I could literally write a book about the wonderful Mrs. Ortega; and the Medical Coding Academy Crew, but that's for another day. Whatever it was that brought you here today; please continue reading. You are here for a reason, just like I was, and it was not "by chance." I was the one who had enrolled in a 12 month, expensive on-line training to get Certified as a Medical Coder and Biller. I was the one who was only 2 months in, out of the 12 months I was given, I was the one who had to complete and pass 680 course hours before even taking an Exam, I was the one who was already completely lost, and "I" was the one, solely assigned, in teaching myself. I was filled with so many questions. I had a four year College Degree, Masters, and a PhD. Why was I having to take all of these courses? Maybe there was some sort of mix-up? What Exam was I suppose to take? There were a lot of Exams to choose from! What in the world had I done? What in the world had I gotten myself into? OMG... I was totally lost and extremely frustrated so I turned to YouTube; hoping to find some "clarity!" My very 1st search result landed me on, "Medical Coding Academy" and right to the awesome Mrs. Ortega :) I started by looking here and little over there... and I have to admit. I was the "textbook" non-believer. The one that laughed while thinking, "There is no possible way this lady can do what she claims, she has to be nuts!" After all, I paid big bucks, to be totally confused 2 months in; and she's claiming she only needed 3 consecutive days of my time and I'd be prepared to pass "one" of these Exams... come on! "Ha, Ha, Ha." Then, her comments caught my eye. I decided to just read one. Well, one turned into another, and I ended up reading them all. Every single comment had the same tone and message. Very positive, thanking Mrs. Ortega over and over, how she had changed lives... But most importantly; how she prepared them to pass an Exam they had already failed "numerous" times. So, I decided to watch just one of her videos ~ "just one" ~ and ended up watching them all. I really liked this lady. She had this Halo of witt, kindness, and generosity that surrounded her. "WOW" ~ I was impressed and knew right away she was always on top of her game and she knew her stuff every which way! One of her videos even explained the entire Exam process and which Exam stood for which degree. God Love Her! I had "direction." I posted a comment just to let her know that I enjoyed watching her videos and reading her comments. I briefly explained why I was even on YouTube in the 1st place; and wished her well in all of her endeavors. Low and behold; Mrs. Ortega responded to my comment. She was fully aware that I was already financially committed, and enrolled in a 12 month on-line program. But "I" was that important to "her" and she reached out to me. She wanted to make sure that all of my questions were answered and if not; she would be happy to help. Now that is true professionalism! To make a long story short... LOL I signed up for her 3 Day Course, drove from St. Louis to Dallas, took her 3 Day Course, and then the Exam. I'm currently, waiting patiently, for my Exam results to be posted. "WOW" she was spectacular! Her teaching style is impeccable, she is so compassionate, giving 110% of her time preparing "her students" for this rigorous 5 hour and 40 minute Exam, and let me tell you... She did not waist one second of our precious time together the entire 3 days! She was beyond prepared! Words cannot explain what Mrs. Ortega is capable of because Mrs. Ortega is truly, "One of a Kind!" So, to all you non-believers out there; I have one thing to say, "Never say never!" I don't even know where to start! I could talk Mrs. Ortega and this company for days! However, I will do my upmost to help you to understand the impact that Mrs. Ortega has made on my life, and my classmates lives during my CPC course this weekend. I have just arrived back home from my trip to Charleston, SC and even though it is 1am, I could not go to sleep until I wrote this review in an effort to URGE anyone interested to sign up for one of her classes and do it ASAP! Like many of you, I came across her YouTube videos while searching for info about Medical Coding. Little did I know about how that would later turn out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made! I watched one video and thought "Hmmm, she seems nice, I think I'll watch another one". With each passing video, I became more and more convinced that "Wow, its hard to accept the fact that there are actually people like her in this world that are THAT genuine, who care THAT much about helping others, who tirelessly put their heart and soul into educating others so that they are afforded an opportunity to change their life! Trust me when I say, BELIEVE IT! Now, you may be thinking that this sounds a little overkill with the nicey nice stuff. Well, all I can say is that if you take a leap of faith and give yourself the gift of attending one of her classes you will leave there wanting to thank anyone who had any part of convincing you to JUST JUMP FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Don't be fooled by other organizations who lead you to believe that you can't learn what it takes to be successful at passing your board exam AND landing your dream job with a 3 day education! Mrs. Ortega has proven this over and over and over again. Keep in mind that for every day you hesitate because you're skeptical, thats another day you've missed to land your dream job as an EXTREMELY WELL PAID and respected medical coder! Her conviction to teaching and changing lives is 2nd to none! She teaches you INVALUABLE tips for passing the exam and interviewing for the job! She also painstakinly came up with a strategy for not only test taking, but more importantly, helping to familiarize