This school is horrible, this school is worse than any public school. This school taught me nothing, you can get a better education at a public school. The teachers are horrible and are always not minding their business when I tell you that these teachers will talk about the students while they are in the room. The teachers are always gossiping about students, I even had a teachers daughter follow me on social media and then the next day I heard the TEACHER talking about my posts that i made outside of school. These teachers do not care about their students. Lindsey Fryar was the worst teacher I've ever had, she told the class about my personal health issues while I wasn't there and not even just my class, EVERY SINGLE CLASS THAT MY FRIENDS WERE IN. If your thinking about enrolling your kids here don't these teachers and staff do not care about you or your children I kid you not I've only had two good teachers after being there for six years I hated going here I would never send my kids here this school ruined my mental health don't make your kids go through the same things so many kids here had to go through. read more

My son started attending Trivium in the 5th grade. Trivium has been an answer this this single moms prayers. My son struggles with ASDHD AUTISM ANXIETY and the teachers from 5th grade on as he is now closing out his 8th grade year well they are amazing. Such caring patient thoughtful teachers. Always giving more of their time and always helping me but answering my messages throughout the school day or after hours in some cases. It saddens me when I read these negative reviews about Trivium because I in the 3years of working with multiple teachers, front staff and counselors have never come across anyone in this school who has treated me or my son with nothing but kindness. read more

Trivium has been one of the best decisions we have made for our family. Our children are thriving and genuinely love to go to school. One of our children receives special services and we have felt like her needs have always been met. My children were both accepted for the 2017-18 school year. Upon learning that, I contacted the school to gather more information in order to make an informed decision. Their website doesn't have current information, so contacting the school directly was the only option. They answered the phone but said because I had multiple questions it was best I sent an email, which I did. They refused to answer the majority of my questions, and instead told me all the answers could be found on their FAQ page, which is not accurate. I wanted to know 1. What is the average years experience of the Kinder and First Grade teachers? 2. What sports and clubs are offered now? 3. How many students left after they were enrolled? 4. How many fac/staff left after they were hired? 5. What is the demography of the student body? All basic questions, but none were acknowledged. I asked to speak to current parents and tour the school, and that request was also denied. I was forwarded the parent presentation from their information session, but it had no current information or answers to my questions. Also incredibly frustrating. I have been asking around in my neighborhood for any information on Trivium since the school will not respond. It has been disappointing to hear numerous families have removed their kids from Trivium and reenrolled in the local public schools. The complaints range from dissatisfaction with administration, faculty and staff, lack of organization and the inability to communicate with families regarding school matters. With no statistics on Trivium, I have nothing to prove they can provide a superior education compared to our local elementary school. Until Trivium has information they can provide and welcomes involved parents and observation, I'm not comfortable sending my children here. read more

I am the son of a retired educator who is keenly aware of the challenges and possibilities that exist in educating the whole child. We were thrilled to learn of the educational paradigm of Trivium, and our excitement for the experienced has only been exceeded by the implementation we have witnessed through the eyes of our son. The hiring of experienced educators and the utilization of diverse techniques and strategies to meet every child where they are and position them to thrive has been a joy to watch. We are zoned for a public school that has a lot of mixed reviews which we took in a count for before making our final decision on Trivium. I am so glad we made the right decision! My daughter wakes up every day excited about school and she has blossomed into a soon-to- be 2nd grader! She has progressed so much in her studies and is also very proud of her accomplishments. She comes home wanting to tell us and show us what she learned! Yes summer break is coming up, but this kid will miss her school for those couple of months. My nieces attend this incredible academy. It has completely changed their feelings of school and they actually cry when it was Christmas break because they would miss seeing their teachers! Have you ever heard such a thing! As a person who struggled with dyslexia while I was young I was sadden to know one of my nieces was diagnosed too. After seeing and learning about the care and advanced technologies used at Trivium to teach children with dyslexia I was beaming and excited