I appreciate the manager, but that's it. They don't give you progress reports on how your child is doing. You the parent, have to do all the work, even though you pay all this money for them to teach your child. Some of the teachers are very rude. They need to take sensitivity training in how to deal with people, especially people with special needs. I don't recommend this place to any parent needing driver's ed for their child. Barbara the test instructor I had on my exam was an absolute gem. She was a great professional person from start to finish and I do not believe my experience today could be topped. My driver score was a 94 and I can finally go get my license. This location is great for driving lessons and driving test. The staff was amazing from start to finish. I haven't written a Yelp review in years. Literal years. But I had to remember my password, log back in, and give one to Drive Smart in Carrollton for such a great experience. When I moved to the area from NYC I knew I had to get my license. I was extremely anxious about driving and hadn't attempted more than a parking lot since I was a teenager. But the instructors were so patient and reassuring and made me feel so at ease that after my first lesson I had the confidence to really practice on my own. The road test practice really prepares you for exactly what to expect, and I was able to pass after just two hours of lessons. The road-test examiner and the staff at the front desk were great as well. This is NOT the place to test at if that's what you're hoping to do. Their "premium" test is NOT worth the money. I turned 20 last weekend and I wasn't able to take the test because I don't have a permit.. what the hell is going on at this place. I couldn't even demand a refund because they kept chewing me out and saying "it was on their website" when I could've just spent less money and waited a bit longer at the DMV to get my license. I highly recommend Drive Smart Driving School. Jose and Rodney really do an awesome job in teaching driving. I believe they sincerely want to see all their students become good drivers and pass the road test. Highlights of my lessons at drive smart: -Since I got the road test package, the instructor even helped navigate the various counters at the DPS (which is really helpful when you are stressed out about the upcoming road test) -had my lessons in a Mercedes -had the same car for the road test before coming to Drive smart, I did try another useless driving school in Irving, which I do not recommend at all due to various reasons that I do not want to get into here because this review is about Drive smart All the good reviews they have are true. My advice to anyone looking for a driving school is don't waste time and money trying out other driving schools. You can't go wrong with drive smart. I'm disgusted. I spent around $300 for their summer school course. The instructor (Mr. Vu) was amazing, but when I went to take the test everything went down hill. The employees made new rules that were NOT listed on their site, such as how I'm not able to take the test because my permit expired despite the fact that the DMV lets me do so because I'm 18. Now they're charging me $25 when THEY didn't list this information on their website. Furthermore their customer service is terrible and aren't helpful in any way. My daughter did her road test here 3 years ago and it was great. I took my son there today and had a completely different experience. So I am a teacher and as you can image getting a sub these days is almost impossible. So I booked the 4:20pm slot. Which I can just barely do. We get there on time and they starting going through my docs. Turns out I'm missing one, the D 94. I showed them my receipt for it, and the email saying I completed the class and the D94 was emailed to me, but before I could find the email with the doc, they said it was too late and they would not road test him, this was at 4:27. Seven mins, they allow only 5m for documentation. I've gone too far over. No road test. They Manager says they have a schedule to keep and he could not ask his employee to stay late. Bottom line, she was done and wanted to go home, and had no empathy. Will be requesting a refund and going somewhere else, I suggest you do the same. read more