yourself with all of your books and how to use them to properly code. Her tabbing system is something that will blow your mind! Please don't let the little voice in your head convince you that this is too good to be true! It is absolutely NOT A SCAM! It's a GRAND SLAM! I will advocate for this company and Mrs. Ortega in an effort to pay it forward for as long as it takes to convince the doubters out there to trust her and her ability. What you see on her videos is what you get! She is extremely down to earth and very approachable and eager to help you with any questions or issues you may have. She is a POWERHOUSE of a woman in a vey small package but dont mistake that for weakness. She has put YEARS into developing this very unique learning structure in which she is, with good reason, extremely proud of. She expects her students to listen, learm, and apply everything she teaches. You need to come to class prepared to learn and follow all her instructions to a T! It is not and easy course but she doesnt have unsuccessful students. She simply won't allow it! If you put forth the effort and feel as though you are just not quite clear, there is no end to the lengths she will go to in order insure your success. If this is something you really want, be assured she wants it for you even more! I feel as though wriiting this review is the VERY LEAST that I can do to repay her for giving me the skills to change my life for the better! All I can leave you with is this...if you are working at a job that doesn't pay your nealy enough and you're struggling to make ends meet...do yourself the biggest favor and pick up the phone right now and register for the earliest class you can attend. had been looking into medical coding for the last year. I had narrowed the decision down to online courses with either the AAPC or AHIMA. Soon after I became even more indecisive after researching both organizations due to mixed reviews. Then in March I came across one of Ms. Ortega's YouTube videos. After watching the first video, she had me hook, line and sinker!!!! This woman is truly a God Send!! Like everyone now reading these reviews, I thought this is crazy amazing!! OMG this is just too good to be true! How am going to become this Go To medical coder in only three days??? Please believe me when I say, it is truly possible. This is the real deal! During the months following up to the three day course, I had watched all of Ms. Ortega's videos....more than once...and took notes. The course only costs $1280 and MCA works with you in regards to a payment plan. After registering for the CPC course, MCA mails their students pre-work. The pre-work will take roughly 20 to 25 hours to complete and it is truly essential when taking the course. I attended the course in Dallas, TX at the end of July. We had about 95 students attending the class. One student had even flown all the way from Hawaii just to attend! I'm not going to lie, the course is intense but you will learn a vast amount of information in only three days. Ms. Ortega and her MCA staff are truly amazing!!!!!!!!! She is an explosive powerhouse of coding knowledge and breaks everything down for you by having you work from the ground up. I can not stress enough how important it is to complete both the pre-work and homework. The completion of this work can either make you or break you on the board exam. Ms. Ortega also gives you interviewing tips along with helpful real world practice scenarios that will benefit you after you pass the exam. Now with the Dallas course, students are given an option of taking the board exam on the fourth day. I was one of those students who chose to take the exam on the fourth day. Unfortunately I did not pass the first time. It had absolutely nothing to do with Ms. Ortega and her classroom instruction. From what I've heard many students pass on the first try. Unfortunately I was not one of those students. I felt pretty good coming out of the exam room and thought I had at least passed with a 70 but to my dismay I missed it by three points. Three points!!!! You know what though....It's okay. AAPC offers one free retake!!! Thank you God!! After I found out the horrible news, I texted Ms. Ortega. She was extremely understanding and suggested I retake the exam within the month. For the next three weeks, I studied at least one hour everyday. I took the retake exam and a week later found out I PASSED!!!!!!! I'm still elated from the news and can't wait to continue on with my medical coding career!! So in conclusion if you feel beyond confident with taking the board exam on the fourth day then I say go for it but if you're someone who may need more time to study, I would suggest delaying the exam for a couple of weeks. I originally was VERY hesitant to sign up for any online course when you hear about all the scams out there. I signed up for a course at a local school that would have taken 9 months to complete to then be prepared to take the CPC. I never researched any online courses out of fear. I then was really feeling like I was wasting time waiting for my classes to begin and started researching more. I found Medical Coding Academy and the rest is history! I requested a refund back from the school I enrolled in right away. Belen was so amazing to help me navigate signing up and answering all of my skeptical questions. I am proud to say that 3.5 weeks after starting my online courses I passed my CPC exam with an 83%! Listen, nothing worthwhile is easy. The program is not designed to rush through it etc. I was only able to finish so much coursework so fast because I studied full time at least 8 hours a day. I am currently out of work and was able to dedicate my every moment into this. Mrs. Ortega tells you exactly what you need to do. Follow her instructions. Another tip is to pause the video and work out the case prior to her