I completely understand that this is her job, however it was completely out of line to speak to us that way, and make my sister so uncomfortable when we came here as a family for a concert, and we had already established our situation. Anyway the music was great but everything else was mediocre. The cheese cigars were overly salty, the calamari tasted like it was microwaved and the tartar sauce tasted old, the fries were good. Cool Turkish lounge in the East Village. A bit hidden from the street, you need to descend the stairs to get to the action. Inside is dark and slightly sexy, with couches and tables along the sides. The back room has a fabulous high ceiling, gloriously long bar on the right, and plenty of room for mingling and dancing. If you come here when it is busy, you'll probably have to wait a while to get drink service (they seem a little short-staffed under some circumstances). Unless you encounter my luck and can speak Turkish, and consequently make friends with the Turkish workers. I had enjoyed enough mixed drinks to feel confident busting out my oft-unpracticed second language on Hakan, the GM, who kindly engaged me in conversation. Result? Different live music daily and various DJs and parties. DROM is a very cool place to visit especially if you know who you are going to listen to. The place is pretty big (about 400 capacity) but the layout divided so even when live concert is going on you can step aside to the couches and have a conversation. Drinks are average in price (Jameson $10). Tall ceilings, ok interior design. It gets 4 stars vs 5 because of the sound system which is long overdue for an upgrade. It is not bad, but definitely with the amount if artists playing here often I heard more Han once that the sound is not the best (speaker position, sound station etc). She was very dismissive and told us "we cannot be in here" as she shooed us out of the stage area. As someone who has never been there, I would have appreciated to be spoken in a more helpful and kind way. This spot is a great find. Clean, trendy, you can stand or take a seat in a nice lounge area. You need to check the artist due to the neighborhood you get a variety of performers. From the street level you walk down to the basement level to find an amazing open area. Again due to the area you also do get very different types of people. You are NOT in the West village/Meat packing district so keep in mind there is a BIG difference in the people you will mingle with here. The location is decent, the decor and overall set up is great, bathroom (men's at least) was clean, there's a decent view of the stage from pretty much anywhere you sit or stand. Holy out of place, Batman! The story of how I ended up here is pretty simple; Aaron P. got a singing gig backing up a UK rapper named Jamieson. He continued telling me details, but for all of you that know me, he already had me at "UK." I'm a fan of the east village, and the alphabets in particular because you often run into random places like this. It's both modern and kind of janky inside, sort of like a smaller low-rent version of Joe's Pub (the closest place I can compare it to). To sit down, they give you the "food" or the "2 drink minimum" speech, but our waiter never came back to me after getting my first beer. When we asked him about it, he was like, "I don't even care. They make me say that." He was awesome. Scott B. was my partner in crime for this. If I was out of place, he was from Neptune. Watching Scott try and decipher rap lyrics in his head is the most amusing thing I've seen in a long time. I can say that we sat at the tables in front of the bar, but everyone stands right in front of the stage, so the seating here is a little questionable. If you have the option, the area all the way in the back (stage left, if you prefer) would be ideal to see a show, since people can't stand in your vantage point. Scott got a panini (he hadn't eaten all day guys. Let him be a fatty in peace!) that he said was really good. Drinks here are expensive for the east village, and seeing a show here means there was probably a cover. Jamieson was a perfectly adequate rapper, but opening act Shareen Amour (http://shareenamour.com/) stole the show for me. Drom was the absolute worst service I've ever experienced in New York which is saying something. I went to the Schtick it to the pole show which was great but halfway through the show the waitress told us we needed to order more food because there was a $20 minimum per person and that we should have known because the person who sat us should have told us. We were sat by the manager herself and she did not mention the minimum when we sat down so we truly had no idea and weren't prepared to spend any extra money. The minimum would have been fine as it is pretty standard for this type of show, but it was nowhere on the ticket and they didn't tell us until halfway through the show. At the end of the show they brought a check for $65 and said we had ordered everything on it when we had only ordered one item. Then the manager came over and started screaming in our faces that we needed to pay and that she was calling the cops because we were trying to skip out on the check. She asked to see our IDs which she snatched and started screaming that we were under age after we had showed her our IDs showing that we were of age. She then started screaming that she was going to call the cops because we were underage which doesn't even make sense because even if we were it would be her fault for not checking at the door. We were trying to remain calm and respectful and the staff really ruined the night. Don't come here its not worth it. read more

My husband and I came here on a Friday night in April for a Killing Joke afterparty. The venue was filled with beautiful people dressed like Trent Reznor c. 1989 and the DJs played post-punk and death rock. Admission was $26 for the two of us - not bad, not great. Drinks were free, since my husband knew someone, and they were too strong for me, so they might be great for you. (I'm not much of a drinker anymore.) Making out with your spouse like he's someone you just picked up is encouraged, we got to hang out with dudes from KMFDM and Killing Joke, and they let me use the men's since the line for the women's room was up to a ridiculous 14 people. We went on a Groupon for Pepito Gomez's 2nd show on Sat. Feb. 15. It's a beautiful space and all the tables have a great view of the stage. We were seated by the side wall which works out a little better as it's a little less loud. The sound was great you could hear every instrument and the vocals. It's a great deal. I would've given 5 start but the chicken dinner everyone got as a part of the offer was cold and rather bland. Our neighbors agreed. Just a little more spice/flavoring and serving it warm--would seem to be an easy fix. From the other reviews it seems people agree that some of the meals could use a little TLC. The only other bummer is that salsa music is usually associated with dancing but there's just not enough space for both tables for eating and dancing. I went to this establishment over the weekend for an event. While the event was overall not successful, this establishment didn't help the cause with their pushy waitress. When we arrived, we were told that there was a two drink minimum if we wanted to sit. That was not a problem because no one had dinner and we planned on drinking and eating the night away as we enjoyed the live band. We arrive at 8:30 for a show that was not starting at 10:00. Not even 5 mins after sitting the waitress came back to get our orders. Which we were not ready. Note; the seating section hold about 30 individuals and we were the only four. She came back several times over the next 30mins. There is still only maybe 10 people and our group is still the only group who was sitting in the section. I informed her that he were not ready and that we wanted to wait until 10pm to order food and drinks and that we would be happy to stand until that time, if sitting was a problem. At exactly 10.02pm she returns to the take. As a customer, i don't like to feel like I am being hassled. We are go ahead and ordered drinks and passed on the food because of the interaction that we were having with this waitress. Between all four of the ladies our tab was maybe $100.00, but had she not been pushy it would have been a lot more because we were starving. read more

This is a really nice venue for bands to play and I wish that the band I was there to see, Caravan of Thieves, had been given a better slot. Instead they went on at 8pm and hardly anyone was there. I was a little peeved that there wasn't anywhere to sit and watch the show unless you payed $20 at a table - not that that was difficult when the price of a Heineken is $8 with tip. I can't say anything for the food or drinks, so it would be unfair for me to give less than 3 stars.