I called this school and the instructor who answered was so nice that I decided to enroll my child. My child took an online instructor-led driving course to get a permit and only needed the in-car instruction in order to meet DPS requirements for the seven hours behind-the-wheel and observation hours. When I visited the location and enrolled my child, I should have taken a clue when the person at the desk was distracted and talking to other office workers while signing us up and I had to keep repeating myself because he would turn away to type on the computer, sign certificates, etc. In my mind, I brushed it off and thought as long as the instructors were good, that's all that matters. I signed up for three classes (3 hours) to see how the school would teach, and told them I would sign up for the next three on our third visit. The first day we showed no one was there and the office was locked. After calling for an hour and almost going all the way back home, someone showed up and after I showed him my paper with the time, I discovered the person at the desk had written the wrong time. No apologies nothing and he almost acted as if it were my fault. One day we had to reschedule a class to come on another day/time, and I asked the lady in the office day would I be charged anything extra. She said No. Later in the week, I received a call sating that my child would not be allowed to take the class because it was not paid for. Note: Another time in the office I witnessed a conversation with a disgruntled parent who said her schedule was wrong. I reminded the lady that I was just in the office and was told that there was no charge, she became rude and then when I asked about the remaining classes, she gave the phone to someone else. He kept saying it was left up to me if my child finished the hours because we were parent-taught. I kept explaining to him that my child had taken an online instructor-led course, not parent taught. He started talking louder and at that time I decided not to argue because I was questioning if he may be right. I called DPS and was told that what my child took is not considered parent-taught, but is instructor-led, it is simply online and not in a physical classroom. This school has a problem differentiating between online instructor-led courses and parent-taught courses and their customer service is horrible. I lost 260.00, but decided it wasn't worth the stress to argue with them or send my child back. I found a better school .... Response to Rodney C: Thank you for your response and no it is not a case of mistaken identity. I signed up two children, but chose not to include the other child's complaint about the negative driving instruction from "one" of the drivers since it was not "my" experience. After looking at my receipt from your school, I see that I spent $130 per child = $260 (almost $300). And you are right, DPS requirements are 7 hours, not 6 behind the wheel, so I updated the review to reflect the accurate amounts, however, regardless of that, I agree that the school should try harder to have better customer service skills and learn to speak with customers (who are paying their salary) with respect, which is the "real" issue here. read more

Instructors are so nice and easy to communicate. Worst custom server I have ever seen, she has the worst attitude and the worst communication skills. I really had a hard time to make an appointment. She literally cut my phone off couple times. She told me let me talk to her supervisor first, then no one shows up in the next 25 minutes. After making an appointment, she can't even send me an email to confirm my time schedule. Last Sunday, when I tried to go to the office, it shows "closed today" in Yelp. I wanna make a confirmation to the office, so I made 3 calls to the office. So I didn't go to the office since I need to spend 20 dollars and 20 mins to the office. Their instructors gave me a callback after my scheduled time 5 Minutes starting. They told me that "the office is closed but the instructors still work". For me, how could I know your office is closed but your instructors still work? The customer server and her supervisor told me that they will charge my no show fees, when no one works in the office on Sunday. And I agree with all the comments of Nicola C. This school is amazing. I live in Frisco and decided to take my driving test here because there weren't any available dates in the DPS closeby. They're so professional but at the same time make you feel comfortable. I wish I went to the driving school here instead of the one in Frisco. Sam is very rude and not a good instructor. He doesn't teach anything, but expect a new learner to drive like a pro without much guidance. He should develop some teaching skills and also politeness. He has been disappointing me from the first class. I didn't had any option as other good instructors like Destin are busy and the driving school itself is fully busy and slot availability was less. I was kind of forced to learn with this Sam guy. The way he behaved on my first day and the discouragement he gave really made me upset and made me cry the whole night as it emotionally effected me. But as it was my necessity to learn driving and I paid for the classes, I took 7-8 classes with them and got the license anyway. I would say that if I had got the license, it's only because of the 2-3 classes I took with Destin. The tips and guidance Destin gave was really helpful. Sam is busy using his cell phone during the in-car lessons and good at yelling. I took few classes with another driving school in the end as I was disappointed with Sam's behavior and they said that I'm driving well. Why should students come to a driving school when they are a pro already, he should realize that and instead give proper instructions rather than just saying turn right turn left. I was not looking for a google map for navigation, I wanted a teacher. Him using cell phone while teaching me was really irritating, but I just had to control. ALL other staffs are very good and the owners too. The school is busy, because they are good. But people like Sam is just enough to spoil your school's name. We, the Students are not asking for free classes. We are paying our hard earned money and Sam should respect it and do some teaching instead of discouraging and emotionally weakening the students. read more

Person conducting the test sat with her for a couple of minutes to explain the process and calm her nerves which helped bring down her anxiety.