going through it. Then see if you got the correct answer. This took exponentially longer but sure paid off in the long run. It is challenging but she explains it so well and in detail. It will feel overwhelming in the beginning but it all comes full circle just keep pushing. I also recorded myself reading my notes as well as flash cards. I would go walking and have them playing to help me study on the go. You will have to work but she gives you every tool you need. If you want to pass your test and understand guidelines etc then take this course. I am excited for my future and to see where this takes me! After being disabled all throughout my 20's and then suddenly having no choice but to get back into the workforce as a single mother in my early 30's, I felt totally overwhelmed by my direction in life. With a lot of personal medical experience under my belt, I decided that a medical admin career would be ideal. So, I enrolled in an expensive online college to get a certificate in medical coding and billing. Cut to a few weeks into my first semester when I stumbled upon Mrs. Ortega's YouTube videos... I watched one, then another, then another. I just loved her energy so much. Her story and path to creating MCA really spoke to me. Within 3 months I went from stay at home mom to working as a medical coderwith 3 certifications (CPC, COC, and CPMA) that i passed on the first exam try. I would have never been able to do that with out Mrs. Ortega and all the lovely people at Medical Codng Acadmey! I took the 3 day CPC course in Dallas on Septemeber 29th - October 1st with my exam the next day on October 2nd. This course was difficult at first only because it didnt make sense but by day 3, as promised by Mrs. Ortega, it all made perfect sense. I was nervous about taking the exam the very next day but im so glad i did because everything was still so fresh. Mrs. Ortega is a wonderful job making her I was prepared for this test. Yes, even in just 3 days. I even finished this 5hr and 40 min test with 30 minutes to spare! The next week I got my exam results and I passed! This gave me so much confidence. I was so excited and so impressed with Mrs. Ortega that signed up for another weekend of exam prep and learning with her for the COC and CPMA credentials. Each class was one day. I took them back to back on November 27th and 28th. I was just as comfortable as i had been walking out of there before. I took my COC exam a week later and my CPMA exam the week after that. And guess what? I passed both of those on the first try also!!! I applied for a job in November doing risk adjustment coding on accident. But i got the job before i even took the COC and CPMA exam! I do not have the CRC credential yet but can you guess where im going to go to prepare for it? Yup. Medical Coding Academy! WOW!! I have never met such a knowledgeable, passionate teacher who truly cares for her students. Don't let her size and soft spoken, sweet demeanor fool you. Mrs. Ortega is a God fearing barracuda. This lady knows her stuff and has a wealth of knowledge. She has poured every fiber of her being into this program, and it's evident. She's determined to see you succeed. If you are interested in becoming a professional coder and advancing your career, this is the right time to jump on board. Please don't have a P.O.O.R. I signed up for a Medical Coding and Billing diploma program online and breezed right through the coursework. I found myself frustrated because I was completing courses that I have already completed in high school and college such as Microsoft Office, English, Phone etiquette, etc... After 4 months of coursework, I still have not started learning anything about medical coding. One day as I was researching medical coding training, I came across some Youtube videos by Mrs. Ortega and was immediately intrigued. Although I did not reach out to her immediately, I compared her training to other programs. I found that her training offered the best quality and quickest way for me to prepare for the CPC exam. I attended Mrs. Ortega's 3 day CPC training class in December. I took the Exam the following Monday and PASSED!! Mrs. Ortega is the best teacher/instructor/trainer that I ever had for any class. I'd like to just start by saying for me, MCA is the place to go to become a Go-To-Coder. I was first told about Mrs. Ortega's class a little over a year ago by a good friend and then co-worker and kind of brushed it off as not something I could or would do. As I did a little more research and read the reviews I told myself I'd give it a shot but didn't do much to actually be able to attend. Fast forward to the beginning of this year when I finally made a plan to attempt to sign up. Some obstacles came about that should have derailed my plans but thank God they did not succeed! I was able to procure the means to attend the class, took a leap of faith, and instead of my having to wait until the end of the year I was able to take the July course that just passed. I was told by the friend who referred me that the class is intense but it is well worth it. That was an understatement. If you've ever had to cram for any type of exam then that's what you can expect in taking Mrs. Ortega's class TIMES TEN! But let me just say it is WELL worth it! I firmly believe that anything worth having will require much effort and dedication. I would suggest going in with am open mind, do EVERYTHING instructed by the academy from watching her videos,  doing the pre-course work, to following everything she instructs within the course. Do not be deterred by having to put in a little more effort or even money than you may think it should take because it is an investment in your future.  