for the future. Trivium is an answer to prayer for us! We are zoned for the two lowest performing and run schools in Fisd and I know this based on schools and experiences with our foster kiddos at those schools. Fisd expects kids to fit into a box and only focus on testing...Trivium takes it back and actually teaches instead of teaching to just a test much like we learned in school. My kid is getting hands on daily and is so engaged he comes home exhausted and he's a kid full of energy usually! His teacher is easy to reach via email and responds quickly! She came from a well known private school and she is amazing! My son has an enthusiasm for learning like no other and has gained so much knowledge this year and half the time he doesn't even realize he's learning as to him it is fun! The admin team and teachers work many long hours outside of the school day. They have been up at school on many breaks and often late at night just to make sure things run smoothly. They work hard and are very involved! They know every kid by first name and most the first and last name! I had taken the time to encourage and get to know my admin team that my son was under so when I did have an issue it was addressed immediately! The three ladies that started Trivium had an amazing vision and have worked their tails off to make it come true! I have never experienced an admin team as readily available and hands on like this one! To top it off, their carpool drop off and pick up is the safest procedure I have ever experienced! I have done pick up and drop off and two Fisd schools and I have seen kids almost get hit, erratic driving, and unsafe practices. Not here! This team has worked hard to make the carpool run smoothly and to make sure kids safety is number one! If you need a school with hands on outside of the box thinking where your child isn't sitting in a desk all day...this is the place to be! My son will be here all 12 years! 1 star is the lowest Yelp will allow me to give. I used to love this school. Felt like they actually cared about my children and their education. But when the school hit issues in obtaining a permanent locations they kept families out of the communication loop. Then the school flooded. So, they were forced to find a "last minute" location. Due to distance (7 min.. NOW 30+) they wouldn't allow older children to do virtual learning. they had ZERO issues in unrolling my 504 child. For a school to be so adamant about their learning disabilities program they give ZERO cares about giving our kids a fighting chance. anyone knows that schools like trivium are lottery! We have to have time to apply, deadlines, etc. BUT THEY HAVE GIVEN PARENTS ZERO CHANCE TO DO THIS FOR THE KIDS THAT HAVE ISSUES! Instead. I am now forced to enroll my child in public school because we're past all deadlines to apply. What now happens to the children that get to be thrown back in with general classrooms that don't get the same type of assistance?! who cares, right? then I have my first grader who basically couldn't be handled by his teacher. So the best option for "the child" was to send him home for virtual learning. let's send home a bored child that can't read anything in class but reads the exact same words at home perfectly fine?! Then had the PE coach pull my 7th grader aside in HER class to tell her she needs to help her little brother?!? Because he has been on the same words for 3 weeks. AMAZING!!!!!! read more

Trivium has been so good to our family. My children are in a school where they are know and loved, not just a number. The school focuses on teaching them to be good citizens and kind friends along with academic excellence. Covid has disrupted the community feel a small school offers, but I'm happy to say we're starting to get back there. Our family has been very impressed with Trivium after homeschooling and attending a classical hybrid academy. This school opened it's doors with zero funding and staff who signed on willingly to teach counter to our current public education philosophy. It's a neo-classical style. Mixes the best of classical with the benefits of neuroscience and modern research. They teachers have seen what happens when you squash the love of learning in children. They have created a school where children are taught *how* to learn so they will be life-long learners and not memorizers of information in order to achieve a school score. They benchmark the children periodically through the year and assess progress based on individual growth. Children are encouraged to move, to sit where they work best, to take personal responsibility for their work, and to research what interests them in Genius Hour. The day starts a bit later and there is no homework. They have a twice daily recess scheduled plus specials, which includes Spanish for all grades. Trivium has plans to add a grade each year until they reach 12th. I love having all of my children on one campus, where they still interact with, and help each, other away from home. One of the things that has kept me from my local public school, aside from teaching a test and a massive bureaucracy, is that I have never felt like a number at Trivium. The staff all knows my children and our family. Cons: Daily drive. It's a commitment. Just some examples of the amazing things they do : In studying biographies, memoirs and autobiographies, one grade went to the local senior center to interview the residents. The older grades periodically teach lessons to the younger grades, which fosters subject retention and mastery. In one grade, a student stated that it would be nice to have a soccer goal. So, they built one out of PVC pipe as a Genius Hour project. It was beautiful to see that "yes" turn into pride at accomplishing a goal. (No pun intended) Update: Third year here and we still have zero complaints about Trivium Academy. This is an amazing school. Common sense is applied liberally and children are encouraged to be responsible for their learning. It's amazing to see the oldest class being to grown into young adults and leaders in their own right. read more