There should be no price to invest in oneself and that rang true for me. She did just what she said would do in teaching the foundations to prepare for the exam and I can tell you first hand I passed...ON MY FIRST TRY! Greetings to Everyone! My name is Gina and I found Mrs. Ortega online in late 2016 and was very skeptical about learning Medical Coding in 3 Days. So I called two of my relatives and they strongly suggested that I go to school cause no one can learn coding in 3 Days. So, I attended my local University here in Clayton county GA for 10 months. (February-November 2017) In August I knew I was NOT adequately prepared to sit for the AAPC EXAM under the so called teaching from the instructor. The whole class became VERY FRUSTRATED!!! One gentleman dropped out in the very beginning and two young ladies dropped out in August. I'm not a quitter so I stuck out and finished the course and at the same time reached out to Mrs. Ortega. I ordered her package and received it promptly. I did my pre-work (sidebar- PLEASE FINISH YOUR PREWORK BEFORE YOU GO TO HER CLASS) this help you so much cause you will have homework in class. OMG! I'm running out of room for this post. Needless to say I PASSED my EXAM with a score of 86 ALL do to Mrs. Ortega. Her teaching technique is like NO other. Just Do EXACTLY WHAT SHE TELLS YOU!!! Trust if you do. You will Pass too. Also, Mrs. Ortega is a NO nonsense passionate Instructor! So, if you're NOT serious about learning PLEASE DON'T waste her time. This is from my heart cause she is an ANGEL sent from HEAVEN and I need to learn as much as I can from her and I don't need anyone or anything to ruin that for me. I passed! :) All thanks to your program and excellent teaching! All of your assistants were amazing and everyone was so nice and helpful. I have already referred two of my friends to you and many more are about to follow. I will be singing your praises to anyone who will listen. Thank you so much. I am definitely a skeptic turned in to a believer. I really needed good news this week. I was worried during the test that my mind would get in my way. My grandmother was sick during this time. She passed away on the 12th. I got to see her that morning. She passed away that night. I beat myself up the entire weekend wondering if I was doing the right thing, but my grandmother would have wanted me to go. That is just the type of person she is. She was 90. She had a full life. I made a decision to change career paths in early 2017. I was determined to work in medical coding. I didn't have any money and little time to devote to the month long programs at colleges. I began researching online options to learn about medical coding and how to pass the board exams. THAT'S WHEN I SAW MRS. ORTEGA ON YOUTUBE. After watching several of her youtube videos I knew I wanted her to teach me. It would mean taking out a loan for the class and travel and hotel expenses. I started to panic and called Mrs. Ortega's staff to help me relieve my fears. Mrs. Ortega called me back herself and all of my apprehensions melted away. I got the loan and traveled to Chicago in late August, 2017 for her class. BAM, it is a no nonsense, nose to the grindstone class. I had alot of fun learning and laughing yet working hard. What is a teacher? - "a person who passes on information or skill". Her teaching is spellbinding; trust me I was there taking the CPC class. She offers you so much more --in her presence you feel her love for humanity right away, she wastes no time ---off to learn; and learned you do. Her passion for teaching oozes out of her every pore and her adrenaline will keep you moving with her. I traveled all the way to Maryland from NJ to do so....boy! I have NO REGRETS!!!! Prior to doing so I had just finished what was supposedly a medical coding course here in NJ (What a joke). I IMMEDIATELY saw the difference and COMPLETELY understood the in and out's of proper medical coding. The oohs and aahhhs were screaming deep inside of my being --I left knowing in "only 3 days" -- 3 DAYS folks what NJ failed to do so for me in the 9 months I was in their class. I never took the exam due to unforeseen circumstances and made the mistake of getting in the comfort zone. Once I'm back on my feet I have decided to take the course again with Ms. Ortega and no one else. I don;t know how my search on the internet connected me with Ms.Ortega, if there was a higher being doing so - I'm glad it happened. Don't be a procrastinator like I was! I attended Mrs. Ortega's 3-day CPC course in Dallas, and I must tell you, that was the best decision I have ever made! I was skeptical AND (scared) at first thinking...how was I going to pass the CPC exam by only taking a three-day course, especially considering I had no prior experience or knowledge in that field. But I swallowed extremely hard, and took a chance on it anyway based on the stellar reviews. Let me tell you, I didn't think it was possible, but I've learned so much in three days as a student would in a nine-month or two- year course! She is one of the best teachers out there. She will soak your brain with everything you need to know, and you will be drenched with so much knowledge once it's over, in such a short period! You know the saying don't believe the hype? WELL YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT!!!! Let me tell you, when I was first looking for medical coding courses I ran across Mrs Ortega 3-day course. I will say that I was very skeptical at first I did tons and tons of research of the course. I watched all YouTube videos I read just about every single review and even watch the reviews on YouTube. so then I thought to myself all these people can't be lying lol. So I took that "dive". I took the 3-day course in boy when I tell you it is intense it is but you so freaking much it's crazy. The passion that Mrs Ortega has for you to learn the skill too code, the passion that she has to teach is amazing. I love her so much for what she does and how she does it.