I can't express fully what Trivium means to my family and what a difference they have made in my child's life! There is NOTHING more heartbreaking than your child coming home from school saying they are "stupid". Nothing. In the public school we were zoned to, my daughter was known to have significant signs of dyslexia and could not read well into the second semester of 1st grade because of her disability. I pleaded with her teacher and administrators to preform the required testing to get her the help she needed to progress. They began the testing BUT did not complete that testing because of age(?). Her work came home COVERED in red ink, every assignment was "WRONG". She was just another paper to grade in her teachers eyes and next year she'd be someone else's problem. My heart broke and my child had ZERO confidence in herself or her abilities. She felt "stupid". That's when I was introduced to Trivium Academy and our world changed. The teachers and admin team welcomed us as family. They took her struggles to heart and promptly began an action plan to not only catch her up to where she needs to be academically, but restore her confidence in herself and passion for learning. She is excited to go to school, now! She is making INCREDIBLE strides in her academics and best of all... she continually tells me that she knows she CAN do it. That she is SMART and ready to learn more. Does she still struggle at times, of course... she has a learning disability! But when she brought home a spelling test where she missed 9/10 problems.... I was taken back by the enormous heart of her teacher (Ms Sipes) who proudly wrote +1 with a smiley face at the top of her paper. She highlighted the positive and because of her and the incredible educators at Trivium Academy, my child now has belief in herself. It's not just about teaching the text books at Trivium (which they are also so AMAZING at), it's about teaching a love of learning and a true confidence in the children's spirit and abilities. We are so grateful for Trivium Academy and highly, HIGHLY recommend this amazing community of educators! I now have two daughters attending, both are THRIVING and we could not be more happy! My boys just finished 8th grade. The past two years have been real rough. Though their elementary school seemed to be strong, the middle and high school are not. The staff has been very disappointing, with very poor teacher hires. There were teachers that left mid year, administration had to fill in. This was a major conflict of interest. The VP took over an English class and according to the students, she was late everyday. In my opinion they are not prepared to have a middle school or high school. They are VERY unprofessional, very hard to work with and bully the students that they don't care for. If you were a favorite you were gold, if you weren't they were trying to figure out how to remove you from the school. The school opened 4 years ago with a motto of "if the kids can't learn the way we teach, we will teach the way they learn". This motto changed sometime in the past couple of years. And this philosophy is far from true now. Once the kids enter middle school, they are expected to be in the box of perfection and if they aren't they are treated as if they are inadequate. My son has ADHD and is professionally diagnosed on the autism spectrum. He had teachers tell him he needed to go back a grade and belittle him constantly, the administration has rudely told me he won't pass and expected me to figure out how to fix him. How is this teaching the way he learns? Middle school at Trivium was a huge let down and I wish I had pulled both of my boys after 6th grade. We have had several friends leave because of issues with both the teachers and the administration. Teachers have chosen to leave because of the administration as well. It is a real problem. I would advise you talking to as many of the middle school parents as you can before sending your kids into middle school or high school at Trivium because I was not the only one with issues. More parents than not had issues. It was a constant struggle. The administration is extremely hard to communicate with. Often, I would have to send 3 emails to multiple people to get a single question answered or they would just never answer at all. From what I understand, well more than 1/2 of the 8th grade class is leaving the school this year. My son left the school mid- January over some referrals that I never saw and never signed off on. I was told by the administration that he had received them. I was told by peers in education that how they handled this was unprofessional and questionably illegal. And to say these referrals were exaggerated would be an understatement. Tripping over a backpack and stepping on someone's foot was turned into "harming another student". After he left the school I was approached by several past employees and parents of Trivium letting me know that they had been trying to remove him from the school for a couple of years. I heard stories of the administration making fun of kids and parents. Unbelievable stories. Heartbreaking to think that a school that prides themselves on being a community actually on excepts certain types that fit in their box and make fun of those that don't. However, all of this ended up being a huge blessing in disguise, as he was thriving at his new school. There were teachers that were willing to work with him one on one, administration that cared and were happy to have him there and he finished the semester with a 92 gpa. Trivium Academy ended up being a huge, huge, huge disappointment. Both of my boys were happy to move on. School ended last week and today we picked up yearbooks. I was saddened to see that my son was removed from the yearbook while others that left the school throughout the year were still listed with pictures. For administration, actual adults, to speak against bullying and to treat by son as horribly as they did is absolutely astonishing and quite disgusting. read more

I wanted to wait until my son completed an entire year at Trivium before I posted a review. Today is the last day of school- one year complete-So here goes. Totally transparent, good and bad: My son, who is academically advanced in various subjects, went to an extremely reputed elementary school from k-4th grade. It was when his 4th grade teacher at the public school got angry at my son and even my husband and I because my son "asked too many questions" or "never gave the RIGHT answer" to subjective questions, that I knew he needed something more. He needed something where teachers understood that some kids naturally think outside the box and strive for more than worksheet work all day. Around that time I heard about the new charter school that was opening up soon- Trivium. I knew that I had to find out about this new, presumably, exciting school that seemed perfect for my "gifted" child. I researched for months and probably drove the Cawthons to their wits end, scheduled conference calls and asking random questions that only an over protective mom would even think of asking. We have long email chains back and forth, we went to parent meetings, and I even pulled all of the public records for the Trivium charter with the state. No stone was left unturned. I recall one phone conversation with Chrissy Cawthon wherein I questioned her point by point about the charter application. She was so patient and so understanding. She knew exactly where I was coming from. We took the plunge and our son started at Trivium this past August. It was scary. Very scary! The first semester of school, there were days that we contemplated a move back to public school. Why? 1. He NEVER had homework! 2. He NEVER brought home grades & worksheets! 3. We were never up until 1 am finishing up projects! We wondered if the kids learned anything at all at school!!! But then we started listening to what our son was saying at home. "Mom, today I learned about what calculus is, and how to apply general calculus techniques in the real world!" my 5th grader explained the ins and outs of rise over run to me. "Mom! We did science experiments all week. We did different experiments but we learned the same thing." Why is this important to me as a parent? Because in 4th grade my child's teacher was mad at him because he couldn't understand scientific principals based on HER view of science. And this year, his teacher taught him EVERY VIEW so that he got a 360 degree lesson rather than a one sided, very directed study. The discussions we have at home are on a completely different level than we ever expected. His teacher taught him to think about what he learned all year with the intention of seeing what he learned play out in life. School isn't about memorizing things so you can pass tests, school is about learning to live, and learning to grow. Trivium Academy is the embodiment of this principal of learning- and we could not be happier that we took this plunge. I could go on and on about how happy we are with the Trivium model of learning. I did see where this is a new school: 1. I don't know that there are many, if any, elective courses in middle school yet; 2. I'm not quite used to relying on one email a week from the teachers to understand what my child is working on in school. I'm still wanting to see graded papers- but I know the absence of this type of thing is what contributes to the success of this school. This school is off to a great start, with a few tweaks here and there, it certainly is on track to be one of the higher ranking institution in the state very soon. read more

I was enrolled there, and I'm not being bias, it's a terrible school. A lot of kids leave and almost all faculty leave. Which leaves the remaining students jumping from teacher to teacher. I have three daughters who are in 4th, 1st and kindergarten. They have attended both private and public schools in Frisco (Fisher Elementary) and in Prosper (Cockrell Elementary) and my oldest went to a private school for two years. Before considering Trivium, we researched the Montessori model and learned that our girls could benefit and grow in this environment. The school is very open about their no homework policy so for us this was a huge benefit. We actually have time to enjoy our family and not stress or fight about homework. The funny thing that happened when the school stress went away for my girls, they picked up books and started reading bc they WANTED to not because it was homework. They work on genius hour projects at home NOT bc their "due" but because they think it's fun. Learning is FUN at Trivium and they ARE learning. One example is that my first grader is given a list of spelling words and then she has to come up with two words she'd like to learn how to spell & use in a sentence. Recently she went from choosing 4-5 letter words to words like: amphibian, gymnastics, and harmonica. First grade! My 4th grader is blowing through a book a week and prior to this I had to force her to read. My kindergartener was very shy coming in but has blossomed into a social butterfly which has helped so much with her self-confidence. I'm by no means "bragging" about my kids bc this was NOT me. It is the environment this school has created for my kids. Now, are there problems, maybe. Which school doesn't have them? Even private school has them and at they had already cashed my check so they didn't really care about my concerns. Same with public school. My kid was just a number there. Every time I have had an issue with a teacher or administration at Trivium, my issue was heard and resolved. This was not my experience at other schools. My concerns at Trivium have been more isolated incidents and were not complaints about the school/teaching model. I knew what the model was BEFORE we applied. Finally, this school model is not for everyone but I'm so thankful to live in an area where we have options. Trivium has been a blessing to our us. Great teachers, great administration, great staff. We've not been disappointed with our first year at Trivium. We have had zero issues and cannot wait for when our younger child is old enough to attend. We feel blessed to be part of such an amazing school that was founded by teachers who have such a clear vision of where they want the school to go. My child just finished kindergarten at Trivium Academy and we could not be more happy with our experience. A unique educational environment that truly educates the whole student. I think it's best described as an active classroom. Kids do not sit in desks all day. Even starting in kindergarten kids rotate to "specials" each day of the week a different class of Art, Spanish, Music, Theater, PE and of course library time. Add to that 2 recesses and you have an environment where kids love to learn. The teachers are experienced and effective educators and truly get to know each child and what makes him/her tick. The parent/teacher communication is exceptional. I am so glad we found Trivium and look forward to the years to come! read more

This school does have some good teachers, some good after school programs as well as some good programs like genius hour. Unfortunately if they decide you or your child is not important enough for their time, they will go to any extent to ignore you. No matter the issue or it's importance, whether it be medical or academic, the principal and teachers will not return repeated phone calls or emails. Terrible communication. We attended a wonderful LISD school with faculty/staff that loved our children. I attended an information session with a friend and ended up loving Trivium Academy's vision. My first and fourth grader are discovering to learn for the love of learning. They are no longer gathering facts needed to do well but are enjoying the journey into topics that are fascinating to them. Trivium promotes imagination and creativity throughout the lessons and projects to engage these kids fully. I love that my fourth grader will recite a poem for memory next week (it is the last week of school). I love that my first grader wants to use a circuit board after school to learn about electricity. I cannot begin to adequately describe what a blessing this school has been for us! We have a son in 4th grade that moved there after having a miserable experience in a top rated elementary in high performing FISD. What works for one child does not work for all children and it certainly did not work for ours. It was obvious that having learning differences made him a thorn in their side. He did not fit the mold. He could NOT excel the way he was being taught. In spite of being a very proactive parent working with his teachers, administrators, taking him to tens of thousands of dollars of tutoring... he was frustrated, exhausted, stressed out and unable to 'get it' without extensive outside help. This year has been a breath of fresh air. It's obvious to my family how much the school cares about him - and not just his academics! They teach things very differently. They take the time to notice how kids learn. They back off the pressure. What's happened? My child loves school again. He is able to absorb the material. He is learning to think for himself. He is growing academically and personally. It's a pleasure to watch! It was scary making a move from what we knew and what was close to our home, but it has paid off to see the growth in our child. read more
